I wouldn't worry too much about the negative videos you are talking about, the kind of foreigners you would want and enjoy seeing visiting Cambodia are probably educated and youtube experienced enough to recognize click bait videos and not put them off. Myself I can hardly wait to locate to Siem Riep as my new retirement base in February 2024. Bravo! Clare well said these click bait videos disturb me too. As unfortunately some would be visitors believe this nonsense. I've also noticed posts popping up on travel pages with the same troubling agenda. As an Australian woman who has been coming here for 20 plus years and spending extended periods of time here since 2017. I feel safe here in Cambodia - it's a super travel friendly destination. Khmers are warm and welcoming hosts. In fact I had this discussion with another Expat friend this evening. I actually feel safer heading out at night here than I did in my hometown in Australia. That said I think we know there will always be people everywhere who exploit others. Common sense needs to be applied wherever in the world we are. But on the other side some visitors show poor judgement. Also as a solo woman Expat/traveller Cambodia ticks all the boxes. Super amazing country with a rich culture. Thanks for stepping up and raising this. important issue. ❤

The cow part of this video reminded me during Khmer Rouge. One time I was walking on a dike between rice paddy, at the same time a cow was walking on the opposite direction of me on the same dike. As we walked toward each other, I kept staring at the cow and the cow kept staring at me until we faced to faced. after we stood face to face for a moment, the cow decided to turn around, but it kicked me on my leg before it ran away. After it ran about 50 meters away from me, it stopped and turn around looked at me before it walked away. It seems the cow sent me a message, take that. Until today I keep thinking cows have their own pride too. It is a funny story, but it is true. Thanks for share this video.

I've seen the effects of those kinds of videos on people who have claimed to feel extremely unsafe in Siem Reap. When I asked why, it wasn't that anything happened at all, they just heard horror stories and obviously internalized them and that became the filter through which they viewed SIem Reap, rather than seeing it as it is. It saddens me because the place is so safe and lovely.

Thank you again Claire and Jeremy. Great video. Always that orange/reddish dirt in that region of Cambodia. Love the eastern sounding music you added in. 👍🏼 👏🏼 Yes, lots of snakes in that part of the world. I’ll be studying them…..hopefully to have a better idea which ones only have a bite…..and which ones have a bite with venom. I imagine that most of them are relatively harmless. But even if not poisonous, a bite could still get infected. We just have to keep our eyes open, and be careful of possibly poisonous creatures or creatures with horns etc….
