I’m a newbie and this video had help me with information about the mediums...it’s lot’s of new ideas and different products that people are using for pouring and I like to work with the proper products. Even though Golden is a bit more costly for me. But I appreciate!

I found the valley interesting. Do you know if all goldens different matte gel creates valleys in gloss gels? Or is it only the pouring medium?

I also wonder. Does pouring medium NOT make paints lighter/transparent? Because Then Why do people not use that or airbrush medium if that doesn’t make paint lighter/transperent instead of flow-aid or glaze? I want a medium that makes it easy to create a even layer gold color for my background, WITHOUT making the gold less shiny, without making the gold lighter or more transparent. What medium should I use to, going by name and purpose i would say the flow-aid But that isnt correct now is it because it Will make it more transparent/lighter. So is pouring medium gloss or airbrush best? Before watching this video I wouldn’t have even thought about oreganos prejats doing a Pour as background. I have seen someone recommend using airbrush instead of flow or glaze, i guess the fluid gloss or gel gloss in both soft and heavy body ALSO make paint lighter if you mix it and dont paint over it (so thats not What I am going for in this particular painting i am writing about now. Just to throw it out there tho) hope you’ll answere even tho its an old video.

Hello, thanks for the questions. Adding any medium is going to reduce the amount of pigment of the paint you mix with it. Some pigments are more transparent than others. Our Iridescent and Interference paints are highly pigmented, and made to be modified with gels, mediums and other acrylic products. Also, these are pretty thick paint layers so they can easily be more opaque if you don’t overdo the amount of medium and you have a solid base color. Golden Color Pouring Medium Gloss or GAC 800 will both work well for creating a solid layer of Iridescent Gold. If you want a uniform layer of gold, you do not want to add any additives like Flow Aid, as they are used to generate cell effects. Airbrush Medium may also create cells, but it would certainly thin the mixture down. The way I would approach creating a solid gold layer over an entire painting would be this: Apply a base color of something like Yellow Ochre, or another non-iridescent color. Naples Yellow Hue would work for a lighter gold color. Use Fluid Acrylics, blend at 7 parts GAC 800 to 3 parts paint color. Cover mixtures up and leave them sit for a day to allow bubbles to rise and pop. This layer will create a solid underlayer that will make the Iridescent Gold color appear to be more opaque than it actually is. It hides unevenness. Couple of things... - Other words that can replace subtle are "barely perceptible", "almost imperceptible", - This is is filled with very clever ideas, including using a spoon not only for mixing but for application. - He mentioned questions about techniques for particular ideas. I'm not sure if this applies, but the idea of making the substrate look like sidewalk concrete with heavy paint, epoxy, and gum like materials designed on top. What's the best way to do that? - This man has extremely interesting thumbnails. Know puns, are intended.
