seeing the younger children and even just the young adults dancing in full regalia...I have chills. I am not of the Lakota or any indigenous nation in the USA, but that is a universally beautiful thing right there, the older generations passing on the legacy of their culture, their spirits, their connection to the great Mystery and to their own history, as well as present and future. The younger generations carry us forwards. Much love to the Oglala, as well as all the indigenous peoples and nations of Turtle Island from north to south. Your cultures and traditions are incredible.

I'm 87% Native American. My mother is of the Lakota Sioux and used to take me to these pow wows. I could feel my roots in the soil, in the land. My father who is Irish, named me after his grandmother, but that's a different story. My mother didn't like my name much and she used to call me '' little rabbit '' in Lakota. Love you Mom and Dad. See you in a week. xD

How can you be 87% Native American if your dad is Irish? You'd be a maximum of 50%.

I would LOVE to go to a powwow sometime! I could feel their spirits as the drummers drummed & the dancers danced!!! It was powerful for me. The only regret that I have in life is that I'm not full-blood Native American. I'm only 1/6 blood. If I could become full-blood through a blood transfer, I'd do it so quickly that it'd make a fast-hopping rabbit look like it was moving in slow-motion!!!

I am so happy to see this. I'm an Anglo-American from California. I had nothing to do with the conquering or suppression of folk on this continent, although it is possible that some of my ancestors did, but I don't know that. I just happened to be born here, and I love the music and dance of the Plains Indians and of the Indians of my local area (Miwoks, Nisenans, and Maidus).

I've always been drawn and attracted to Native American culture, music, and dancing. I had a DNA test done through Ancestry.com thinking maybe it was something in my DNA. No, I'm just a wannabe. But I think it's a way of acknowledging that our modern way of life has alienated us from the natural world. However, we have not tamed nature and we are still at its mercy.

I can't forget my first powwow I went to it was on a Friday night up at Rosebud in South Dakota . and that night was cold . and the second one was at the fairgrounds on the same reservation and it was in honor of that served and my dad got to fold up a flag with a natived vet and both of them joined as one big family and that was his welcome home. Then my last one was on the grounds that I helped raked up grass that was thick . what I did I was on a mission trip for a week . I'm part natived American as well I have some black foot and some Lakota in me. These powwows are really special to me.
