I was running this saw for about 2 hours at about a 30-50% duty cycle kzbin.infoUgkxfQm1wmg0ItKDLavxj1nXtQY9HP7EF504 and it did a great job. I used the lever for the built in sharpener to clear chip buildup out more than to actually sharpen the chain. It managed to cut some hardwood stumps much larger than it's size without bothering the neighbors with hours of 2 stroke noise.

I have 2 Poulan Pro 42CC and a WoodShark chainsaws and need to replace all of their fuel lines. Thanks to youtube, I'm seeing that oddly to me, the supply line from the tank (with the filter) is actually the smallest diameter fuel line, and the return line from the primer bulb, back to the tank is slightly larger in the ID diameter for some reason. I'd of bet it was the other way around, but that's not from what I found. I can't find the proper, smaller sized line locally anywhere, and I'm very tempted to simply drill out the hole in the tank a bit, and use the line I have found. I'm guessing Poulan's design engineers are way smarter than me for sure, so they must have their reasons for making the saws as they do. Why do you think these Poulan's even need to have 2 different sizes of fuel lines in the first place, and maybe more importantly, why do you think the supply line is the smaller of the lines? Thanks for your thoughts. Dave

Many differences between "Poulan" and "Poulan Pro" saws- A/V, Strato scavenging for starters. I've had a couple "Pros" for 4-5 yrs as backups. Tossed junk "Torch" plug on 4218- strongly suggested. 5020 even gets used for some chainsaw milling. Much better saws, for the $, than anything Stihl offers, especially as factory refurbs, from VMInnovations.

Late read. Suggest check sparkplug gap. 30 thou tends to improve. Hot starting. The plug may need replacing, could be not functioning properly when hot. Good luck.

For some reason the Poulan Pro saw I have is not assembling like my other saws did. I have the excess chain which I cannot get to tighten due to that problem. I was wondering if this is the right chain for the saw as I got it from Wal-Mart with the bar, and chain off and I having to put it on. I have an older Poulan saw, and a Stihl saw which wasn't difficult to put the chain on the bar.

I like to tinker with old small engine equipment and I found a poulan pro 16 inch saw at the side of the road for free like 2 houses down from me and I cleaned the carburetor and it runs great it is now our main chainsaw so when people say poulan pro is garbage they are Lying because poulan and poulan pro are very good quality saws

I noticed that, too. My manual, and the one online, says 50:1. The video may be dated. I believe the previous generation of Poulan chainsaws might have needed 40:1. But the one here in this video seems to be 42cc w/18" bar, just like the PR4218 I now own. Go figure.

My new poulan pro says 50 to 1 ratio mix. It's a 2018 model 4218. So I guess that changed on new ones. I use 50 to 1 on my 14 inch poulan saw that I've had for 3 years now. You all jump in on some advice don't want to screw up my saws; there in desperate need for fire wood

These are basically good saws ,when you get one ,get the tool to adjust fuel mixture screws and adjust it to suit your conditions, some of them are to lean with the factory settings and are seizing and also use a 25-01or 30-01 fuel oil mix , the recommended fuel oil mix of 40 or 50 to 1 is NOT ENOUGH LUBRICATION!
@Bob_Adkins
@Bob_Adkins 7 жыл бұрын
Amen sir! Break them in rich, then lean them out, but not too much. Also, as you say, NEVER use 40 or 50:1! I find 30:1 works great, saw runs cool, still doesn't smoke. That 50:1 ratio is not for you, it's for some bureaucrat at the EPA!

@tatsumaru12345
@tatsumaru12345 7 жыл бұрын
Do yourself a favor, and go with a stihl. I've only used a cheap poulan. But I never could keep the darn tensioner, even brand new out of the box, tight. Every few cuts, bam! Have to tighen it again. Bought a cheap stihl 170 for 180$. Just like the dealer said, it honestly is like having a cadillac, vs a geo metro. You put it on full choke, pull it five times. Half, you pull typically twice. Then when warm, next step up. The choke essentially primes it. But if you ever turn it off? While warm, mine starts almost always on the first pull. My 'one' issue with the stihl, the spark plug wire keeps coming off. Even brand new.

So now I am going to return it to the store that I purchased it at to see if they will honor their in house satisfaction guarantee or full refund. I think they will. This is why it is important to always do business with a well established retailer. As far a poulan goes, I will send these posted comments to their headquarters and CEO if i can find his or her address as well as consumer reports and the BBB.

draining your saw can cause your diaphragms and gas lines to dry out the best thing u can do its a mix a quality oil with a stabilizer and start run your saw at least once a month to keep the fuel flowing in the carburetor and adjust your carburetor properly most running problems is carburetor being out of adjustment and metering lever under the diaphragm especially in new saws carburetor adjustment in saws needs them to be set correctly o the pistons don't melt the can melt over time or in one run time.

I request a manufactures coupon of some sort and she told me she was not the manufacture, I will have to call another number. So in other words the number in the book is a eat shit number. She said they were just a call center. She gave me the correct number, I called, when through the same story, then the lady on the next number told me she was just a call center as well. @jcwoods2311

Dip your index finger into the tank being certain it touches the bottom. remove finger and slowly lick finger taking notice how high it tastes of premix. 80% is just above the 2nd knuckle, any higher and you risk a deadly explosion and fire.

I bought one of these saws the other day. it never ran, right out of the box. I had to exchange it for another one, which doesn't run properly, makes awful grinding noises, and shoots sparks off the chain. The plastic is cheap and brittle, and has a reputation for melting under the heat of the muffler and engine. Spend the extra $100 and get a Husky or Sthil. Never buy a Poulan product, especially chainsaws, their chains are well known to fly off the blade and can cause serious injury or death.

Suggestion: Hire a Tuber to do your videos, this is awful. Examples: @6:57 "grab the starter handle with your right hand" (showed the 'T" handle being grabbed with the left hand in the video) @7:10 - 7:20 three separate steps are spoken, steps demonstrated well enough to see: Zero. I tuned in to see a demonstration of the chain brake in operation, kind of important and unique to chainsaws, I guess I'll keep looking... Personal Opinion. you should delete this video, and try again. This is marketing 101, Hire someone who knows how to connect with people and can cover what should be covered, to the degree it should be done.

I had to tune my Pro 18", now it runs like a $400 saw. Replaced the bar and chain with an Oregon, and now it cuts (almost) as well as a $400 saw. My buddies are embarrassed that my Poulan starts, runs, idles, and cuts so well. If their fancy saws are not well tuned and sharp, they know they are beaten. It's a shame that "clean" Poulan factory tuning degrades such a nice engine, it's a shame they put such shoddy bars and chains on them.

It's all about the big-box-store price-point. Proper bar & chain are cheap from forester, frawley's or bailey's. Proper plug and Husqy carb tool cost a couple bux. Many bux saved. Way better buys than small homeowner stihls, IMO. (Saw-chain filing is a valuable art.)

You do mention how to repair the problem with the new saws. seems to be a problem with ALL Poulan products. My brand new chainsaw runs, have to keep my finger on the throttle or the engine will not stay running. if it stalls, I have to wait until it cools down before I can start it again. Maybe you should tell the people the only ones that work are the refurbished chainsaws. Actually I tell everyone I know I know about these problems. Tell them what junk they are.
