Powell is essentially doubling down on the idea that the dollar is going to remain the world’s reserve currency, despite all the hype around Bitcoin and gold. I mean, I get it from his perspective. The dollar is backed by the U.S. government and our financial systems, but a lot of people are still leaning toward gold and Bitcoin as alternatives
@rodgertim2881Ай бұрын
I think Powell’s got a point though. Both gold and Bitcoin are extremely volatile. Gold has been considered a store of value for centuries, but it doesn’t generate income. And Bitcoin well, we all know how much it swings.
@John-vf8qeАй бұрын
It’s hard to consider either of them as a real alternative to the stability of the dollar, especially when the dollar has such global influence.
@LoydJohnson-kp3jvАй бұрын
That’s true. Gold and Bitcoin have their appeal, but they don’t have the same stability or widespread trust as the dollar. Powell is trying to reinforce the idea that fiat currency, especially the U.S. dollar, is backed by economic systems, regulations, and trust
@CarlAcevedo-sc3blАй бұрын
With gold and Bitcoin, there’s no central authority, no one to back them if things go south.
@RandyColby-mj1zmАй бұрын
Right, but isn’t that part of the appeal for a lot of people? The decentralization of Bitcoin, in particular, is what draws investors. They see it as a hedge against inflation, against government policies they might not agree with. And gold has always been a “safe haven” asset during times of uncertainty
@Watersbill89Ай бұрын
The market's rise after Trump's win is surprising given the economic uncertainty. While some stocks, like Al-focused ones, look strong long-term, the volatility makes me cautious. Even B!tcoin is seeing a boost, but it's tough to predict where things are heading with inflation and interest rates. Staying cautious but watching for opportunities.

The gold was of better use in high value products in the economy, like computers, instead of under people's beds. @@that_heretic So why did the greatest economic and technological growth that actually benefited the ordinary person (railroad, internal combusion engine, aeroplanes, electricity, telephone and so on and so on) come during the time of the Gold Standard? New tech today is all for control of people, not their benefit and it's determined almost solely by oligarchy and governments. Gold was hoarded ONLY when there were runs on the banks, who extended too much credit in their typical fraudulent manner against their reserves and those went bad after the 1929 crash and European bank failures. It was basically an engineered credit bubble and bust to steal the people's real money. It worked a treat. Now, under fraudulent fiat currency regime sine early 70s, we have the greatest credit bubble in history in a hollowed out, deindustrialised gig economy and when the rug is pulled, no doubt a high tech, maximum control 'CBDC' solution will be offered.
@davebellamy4867Ай бұрын
@@that_hereticSo now if you are right, we have the same problem now. Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies are being hoarded and almost never spent. Under the Gold Standard, this didn't happen until the financial crash and bank runs of 1932-1933. As this crypto hoarding increases, it will send the velocity of fiat currency to near zero. Therefore the governments will have to ban or steal these new "stores of value" in the way that Execurive Order 6102 ordered the subjects of the USA to turn in the gold in 1933, at a fixed price that they determined on threat of ten years in jail. You have the same problem with crypto now as you sid with gold in 1933 - only much worse because crypto is being hoarded almost in its entirety from the start and that was not true for gold, except in times of extreme financial distress.
@samuelgaver7757Ай бұрын
Any fiat currency can and will go to zero and gold will not. So how is it possible to say gold is not a store of value? Also when Andrew Jackson cancelled the national bank and paid off the national debt there was a long period of unparalleled prosperity in the country. These two historic occurrences are hardy ever connected.
@user-Old_BenАй бұрын
Yes! Leverage (debt) and degenerate leverage (gambling on borrowed money) can become very destructive to any economy. At some point the big banks realized if they lose money, their stock price goes down. If they "default", they realize that the ENTIRE SYSTEM WOULD COLLAPSE ... say maybe around 2007, this realization hit. They - the large banks - being greedy pigs, also realized the USFEDGOV would not allow a full on collapse, yet this may be the worst outcome as now the BANKS have privatized profits and socalized the risk! This is fully diabolical! The BANKS know they can make huge bets and make lots of money - or make huge bets and "lose it all and then some" and Uncle Sam will most likely bail them ALL out... with TAX PAYER funs and FUTURE TAX PAYER FUNDS AND FUTURE FUTURE FUTURE TAX PAYER FUNDS!!! Dissolve The Federal (not) Reserve (none)! They are an illegal NGO and not fit for any purpose - anymore! - Restore The Republics!!

Bitcoin is NOT a competitor to gold, its a way for speculators to gamble. In that regard, it's more like a stock. Gold 's a competitor to the DOLLAR! So, what he's trying to do is pit Bitcoin against Gold, to try and lower Golds value. In doing this, he removes gold's threat to the dollar and sends speculators (gamblers) dumping their money into Bitcoin, hence helping him achieve his other goal of lowering inflation. If money is dumping into Bitcoin, that takes money out of the circulation, hence lowers inflation. Gold is a safe haven asset, it is NOT speculative. Powell is a CRIMINAL!!

You are both such gentlemen. Here in Texas we'd say; Powell couldn't pour piss from a boot with the instructions on the heel. Best case, Powell makes the data FIT his flawed models.

Could you explain, perhaps in a video, how/why and who manipulates the gold market. I am by no means a sophisticated investor, so I don’t fully understand how a futures call manipulates the gold market. Thanks.

The value of money is what the majority of the population assigns to it. The paper dollar is just paper until it is assigned a value and validated with an official printed seal of government or bank which backs it. In essence the paper dollar has a value psychologically imprinted on the psych of individuals. Money is a human a creation in the mind. Without these imprint concepts a piece of paper is just paper and a gold bar is a gold bar without any assigned value. The value of goods and services are monetized and assigned a value. This monetization is now being tokenized in blockchain as a means to transfer and track the "value" of goods and services. To escape the matrix of the economic system one has understand the psychology of money created by the powers that be to trap and enslave us to work for and spend dollars, gold, silver and assets.

I remember a person who worked for The Fed saying that whilst she worked for The Fed they did not ever mention Gold. In other words if you are an employee of the fed thou shalt not talk or even mention gold.

Was Powell inferring the paper Dollar was a store of value? Someone should have asked Powell if the entire M1 money supply was all in the form of silver dollars how would the US population have done compared to his Fed notes?
@jsmdifyАй бұрын
The term store of value has no agreed upon definition amongst those interested in money or economics. Nothing perpetually meets the definition most people think of which is some kind of asset that retains its value against other items that individuals desire, regardless of the time or circumstances. Gold does not do that. Bitcoin does not do that and the dollar certainly does not do that. That does not mean gold and bitcoin aren’t desirable to own and hold, but one has to endure fluctuations in their value against other assets.

Bitcoin is a competitor to gold, because instead of investors who want something outside the dollar, instead of going to gold-silver, are going to Bitcoin. Imagine if the private sector instead put that investment into gold and silver? Isn't that wonderful for the banks? Things that make you go hmmm when you see it...

If Gold is not a threat to the US dollar, why was the dollar backed by Gold and what happened to the dollar after Nixon removed the benchmark, and why are Central Bankers the biggest purchases of GOLD and why has the FED classified GOLD as a TIER 1 asset as same category as the dollar and why did Rosevelt make it illegal to own gold?

Price of gold in 1973: ~$35/oz. Not a store of value? compared to what, seriously. The value of the dollar compared to gold over the last 50 years has done what... yeah exactly. Just since 2018 when the central banks declared gold a tier 1 asset again, gold was $1242 at that meeting just six years ago. Gold now, $2,600+ // Thanks for discussing these facts during your video. Still waiting for the silver market manipulation sometime the next 1-3 years (jmo from mining declines and constant demand). What are they going to do when they have no more product to manipulate?
