@@robertelmo7736 it's not the steering wheel bolt, it's below it, it seems to be under or behind the ignition portion, when u grab the wheel, it seems to have a wobble back and forth on top , bottom and both sides, it wasn't suppose to be "wearing", it was suppose to be "wheel"

The nut was the driver. As a 03 cobra owner sometimes a good thing is to park it.

Every foxbody owner needs to go look at those fuel hose locking clips on their engine right now if they don’t realize what they do. I’ve seen couple cars missing them and one of them burned to the ground because of it too

I just fixed my seat bracket last year. It has been broken for 15 years. Just threw a block of wood under it to level it all those years because it was a known problem in these cars. Its never been my daily so was never a big deal. Many times at the drags like that! Haven't been using it for 8 years and since a year and a half ago I've been building it up. New Boss stroker, Finally driving again. Trying to get it broken in so I can put the turbo in. Nitrous before, and was tired of filling bottles. My last fox was a 4 banger with bad sensor to the fan. I was young and wired it to a switch under my seat. Worked great until I left the switch on, came out of the mall and my car was full of smoke. Opened the door to see the wires to the fan switch glowing red! Melted the carpet but caught it before a 🔥. Super lucky. Headlight switch always gets hot also.

🤣🤣 two of the things on the list has happened to me! One when I just got it. Carburetor car fuel filter on top of intake sprayed gas on the distributor and caught fire. A school bus happens to pull up behind me with a fire extinguisher and saved my car. I thank god for her every day for the past 18 years as I still have that car. Then the solenoid thing happened a couple years ago because I didnt have working parking brakes and left it in gear. It drove itself across the parking lot and ran in to the door of my old truck i sold my buddy! I said she missed her garage buddy 😜 this video had me dyin man all such good info for the new fox community 👍

I got my completely stock 88 GT Vert from the original owner back in 2015. Knowing the typical issues I did the fog light relay mod within a month of getting the car. To go along with the comment about the blower motor, about a year an a half ago I put a relay on the blower motor wiring, so that will effectively help the issues with amp draw, but also provides full battery power to the blower which causes it to actually blow faster on each speed. Before the mod you couldn't even feel it when in the low or 1 position, now 1 feels like the number 2 position did before the mod and so forth with Hi being much faster than it was.

First, My headlight switch actually melted the plug on my 89gt. Once i went to led head lights and put my fog lights on its own relay i never had another issue. Also. The night i got my 89gt..the seat broke as i was sitting at a red light on a hill and i fell into the back seat. Lol

This advice rings too close to home. Today I was replacing the quarter panel window motors and guide rod mount in my newly acquired *ALMOST FACTORY!* '88 GT convertible which I both checked out myself and had a thorough PPI done on and found SN 95 seat belts slapped inside and that the window had been replaced with a hand crank at some point from electric, then turned back electric and they left a bunch of the hand crank parts in my way for removal. The best part was when I found their custom mounting plate for the guide rod mount, which made me look closer and realize this car was likely in a small collision passenger side causing likely the exterior and most of the interiors of the quarter panel to be replaced at some point with mix and match parts from any Ford within arms length. This is the best advice out there, and we all make this mistake once from what I gather (except the smart/lucky ones lol)

One thing to add as far as brakes go. Most foxbodys I have owned needed sections or entire steel brake lines replaced due to rust usually at the fittings, but that goes for all old cars. Might just be because of where I live but definitely worth checking into. If it's bad enough you will be able to visually see how thin the brake line is compared to a good section.

+1 on vacuum leaks. I’d take out all my plastic hoses and replace with colored silicone hoses, so you can easily identify the hoses and keep an eye on any cracks or worn hose parts.

Headlight switch is a big problem. My was burnt out when I got my car. I’d also say some of the cheap throttle cable replacements can go bad on you with no warning. Had one collapse on me right after putting it on. Had to limp it home with no throttle lol

The solenoid issue is also due to a bad ground.... I had it to where my car kept trying to start even after the motor was running.... make sure your grounds are clean....

My headlights stopped working and my light switches, including the connector of the multi-function switch, were very crispy. I had to replace everything, and so I added relays to carry the lighting current. Problem solved. Also, I have personally experienced the starter relay problem. Shut off my car and engine started turning over until I removed power from the relay. In another fox body, I have the seat mount and floor plan problems.

I had a mechanic related scare. A shop installed a 255lph fuel pump in my 91 GT and they didn’t seat the fuel filter clip. The fuel line popped off going down the highway. I pulled over not yet sure why my car stalled. I cranked it a few times and then smelled fuel. Thankfully nothing ignited.

I was coming home one night and it was raining I had fog lights and headlights on and next think I know I lost all lights and smelled smoke and pulled over and rip out the headlight switch and it was hot had to ghetto rig it to get the car home and the next day went to pick and put and got new wiring to the switch then got a after market foglight kid and never had the problem again

I spent a good deal of time looking for a classic car to rebuild from Copart. I was shocked at the number of restores classic cars that were totaled from a fire. Would be interesting to see how many of them were put together with crappy rubber hose and a clamp that was over tightened

What about a TFI module that gets too hot? Mine went out on the highway while I was going 70 MPH. The car died instantly including all the electrical. Had to coast off to the side of the highway and wait until it cooled down just to get it home. Ford later moved the TFI module away from the distributor to prevent the overheating.

There's a kit where you can move the module from the distributor to a cooler location on the fender apron.

In my 91' gt , my lumbar plug under the driver seat melted and caught on fire. Luckily, the car was sitting in the driveway and my father and I were working on it. We were able to quickly disconnect the battery and use a fire extinguisher. The lumbar was not being used either. Maybe some dust/dirt got in the plug and messed up the connection or the lumbar switch was partially engaged. Left a decent size hole in the seat foam pad and burned a patch of carpet under the seat.

the starter issue can only happen when you wire the car wrong.... aka aod to t5 swap and leaving the clutch bypass jumper from the aod plugged in. AKA hacks doing shit wrong.

Just another quirk, the big particle board speaker boxes with two 12”s in the rear hatch caused inner rear tire wear on our 91 GT. That was back early 90s when that was our only option to get hard hitting bass though which was mandatory with the pioneer cassette super tuner we had.; damn we should have kept that car 😢😢😢

Not a fox body but same chassis and engine. When I got into my accident (hit someone pretty hard) airbags went off and I pulled over. While half unconscious from the hit and the airbag my passenger side airbag that had deployed began to start an electrical fire. Luckily the smell brought me back to and I was able to disconnect the battery before it actually went up in smoke. Found the wires melted together during my rebuil later on. Inertia switch also did not cut off so the car kept idling which would have spread that fire alot quicker.

The turn signal switch, the head light current runs through it too, mine would just go out driving down the road, tap the bright’s and they’d come back on. The connector was all burnt up.

I got my first Fox (89 GT Convertible) a few weeks ago and this issue with headlight switches has me concerned for sure. Is there a method to rewire that so that it doesn't melt the switch? I'm especially concerned because it's been 7 years since I was able to smell a single thing, and I don't wanna be in a situation where I find out too late that my car is barbecuing itself. This is very good information; I'll be checking those connectors first thing in the morning. It took me 15+ years to land one of these (at a steal, no doubt) and I ain't going out like that!

There's no way I'm going to drive around with my wife in a car knowing she isn't as protected as me if we get into an accident. Because of this I'm looking to get a 96-98 Cobra for my next Mustang.

hah! i just replaced my wheel cylinders after i got my rear brakes working again! put in a new soft brake hose from chassie to axle and left the car for the weekend at my house, came back went to move it and my rear brakes locked up evry time i pushed the brakes! dont think they were leaking.. but i replaced them and the problem went away. also there was part of a wheel cylinder floating around the trunk when i drug it out of the garage maybe that was the issue

Been following you for a while and finally picked up a 1989 GT. Looks like you have a 3 row aluminum radiator and stock fan so I wanted to ask if thats good enough for a mostly stock fox with AC? also was thinking about putting some weather stripping between the radiator and condenser so it can pull more air through the condenser. Previous owner installed a whole new LMR AC kit and it works but doesn't cool all that well and the pressure on the low side is high.

One that I’ve seen over the years is fuel tank issues when filled with to much fuel. Either the or old rubber seals going bad Or The pinch weld around the tank crack or separate and cause a gas leak Gas near exhaust is a no good
