This video from The Potomac Bead Company is part 2 in a two-part video, showing you how to get started with a bead loom. The Ricks beading looms by BeadSmith allow you to only use 2 warp threads, and make the entire setup process much faster. You can use nearly any kind of bead (small gemstones, seed beads, delicas, crystals, Czech glass), and quickly make incredible pieces of jewelry. Enjoy bead weaving with the loom!

Just a thought..... you could put a small cloth over the end of the beading frame, especially when starting off, this would stop the threads becoming tangled in the mechanics of the machine. Maybe you could even make a thin plastic cover to clip on, it was driving me insane watching the threads wrapping around the pins etc. Let me know how many thousands of dollars you make with the plastic cover haha. Enjoyed watching your video. TYFS

Another tip: stretch the weft thread before beginning to bead to get rid of the curls which cause knotting. I use two yards at a time and begin with the Ricks Beading Warp Separator card allowing me to begin my work away from the head stock.

I would recommend making the two separate 11" pieces and then stitching them together using square stitch.

Another way the use of the Warp Separator Card helps is that it keeps you from having to work the first few rows down next to the head stock.

Using the Warp Separator Card that comes with the Ricks Beading Loom makes that first row easier, though you may still need to use an awl to put the warps in the right place once you bring the beads up to the warp. The card brings all the warp threads onto the same plane.

As you probably know, you can add rows once the work is off the loom using square stitch. I've done this when I changed my mind about the kind of clasp and decided I needed a longer bracelet!

If you work your piece tighter by scooting the beads down until the fabric is somewhat wrinkled, then adding one more row, when you take it off the loom and smooth it back out, your fabric will not be loose.

Yes you can use square stitch to make off-loom projects that call for a loom. It will take a good bit longer, but give you the same type of look. We have another video for that, and we will attach it here as a response. Thanks!

Another way to avoid skipping warp threads is to run your needle through the row of beads, but stop while the needle is still inside all the beads and push down on the needle. Any skipped warp threads will pop up and reveal themselves! So you can just back the needle out and have another go at it. Get into the habit of doing that and it will save you some headache of fixing the skipped warps. And yes, do angle the needle slightly upward as you go through the rows also.

Dear S-M G, Yes, you can use metal on the loom. If the spool that it comes on is too large to pass under the warp end rods, you will have to rewind it on a smaller bobbin.

I would probably do half at a time. I don't have a loom right in front of me, but I am not positive that you can fit 4" of beads on it. So, if you do in stages, probably best to do 42 on one, 43 on the other, then when you are done with both pieces, take another thread to weave them together. Most bead software should allow you to adjust the pattern so that you are working the right direction, does yours?

Hello Melanie, When you take the piece off the loom, should you first remove the side that doesn't have the two war ends, scoot the beads down against that end, add the additional row to take up slack in the fabric, then remove the other end? Or, does leaving one end on the loom to add the last additional row make it kinda sloppy and hard to work with?

Hello Melanie, Are you able to use very thin metal on the beading loom?

Is this something that can be made without a loom? If so, what kind of stitch would it be? Thanks

Hi, drc536...sorry for such a delay in responding. I haven't watched these vids in a while. Do not take the bracelet off any rod until you have added the additional row. That would just make it way too awkward to me. I bet you know this by now! Just don't add too many rows or your fabric will turn out wrinkled.

the guy in this tutorial needs to get more comfortable with using this loom. It is made to look harder than this actually is to use. The camera strays away from the center of the screen........good video but not what I would show to first if they were looking to buy the Rick's Loom.

How can you do long projects on this loom? Like a cowboy hat band for instance. I cant find any tutorials or help for longer projects. Thanks!

For that you would probably want to make a few different pieces, then just sew them together.
@helenculwell8726
@helenculwell8726 6 жыл бұрын
Hello, no you do not need to sew them together. You can loosen the beads on top of the loom and roll them forward at the bottom. If this process is difficult to understand please check out Jill Weisman’s videos. She will show you how to make a longer strand. Good luck!
