Powder Coat Oven Build Part 4

In this video we finally assemble the oven! The control panel is installed and the control panel hardware is installed. Last the conduit and wiring is run from the oven to the control panel. Be sure to check out Part 5 which is dedicated entirely to wiring the control panel!

You have a plasma cutter. I have a waterjet same deal though. Make a beauty ring for the over cut hole and call it good. I have to do it from time to time myself. Lifetime ship interior builder here.

Love the build! Why not using contactors for the elements? They're like $25 ea and add an extra layer of safety.

I think with the digital relays it's an either or, I would have to go back and take a look at my layout to be sure. It was my first crack at building an oven and I was following a pretty ridgid plan. In hindsight I would have used a propane burner instead of electric heating elements if I could only make one change.

I got lost with the electronics o.O So much stuff, wow... why 2 temperature controlers?

There is only one PID which is the actual temperature controller, the other square in the door is the timer. If you're talking about the two solid state relays that send power to the heating elements it's because they are rated for 40A each, this oven runs 34A and I didn't want to tax the relays running that close to their rated capacity. This also leaves me room to add a few more heating elements if I want down the road but I doubt that will happen. Primarily it was just to soften the load on the relays.

How many watts have the resistors?

The only resistors I can think of in this build are the heating elements. They are 2000w each, there are four of them so the total is 8000 watts.

What wattage did you end up with and current draw? 50amp breaker?

I'm running a 60A breaker on 6AWG wire, my current draw with the oven running full tilt boogy is 34 amps. Altogether that is roughly 7500 watts. The 2000W heating elements I got are actually pulling about 1850 watts each.

Hm, okay, I was wondering if those things pulled what they said they did. I was going to get 3 3300watt ones one in back one on each side. Nice job and thanks.

@@Mauldropper508. I think the ones I got were GE rated at 2000W, it probably varies slightly from brand to brand and depending on your wiring. Good luck! It's satisfying when you finish it.
