Not just to Bonnie, but to all parents out there, please remember that TRUE bedwetting isn't a habit. If a child is waking and wetting out of laziness that's one thing and a chart might work... if a child is wetting the bed during sleep there's absolutely no charts, gifts, or other prizes that can make them stop. If he's going days in between that's a good indication that his body is developing the ability to stay dry and hold it and he may very well stop naturally very soon, but if he's having accidents in between he's just not there yet. I've known children who didn't stop wetting the bed sporadically until they were 7 or 8, others were in their teens. Giving a little prize every time he reaches 10 days (not consecutive, just 10 days period, a sticker each dry day) is okay and aim for a big prize when he stays dry completely, but it seems sad to start over with nothing each time he wets. He may not make that 14 day goal for months, or even years. I'm a big fan of consequences and rewards for actions, but consequences and rewards are for behaviors a child has the ability to control.

KentuckyChickRK in their teens?? If teens are wetting the bed that's definitely a problem....
@Unofkystudent7 жыл бұрын
Yes Mady. If you studied human development you would know that there are individuals who struggle with bedwetting into their teens and even into adulthood. Of course it's a problem at that age, but it does happen and when it does beyond the age of 6 or 7 children should definitely see a doctor. There are individuals who have bladders that are smaller than normal, some who experience incontinence and others who simply sleep too deeply to wake at the urge. The point is, bedwetting at Boston's age is perfectly normal and if it is true wetting (if he is asleep when it's happening), then until his body develops the ability to wake up to go, no amount of rewards or consequences will make it stop.

When our oldest son was potty training, he was trained at night before the day time. I had read something that I tried with him and it worked. About 30 minutes before he went to bed we gave him a small glass of mild with a teaspoon of honey stirred in (it takes a bit to stir it in because the milk is cold). Then have him go potty just before getting into bed. And he was dry in the morning. Not sure how it worked but it did. And it saved me having to get up with him in the night to take him potty. Go, Boston, you can do this.

Some kids just actually can't help it. My 6 year old daughter still wets the bed every single night. We've tried absolutely everything (except medication). I'm not too worried about it yet but the Dr. Said if she's still doing it when she's 8 we may have to try a medication. We make her go pee before bed and then right before I go to bed I take her to the toilet and sometimes I'll get her up again in the middle of the night when I'm up with my baby and she STILL wakes up wet. It's so frustrating! Anyways...I hope Boston is easier than my experience haha. Good luck!

Bonnie it's actually normal for kids, especially boys, to take up until 7 to make it through the night. After that it may be a concern to bring to your Doctor. My foster son was 6 before he was dry every night and his doctor said it just takes some kids bodies longer to be able to hold it. They can't control it. On the other hand, my bio son made it through the night almost right away shortly after training when he was 2.

I feel like a "reward" method for being able to reach so many nights without wetting the bed, is a bad idea. Promise of a reward can NOT magically just stop a child from bed wetting. He doesn't do it on purpose. You will just cause them anxiety and self esteem issues about it. There is ton of early childhood research done about this................... sigh.

Exactly. My youngest is 7 and still has to wear pull ups at night. He hates it and is embarrassed, but he still wets the bed. The dr is not concerned and said it just happens in some children and they can't control it. Only concern is if they're an adolescent and still wetting the bed. I feel sad for Boston. So much pressure on him for something he can't control.

I found they had mishaps when they were overtired. Perhaps if you keep track you will notice that is the case with Boston as well. just a friendly tip from one mommy to the other:) . 4 years old I feel is pretty old to still it be potty trained at bedtime.when my kids were 2, I started daytime potty training and at night time I would put a pull up but also leave a potty chair in the room (I had a baby gate at their door). I found this helped night time alot because almost every morning I would wake up and find that they went to potty during the night.
@Unofkystudent7 жыл бұрын
Having a potty chair in the room is a great tip if children are "lazy wetters" or for those who might be afraid to get up and go to the bathroom, but it's actually quite normal for a 4 year old to not be completely accident free at night and since Boston didn't know he was wet it would seem he is not awake when he's wetting. What parents refer to as "nighttime training" is truthfully not training at all, but the ability of a child's body to hold urine and/or wake up when needing to go at night. You cannot actually train the body to do either of these things. There are plenty of children who are able to sleep through the entire night and wake up dry even before they're potty trained (that's always a good indication of readiness) and many children develop that natural ability right around the age of potty training which is why many parents refer to this as having nighttime trained their child. However, if a child's body does not develop this ability and that child's brain does not trigger them to wake up in the night when there is an urge to go, then you end up with true bedwetting (in other words, a child that is fully asleep and wetting). Having a potty in the room will only help if the child is waking at the urge.

The style of titles you use is not clickbait, I watch all of your videos because I enjoy them anyways and you have a really fun and happy family. It said if you embarrass someone in front of 3 or more people it's equivalent to murdering them. Please consider Boston's feelings on this matter. Even in front of your other children. Anyone who has ever been embarrassed can attest to the feeling. The Torah which is also the first 5 books of the Bible says that. The headline reads "Peed the bed again." That's humiliating. Don't forget there is also a camera and 3 other children right there. Children have feelings. I'm sure if one of you wet the bed you wouldn't want it broadcast to the world. I have 3 young children and have been through this myself but they grow out of it. Change the sheet or pull ups and move on.
@Momof4boys7 жыл бұрын
Well that's the teaching I learned as a child from the Torah. If you have ever been embarrassed in front of someone you would agree. Boston was embarrassed. There is a camera and 3 other children in the room. It is a private matter. When my children wet in there sleep it is cleaned up with no mention of it and we move on. My now 10 year old used to wet the bed he doesn't now. But I by no means am a perfect parent and neither is anyone else. I was just sad for Boston. He does have feelings and they are important

Caitlin698 the headline didn't read that. It read "Peed the bed again" that is humiliating. There are tactful ways to go about life and not so tactful ways. I'm not perfect either but if I was shaming my sons I would hope it would be brought to my attention. G-d bless you

My other 4 year old stopped about 6+ months ago. And even seeing him not get a pull-up didn't help. He'll be dry every now and then. And yes, I did try the waking them up before I went to bed to potty didn't help. I also read that his bladder could not be mature yet or he's not producing enough of the hormone that reduces the amount of urine the body produces at night. He'll get there. It's just that pull-ups aren't cheap and washing bedding every day isn't cheap. And the wear and tear on it.

What parent would share the potty training process ,bed wetting on KZbin ? How cruel is that ... Did you stop to thing how Boston may feel, when he is older in life, that is mother & father filmed & shared with the KZbin world him wetting the bed ... That could be very psychologically -damaging... STOP AND THING there is a Nuff bullying going on in the world, without u giving personal information about your child's development . How would you feel if your parents shared your bed wetting experience with the world. And when you stared school your friend found KZbin video ,of you bed wetting experience ,and bully to you about it.

Don't feel bad about filming Lincoln so much. I love it. :)
