Powder on Les Courtes NE face* | Chamonix 2024 (ski mountaineering)

Day for a dream line - Les Courtes (3856 m) NE face
Long aproach over Argentiere Basin to the bottom of the face. Great views on many surrounding lines. Succesfully over bergschrund and than a lot of hard work breaking a trail in front on this steep face. We teamed up with Spanish crew. It was deep even for the ascending plates. Higher up our progress was slow, more than hip deep with plates on. Weather wasn't as forecasted, visibility went to almost zero. We decided it is time to turn around 200 verticals before top of the line. We all though it will be dream skiing as snow was soo good. But in such a low visibility it was hard to ski. Instead of big fast freeride turns we skied slowly and tried too keep balance. At the bottom of the face we get some visibility. For the finish of the day we race against time to catch last gondola on Grands Montets skiresort.
For sure this almost 1000 m face is still in our mind and we will come back to ski it in better conditions. Next year? sleeping on Argentiere Basin🙂
