Powder is addicting. Several years ago, I started doing little stuff for my own motorcycles and ended up building a strong part time business. So strong that I’m retiring from my day job and taking it full time next month. Some tips: If you are going to be doing more, buy a better gun. I recommend the Columbia Coatings Hyper Smooth systems. You can get a great gun for well under $1k that will last you a very long time. 2: Sharp edges cause power to pull away, which is why you didn’t get good initial coverage on the base piece. Also, and you caught this, turn your air down. 4-8psi is good for most applications. Use the diffusers and spray somewhat perpendicular instead of straight on. This helps slow the air and lets you direct the powder to where you want it. Build thickness: Too thin and you’ll get light spots, grainy finish and/or tight orange peel. Took thick and get runs/sags, edge building or picture framing and wide orange peel (especially on flat surfaces) Best of Luck and I hope your channel continues to grow. I’ve been really enjoying your content. Steve

To answer some of the questions you had . You do start your bake time when the part reaches temp. which depends on cure schedule of powder. The silver edge is due to the sharp edges of your parts, if you lightly sand the edges you won't have the silver edges.
@kevinpalmer313212 күн бұрын
Pre hearing the part immediately prior to powder coating IS a requisite then? And at what temperature?

Honestly, I think it turned out really well. I have been looking at prismatic powder for a while now and I think you just pushed me that little bit to finally just make the purchase. You’re killing the uploads lately brotha man.

I had several Powder Guns also. I still have 2 Eastwood guns, which are very good for the money. LOL , And I thought I was the only one ever Shocked by Gun! It hurts. more like a DC voltage. My first Eastwood was defective, and I didn't know it. I couldn't get 8 inches away, and that sucker would jump out and get the metal, but also me! I had to drop it. Eastwood has a button you push to turn on gun electric static. I thought I was being smart and taped mine in ,so it would be on all the time. I had the electric plug in hooked to a light switch, so I would through the light switch on, and the plugin would be on . but I got too close with my right ear one tip reaching over metal I was powdering, and they sucker jumped out and got my ear like 30 times before I could get away from it ! I no longer taped my button in anymore, and understood what it was really for. lol Saying all this. to say I bought a Kool Kat Quik Shot gun for $124.99 shipped! It does not hook up to electric!! It creates static when powder flows through the gun. It has a short ground wire to put on part. but I have outside earth ground hooked up to my part hanger, so I don't use ground wire on gun. This gun is the best I have ever seen. It came from Columbia Coatings. No more getting shocked ! I can get as close as I want and the air adjuster works so well, I just verily open it. saves powder. I can now put powder over other powder or second coat with ease. The Eastwood didn't like second coats, or it wouldn't get up in corners very well. but the new gun does it all and it s cheap price. check it out.. Nice video.. but had to laugh when someone else got shocked and it wasn't me..

Hey Dave, you said the gun you liked from Columbia Coatings was the Kool Kat Quick Shot, but on their website I see the Kool Koat System for 10 times as much. Can you clarify with any additional info?

Hey off topic, but what do you do for an uneven bed? Mine is slightly off, about 1 inch higher in the back on one side. You seem to know your shit so figured I'd ask here haha
@JUSTINHAWKSMITH3 жыл бұрын
I have seen people use washers to space the bed , maybe previous owner or someone spaced it ? Or maybe you could ad some spacers to front , but may throw off cab-bed body lines… could also be your frame of truck has ever been rear ended… not sure I’m not a huge body work guy… hard to tell without seeing it in person man… hope this helps thanks for watching!
