PotO/LND- "Memories" (Erik ♥ Christine) Phantom of the Opera - a request

PLEASE READ to understand (lyrics below)- by request for
xXBrokenHeartsXx - 3 weeks in the making, but it’s finally done. ;-) Watch in HD for best experience...Normally I don’t repeat songs with other fandoms- but I made an exception with this one. I LOVE this song! - story of vid: Christine is surrounded by memories of her time with her Angel - both during the 3 months he separated himself from her while at the opera house and throughout the 10 years before they are again reunited. Throughout all the dark days without him, at times the memories seem more real to her than the present she is living, which feels surreal (symbolism shows this at times, though usually it is the memories that are shown that way through coloring, haze, etc). Often she imagines Erik there, as if he is really with her. When there is trouble between them (in LND) she recalls better times. The ring she folds into his hand is just that- her ring, and I paired the clip with the lyrics “I love you” to show the symbolism that Joel Schumacher (the writer of the screenplay) said it meant in an interview: Basically, the ring symbolizes Christine’s heart - what both men wanted - and it was to the Phantom she gave it. Also in the screenplay JS wrote - she turns back, as if singing to him - as Christine sings her last lines “Stay with me each night and each morning” - which incidentally is exactly where he left off with the song on the bridge in PONR. The red rose with the black ribbon is a sign of his love for her, as well as a sign of his presence, either in the moment or to come - though she does not always see him to know he’s there - and also is the meaning of the last clip shown - even as the photo fades, he is there and will be with her throughout eternity. Throughout song, Christine lives in her memories during the time Erik is absent from her, heartbroken without him, the memories what sustains her, until they are again reunited, to live out their destiny and their love. WOW!! I am literally at a loss for words to tell u how stunning this video was. I have been listening to the music from Phantom of the Opera since I was a kid and once again you have captured the breathtaking and heart breaking quality of the story. I also love how u put in scenes from love never dies. To say that u did a great job would b a serious understatement! Absolutely the best video I have ever seen. I don't think that you could ever top this. Gorgeous!

Such a lovely song with a wonderful couple. I notice that the music box seems to be a sort of symbolism, since that represents Erik, and it reminds Christine of him.

Christine Doctor Rose - yes it is! :) There was a lot of symbolism in the movie and stage show that my team of "Phans" and I found, which I refer to as the hidden plot - and from all I can see, they brought a lot of that same symbolism into LND too. And thank you! :) I'm glad you enjoyed the vid!

This is great! Saw a lot of these, many yours, all pretty great! No offense to the movie or any others, there are many great performers, but being a Sierra/Ramin fan, I enjoyed their clips very much! It's lovely. Are you still using Corel Videostudio? I had to force myself to move on to use Adobe Premier Pro with After Effects since that is the standard at school and well I'm still learning. There are so many technical challenges. Masking, I have to link the clips I need over to After Effects, key frame them with all the effects and save them back. Same, if I want to simple flip a clip over or add other animation. Blends and overlays, you have more options...sorry. Off track. But your video is lovely. Has Corel instituted any kind of key framing for motion with masking using the crop tool or a roto pen? I actually am doing all my editing on my laptop... Sorry, I've been MIA. I'm actually having some really difficult times. I finally made one video based on a fanfiction story that has inspired me but it's Dr. Who. Not something I think you watch. However, my next one will involve Emmy Rossum, but not the Phantom. I'm trying to be creative and do a more specific storytelling direct approach. Anyway...thanks for the lovely video.

emptyvoices31 - Thank you! And good to hear from you! :) Yes, I'm still using CVSU-X6. I'm not sure - in the Ultimate, there are a few extras I haven't tried- Mercalli is one, and others I saw that might make that possible (from a YT tutorial video I sort of skimmed), but so far I'm happy with the way I've been doing it, and I really like the Alpha processor filter- the ability to key frame the mask and enlarge it or make it smaller, hazier, etc. That has helped a lot. Maybe the Corel Videostudio X8 will have something like you're talking about, though, with a roto pen or crop tool for key frame masking. That would be cool, though I have a lot of fun making my own and I usually prefer them with cloudy wispy edges that still has some of the original background.:) Chroma key is also amazing at times. But there have been times that the paper doll cut out effect would have really come in handy though. lol

Oh, I have to send clips to After Effects to make a mask. Use a roto pen. Essentially draw around the person I want to mask. Then I feather the mask. There is a nice, easy option for that. It makes the edges hazy...Then I use an anchoring and scaling took to move the mask around. The best thing about Adobe Premiere is the number of opacity overlays. You don't just throw a clip on and use chroma key or lower opacity. You have 20 blending options. Like, overlay look, screen look, soft light, hard light, vivid light, key light, saturation, subtract, divide. Theoretically, you can send clips over to animate particular ones or whole sections of clips to After Effects to animate a specific way. There are more effects options in After Effects. Tons of them. The best thing about Adobe Premiere and getting After Effects with Photoshop...all the work you do whether it's in your editing program or your sending to After Effects, Photoshop, etc, it links it to your editing programs and the changes show up automatically as you are editing. No guess work. No wondering if this mask would work. It's still tricky. After Effects is huge. I'm scrapping the surface. I did my first video with the two just a week ago but only barely touched on it. I did some blends and a mask on it. I'm doing another as a trailer for a fan fiction which has a lot more masking. It's on Dr. Who but I'm using Emmy Rossum because she fits the physical description of the main original character. I kept hoping Corel would come up with a masking tool but X6 didn't have it and I didn't see anything for X7. The people I talked there said they had nothing planned. I sort of had to give up. Besides, Adobe Premiere and Adobe After Effects is industry standard. I should learn how to use it now.

emptyvoices31 - does it work with motion- and not take hours and hours to do one mask for a clip? If so, it sound like it's a worthy investment. :) That's mainly what I am trying to figure out now- my newest challenge - to make mask clips with them doing more than standing still and have it look right. lol

Adobe Premiere and After Effects work perfectly with motion. You draw out the mask with a roto pen on After Effects and then key frame the mask out and adjust the little handles everytime the character moves. The first time, learning it, takes a bit but after that, it doesn't take long to do your masks in general. If there is a ton of motion, like you want to mask a character running, well that will take more time then others. But my last video was with Adobe Premiere and After Effects. My first clip was using their masking technique which you just adjust it as the character moves....there is a motion tracking thing in there but it doesn't work to the proficiency we would like so I always key frame it myself rather then have After Effects do an auto track. If you decide to get the two programs or well the suite because you should...it's a subscription instead of paying a flat rate. It's around $20 a month and you get access to 10 programs...editing, After Effects, the full photoshop, lightroom, audition, etc. You can send clips to any of these other programs from Adobe Premiere, edit in these programs and Adobe Premiere saves your edits along side. But I could send you notes with instructions of how to mask. It should avoid complications. Basically adding the mask, drawing it, key framing it, feathering it and then scaling it and adjusting position...all right there. Once you get comfortable with using scale and anchor point, it's fine. You can then opne yourself up to the world of After Effects. There might be a free month trial. I'm not sure. I got the student version and prepaid for a year in advance. You'll also love the blending stuff on Adobe Premiere. You get interesting options. Think chroma key and opacity with a kick. I still have much to learn. I skipped the Adobe Premiere class and taught myself Adobe Premiere...there's a book but it's not really difficult. You'll need to get used to using keybound shortcuts.

AmyNikita yeah, that's true. But you won't be taking what I used or my theme or any of my symbolism or anything like that (i.e. like altering them from live into photos at the end, symbolic of remembering someone), you'll just be using the song and doing your own thing with it - right? :) Using same song as another isn't considered stealing (in my book), since we don't perform them or own them and everyone should be able to vid the songs they like, their favorites. Just because someone got to it first doesn't give them exclusive rights. ;-) If they are popular songs, that just means more great vids! :D - When it's stealing is when you copy the way someone did the clips (how you pair them with lyrics, though sometimes you may inadvertently use same clips there too, like when lyrics call for "falling" - and there is only one place in movie that happens where it would fit song. Then it's hard not to use what someone else did, especially if you're really into matching lyrics (like I am) but you can still be creative about it and make yours unique. Also another thing that makes it stealing is when you copy someone's editing ideas- though if what they did inspires you to try your own, and you give them credit for it, that's different. I've done that once or twice, and I always give that person credit in my description. It's basically Golden Rule stuff- do what you would want someone to do to you (or don't do it if you wouldn't want to find that someone has done that to you.) I've had a lot of my videos stolen, (the entire video uploaded and passed off as theirs) and it's not fun - but what you describe doesn't sound like stealing. (Sorry for this long novel- I have no idea why I wrote out this much! lol I guess since I'm in such a writing mood, I should probably go work on my phanphics! lol)

After all, I don't have the time to use great effects, so I'll just keep it simple but try my best :) And I'm not Team Erik so somehow I'll try make my video see the song in a different light, to fit what I believe. And another thing, sorry......but I want to change my channel layout and I've tried everything and asked everyone and no one's got back to me! My videos all scroll down on my main page, but I want them to be set out the way yours are, and most people's. Can you help tell me what to do? I would SO appreciate it! :D

AmyNikita - I didn't realize you weren't an E/C fan. I'm surprised you even watch my videos, since mine focus solely on them and usually in a very romantic light! lol - I can see this song working with an R/C vid (since I'm guessing you prefer Raoul with her?) - as to your question, go to the row of videos themselves, and in the right corner, there should be a little pencil-like icon when you move your mouse over it (to the side at the top probably, since you said yours all scroll). Click the pencil- under "Layout" choose horizontal row. And that's it. :) The arrows next to the pencil determine moving the rows above or below others. Hope that helped!
