I didnt learn much about pouch vs cylindrical batteries here but i did learn how invested ebmx actually is to serving their customers. Very impressed! good job!!

I am looking for a supplier for NMC pouch cells, I am going to be building a 20kwh battery for my motorcycle conversion. I want 300 miles of range. Any chance I can get a link to buy some of these cells that arent from China?

Any plans to make a battery with a better bms for higher output? 72v 57ah is enticing but limited by bms to 125a

Love these videos. Keep up the good work boys. These batteries look so much better than the chai battery. However I noticed the Chi battery now has a display that shows amp hours, watt hours, etc. This is way better than a voltage-based state of charge display.

I work in battery testing and usually, especially due to heat differences, pouch cells tend to bulge/swell more than cylindrical cell do (we actually run tests called "1C swelling" ^^). Is the potting not preventing that, causing higher internal pressure? Or is the potting material able to compensate that? A teardown/build video would just be amazing but anyways, thanks for the effort you took on creating the best aftermarket batteries for surron!

The main difference comes down to the cell quality… just like any other thing, cheap pouch cells are rubbish, premium pouch cells are amazing! Good quality cylindrical cells are accessible to any small business and DIY community but premium pouch cells are restricted to large scale business. The better the cells the more documentation and minimum order the premium cell manufacturers require from the business trying to buy. Basically all premium pouch cells that I’ve ever worked on multiple projects for multiple companies they just don’t swell/puff even if they’re not compressed. Unless they’re very abused but even in that case I only saw a few cells out of thousands losing the vacuum but not puffing. Steel case and potting are an additional mechanical barrier protecting from penetration, dents and of course keeping the cells compressed as well =]

@@BrunoPOWEEER cylindrical cells have over 25 years of longevity pouch cells nowhere near that not to mention as someone else said they are prone to swelling and I'm going to go out on a limb and say that's why you're only given a two-year guarantee on a battery the cost of which should come with a 10 year guarantee

@@BrunoPOWEEER Interesting to know these premium pouch batteries are not available for sell to all customers. Unless we repurpose a car battery to extract their premium pouch cells and build another battery from that? :) Wondering if that would work

I have a Microvast NMC 13S 21Ah pouch battery with a very long rated cycle life (3000-5000), and the voltage sag under load is impressively low, about 0.7V @ 1C. any cylindrical cell battery has more than twice the sag, and definitely not the cycle life. the challenge is for ebike (pedelec) batteries, the geometry of pouch cells requires a custom made case that will not fit in tight frames. welding a custom case though is absolutely worth the challenge for having an amazing performance battery to last and last

pouch batteries were always synonymous with lipo. And those lipos were always abused because of their high discharge ratings of 25C+. Probably why u see so much puffing, and why pouch batteries have such a bad rep. I'm no Tesla engineer but i think they stuck with the cylindrical cells because they wanted to use the cells as part of the structural integrity of the car. anyways informative video on the batteries, i'm a believer now in pouch cells, as long as they are the correct chemistry (and not fake) lol.

72V 42Ah 6C discharge, 1C charge 60V 53Ah 6C discharge, 1C charge both have a lot of headroom when considering everybody is running a max. of 15kW on controllers, because the motor can not make use of more power. both bigger batteries have even more headroom, as all 4 of them are 6C discharge 😄

@3:05 if pouch cells were the end-all-be-all then the thing you're not mentioning is why isn't Tesla going two pouch cells instead of coming up with a new form factor for a cylindrical cell?

We can not speak to the decisions that Telsa has for not using pouch cell yet, however many other car manufactures are using pouch cells and having great success with them.
@DaveElectricАй бұрын
Because to have a high range EV you need to have a low C rate operation. For example, let's say you want a car that runs for 5 hours. To run for 5 hours, your effective C rate operation has to be 0.2C or less. Pouch cells are typically rated from 8C, to 15C, to 25C, to 50C, and higher. Let's say you ran a 10C circuit. 3600 seconds / 10 = a motor operation of 360 seconds or 6 minutes. That's it. You can't run a daily driver vehicle at that C rate operation.
