Thanks dude, this was the comparison i wanted to see on the W20. For me listening on your video on calibrated studio monitors with 2 12 inch subs. I way prefer the sound of the blast up to 80%. I have been thinking about pick up a couple for a good while now. But i am still holding out though, hoping for something better to come along. Because that 5k dip is really disappointing and i find using a mains lead to charge, really stupid in 2024 when we have convenient USB-C with PD all over the place. Keep going i really appreciate your work keeping us updated.

for sure if you have good ears the blast sounds better but x20 will be better for a party. you might wanna hold fire, i think sometime this year a mk2 will arrive.

@@alanrossreviews Agreed, when maxed out for a party the x20 for sure is more impressive for the money. But then two blasts could be pretty close I bet and with wider stereo. But from guys putting on big parties, it sounds like they often prefer to go all he way up to the likes of the Soundboks and even add a separate sub to that. Interesting point about a possible mk2. I for sure hope you are right. It has been two years since the blast was released and they must know about the complaints there is about it. They could put out a refined version. After all this seem to be a good tradition in the Bluetooth speaker market. To release newer version every few years. I mean they all have an built in limit on how long they last because they all are running on battery packs. So the market is primed for updates on the products sooner or later. Otherwise someone else will snag their sale. Because many people can easily think, hmm this model I really liked broke in a few years, let's not buy that exact model again let's find something better. And an updated version will satisfy most of those fears.

Have had 2 blasts for a couple years know. For 300 bucks and alans eq settings not much compares. They're dynamic away from each other but put them somewhat close and against a wall or a corner and they get so much louder and heavier. They charge fast and the battery life is awesome. Perfect for a golf cart btw. Both have fallen from heights without any audible changes. Just some scratches. Wish we had more control over the lights because both shows are just dumb.

I have seen a review already, a short one, where i could see the drivers under the grill, and it had 2 fullrage drivers and a tweeter in the middle. i bought one of the first pair of mk4s. for me it was disappointing with less bass than mk3. few other issues and at that point not even a working app. i gave my feedback to the company and they got very pissy. said they knew i wouldnt like the bass. now i dont feel reviewing it but just tell people my thoughts when they ask. but i will get to it. in my opinion they took early buyers for a ride with an unfinished product. later they emailed to say they tweaked the bass.

Surely the best at reviewing those type of speakers 🔊. Nobody else gives that type of care and seriousness to that sector of sound reproduction. As an audio enthusiast, i’ve never being a fan of the use of measurements and numbers(recognizing that they describe to some extent the experience of audio listening) to describe a hearing experience, relying more on my ears as judges, and what gives me enjoyment and music communication. Being that as it is, i respect the care that you put on your reviews and that you are not “sold” to companies, giving an honest review and a very useful and accurate description. All that in your own funny and unconventional way!

@@Quasar-79 measurements are a modern phenomenon outside of speaker design. in the old days you just listened to speakers and decided what you like. even in speaker design measurements only go so far. its really social media and the web that had focussed in on measurements as the thing. even then the logic they sue for this is flawed imho. it is one element but certainly not a case of it should be flat at 1 meter in anechoic chamber as started by harman in an effort to sell more speakers. on average more people preferred speakers that measure flat anechoically based on a sample of less than 300. the rest is history 🤣🤣

Blast has been in the market for awhile.yet still give the best bang for your buck for serious outdoor portable Bluetooth speaker in my opinion.i have jbl pb310,,but to big.!!!..then I bought Sony xb43,,,but only suitable for small personal room usage. In outdoor,it struggle to fill the area unless your ear facing near it.with handle,more than Sony operating hours,and dual power mode...I hope my quest stopped at this tribit blast...decent size to carry...

i used to when i first started but quite honestly i have honed my own system for my clips for what i consider fairest way and why would i just give the info out? i mean the basics of course are an omnimic v2. but creating a quasi anechoic setup for the recordings with just enough reflection for some imaging so i can make direct comparison to original tracks has taken a lot of workarounds. also normalising tracks but in such a way as to keep the characteristics of each speaker intact (rather than a straight loudness' normalisation) i think of as my secret source. i already see people copying some of what i do. its like asking coca cola for their recipe 😜

Got the the Tribit today. It seems O.K but sounds slightly hollow and a little lifeless it's fine for 140, but don't expect clean open airy highs. Hopefully it will burn in but it probably wont but I've decided to keep it but only just. EQ only goes up to 12.8khz.

A new Alan video! I've been listening closely. The vocals on the Stormbox blast sound to me a bit more unnatural (peak, shhh and thin?), in comparison to the X20. Especially on higher volumes, that peak on the blast is kinda a turn-off. You could EQ it, sure, but at the same time you could EQ the X20,. I guess it's a matter of taste 😜

I just noticed the blast having its peak to get clarity, versus the 'bloated' clarity of the X20. It's like the blast relies on just one peak, which makes it sizzely to me. While as, the X20 has a more evenly spread boosted highs (on multiple HZ zones). Overall, with the somewhat better mids made me like it more? Not saying you are wrong though, normally what I like is in-line with your opinion.

Yeah I have sold my mk3s after getting mk 4s, thought the bass was a bit better and better sound overall to my ears, I didnt test extensively though. Plus connecting them is more reliable. Only a 2 band eq though.

this is the thing its dumbed down. no low gain mode no dual in/out ports,. i havent tried the new firmware but i can tell you the old firmware was not good. if the bass is better now you can thank me 😝

Currently have jbl 110 but despite lower the bass its still overpowered bass and gives headache. I had TSBB it wasn't the case. Mainly for watching TV shows and movies. Aura studio is such a good alternative to the onyx line. Looks much better as well. They used to use the sub from the soundsticks and just add full rangers around the base, wonder if it's any different now

its not quite as bad as it looks, the og track does have a downward slope. i use it just for the loudness test.

@@alanrossreviews Yes, that could be the reason behind looking like a nasty peak - pushed mids in the original track. I do see the capabilities of these cheap speakers. But I wonder why they leave some of those nasty peaks unfixed. You can have different types of sound signatures and they can all sound reasonable without huge peaks and dips. I think when it's crossover related issues, can be hard to fix. However, when the cheap speakers are capable of producing louder deeper bass, then they are certainly capable of fixing weird peaks and dips. I think they care about all of these, as they are working on producing better bass and more power at a cheap rate. Just weird frequency response doesn't seem reasonable. Kinda thinking, they might believe in different kinda frequency response other than getting close to flat. Do you have any thoughts on why these cheap speakers leave some of those nasty peaks and dips untouched ..?

@@nebojsanestorovic1416 That's what bass boost does. By loosing, I think you mean hearing less mids and treble relative to the bass. It's not actually losing, but it's possible if tuned like that ...

the x20 has a big 1.2khz peak,. so with a track that has a downward slope and the fact that you lost some relative bass its making that spectrum graph look a bit nastier than it is but yes that peak is still nasty. its just that the combination of 100% and a rolled off track is bringing it even more into focus. I have come to realise why the tuning on the chinese ones are so often so bad. it is because they give units for beta testing to people signing up to be beta testers. they are not trained listeners but people who just want to be part of the process. so when asked what tuning they prefer they of course are more of the v shaped brigade and those that do not listen to multiple genres. they are not given to sound engineers to tune as such. more the other way round, with software engineers guided by the marketing guys who are guided by inexperienced beta testers. you can see the problem here right?

I currently have a Soundcore Motion Plus that's two years old. A friend used it at 100% volume for months, and now it has some distortion when playing bass-heavy songs. I'm planning to give away this speaker to my friend since he likes it so much. Now, I'm looking to buy another portable speaker. I've tried the Tribit Stormbox Blast,which is loud in outdoor too. I preferred the Soundcore Motion Plus inside home. Should I get two Soundcore Motion Plus speakers or just one Tribit Stormbox Blast? Are there any other good speakers that have come out recently that I should consider?

Won't the 2k peak mean that for a given volume, you will lose bass on the Wking, if you are playing it at low volume at home? On the other hand, if you are playing outside at a party then all of that will retard the treble and midrange, and it might sound better.

@@Jeffdachefz Nope, I'm indeed talking about outdoors. It's mid bass focus makes a very fat bass that spreads REALLY well outside. And it's tuned rather warm to let this bass shine. Loudness wise it's perfectly fine, 50% is loud enough outdoors for any use I can think of outside of having a big party. Outdoors it gives a wonderful sound. Indoors it can be quite boomy, it's easily beaten by the likes of Boombox 2 for example (which in turn sounds tinny outdoors due to its focus on deep bass).

@@Jeffdachefz I am not a party guy, however I take a speaker everytime I go outdoors, they usually sit on my shoulders or on my back. And if I end up sitting somewhere, the speaker is always close to me and I use it for me alone, not for other poeple. So yeah, probably not the same needs lol. I never managed to find a situation where I need anything close to maximum volume, unless I take speakers like the Mifa Wildrod or Maxsound Plus outside (I don't)

You need ot use the custom EQ and dont use the Bass boost.. X20 is better outdoor but indoor i prefer the BB3
