Great channel - don't worry about having perfectly scripted and polished videos as I know they are a huge time suck to produce. Very interested in seeing your memory usage results. I picked up an M4 mini Pro base (24GB/512GB + 4TB external in TB4 enclosure) which I'm testing out with Logic Pro. I think I'm going to keep this config as I'm not having any memory pressure issues for what I'm doing which is mostly chill/synthwave/nu-disco. Would have preferred 32GB RAM for just a bit more buffer but $500 CAD is a crazy upgrade price for an additional 24GB RAM which I'd never need. Also, if one does too many upgrades on this mini, it starts creeping into Studio territory and I expect the M4-based units will be out in the first half of 2025.

I think what matters is the memory pressure, if it’s green it’s good, because mac can optimize memory usage and use all the memory you have even if it doesn’t need to make the os faster.

many of us PC users are experiencing major CPU spikes following the windows 11 24h2 update. as far as I know there are no patches yet. would you happen to know anything about the specific bug that is to blame?

One thing I’d really appreciate if you could test with this SSD: Imagine you have a Mac Mini with an external SSD connected via USB-C. Since you never fully shut down the Mac, you simply log out and let macOS manage sleep on its own. How does this affect the connected SSD? My concern is that, at some point, macOS might display the dreaded “Disk Not Ejected Properly” message for the SSD. This isn’t ideal, as repeated improper ejections can lead to damage. I experienced this firsthand with a Samsung T7 connected to my M1 MacBook Pro-I occasionally forgot to eject it before closing the lid, and over time, the drive failed completely. Now that I’m considering upgrading to an M4 Mac Mini, I’m debating whether to invest in the 2TB internal storage option to avoid this issue altogether. However, as you know, that’s extremely expensive. If a reliable external SSD solution exists, I’d love to explore that instead.

Good idea! I don't think it's an easy way to solve this ejection problem. But there are tools out there that should help. I will add it to a section in the video. :)
