seems like good idea to remove the bark on the left over stub and coat that with honey as well....get roots sprouting on the stubby......hey, would that work on any stubby???

I did my first Air Layer last month and after 37 days I cut the new tree from the Mother tree a few days ago and it is slowly recovering. I have a new 32 inch tall Hardy Chicago Fig tree. The entire process too 37 days. I didn't use Rooting Hormone either. I secured the Air together and on the tree with small gauge copper wire. I still have all 17 leaves that I started with. The leaves were huge but they reduced the size by themselves which I found interesting. The leaves are smaller in size now but thicker. I started other air layers on this Fig and I am seeing roots in the bottles in the order I started them, 6 over a month. I have time progressed pics of the Air Layers. I am trying to root other plants too. I am trying to root a Apple Tree from a sucker on a branch.

One lady on another channel says to cut your leaves in half instead of removing them ... interesting idea.

'air bubbles' don't kill roots. Come on now. The airyness is very acceptable to roots.
