The thing I always get tripped up on is.. why does Lbm even have a basis to exist? Why isn’t slugs treated as the base unit for mass like kg’s are for metric? Why are there two units for mass? I don’t understand the existence of this unit.

Why the fuck won't everyone stick with the international system of units
@HonduranHoneymoonhonАй бұрын
What do you mean stick with? It was forced on everyone in the last 100 years or so. Except for America. And then various parts other countries use still, but not as a whole. The real question is why did people not stick with their measuring system they already had

two units for mass in the english system=stupid. mass is a mass force is a force, don't confuse the issue.

yeah true why they trying to confuse .....

It has to do with history where they initially thought mass and weight was the same thing.

Pounds aren't a measurement of mass moron...

I think we are all here because of the damn Zill Differential Equations textbook which uses pounds as a weight force for some strange reason
@ChrisRoxDuhh3 жыл бұрын
Literally, no one uses slugs in the U.S. Yes, it is a unit for lbm, but we typically turn back to the metric system for mass alone. Also, in the U.S we use weight(lbs) to describe ourselves, and in metric countries, they refer to mass units(kgs).

So lbm is defined in slugs(ft/s^2) too ??? the lbm’s cancel during the conversion at the end leaving 150 slugs(ft/s^2). So how can you say 150lbf = 150lbm when the term for lbm cancelled during your conversion? Shouldn’t it end up saying 150lbf = 150slug(ft/s^2)?? This is what always confuses me

Nope this system is by the British not America, It’s called US Customary Units because units of volume value was changed, except that all are British units itself
@Chloholio3 жыл бұрын
I want to dislike this just because the US system sucks so bad but you did too good of a job explaining this.

this is not the metric system. this is the u.s system.

This is not American but British system of units, it’s called US customary Units because US changed the value of volume units, rest all are just British
