Good job! I've never used nails or screws like that. It looks like it works! August right now and something is eating my wife's chickens.......coyotes I'm guessing. Six in one night, so that makes me think raccoons....I don't know. I hate to trap them this time of the year, but got to do something!
@stepfracturemaster85566 жыл бұрын
Muskrat Outdoors yep...just finished a job that a lady had coyote and foxes taking her chickens...hated putting them down...but I picked up 300 plus acres for this yr...take the good with the bad
@MuskratOutdoors6 жыл бұрын
Sometimes there just is no other way. And gaining trapping ground is always a plus. I put a few snares in the fence line where I have caught them before, but I think they might be coming in a different way. Hard to use foot traps here, she has too many chickens, ducks and turkeys. Horses, mules and burros too, but they would be OK, just sprung traps. I'll put a camera out tonight and see if I can figure out for sure what it is.
@stepfracturemaster85566 жыл бұрын
Muskrat Outdoors let me know my friend...you have my curiosity at a high level
@MuskratOutdoors6 жыл бұрын
I will for sure! I really don't know what it could be. Raccoons usually eat the heads off, coyotes and fox pack 'em off.......it could be a skunk, but there are no drag marks in powdered dusty dirt. Too many chicken tracks but didn't find any others. I'll put out ome dog food and a camera tonight. Along with some live traps.
@MuskratOutdoors6 жыл бұрын
Ya know....I was noticing tonight most of our rabbits are gone too. My wife brought home three that were all supposed to be the same sex. We had about twenty running around loose......now I only see one.

Good video, really appreciate your time and approach. Just curious if you would do the same thing in 2-3 feet of snow or would you set in packed snow on wax dirt or wax paper. My wolf trapping area is in deep snow.
@stepfracturemaster85567 жыл бұрын
Idaho 2nd Gens wow! Never experienced extreme conditions like that. The wax dirt method would work on a wind swept area....I would use the wax paper in your seriously deep snow. I've never trapped wolves or in crazy conditions like that. I wish I could be of more help brother....I would love to try and catch a wolf....that must be the ultimate rush!!!
@idaho2ndgens2407 жыл бұрын
I have been struggling with the deep snow, trying to keep my four No. 9's clear as the snow settled a lot after I put the pee posts out. Went up today for trap check to the bait pile, the wolves are close, about 1 mile across a stream from my sets. I had to redo them last check as the snow was too deep for quick fire. A couple really big wolves in the pack, I hope to snag. I have snares out too. Thanks a bunch for your video. I am going to try some wax dirt.
@stepfracturemaster85567 жыл бұрын
Idaho 2nd Gens good luck...let me us know if it works for you
@wilE67646 жыл бұрын
what about baiting the snare for a few weeks before you set it?
@taekwondotime5 жыл бұрын
How does that trap work? It doesn't even look like it's under any tension. I thought you had to step down on these traps to pry them apart so that they can spring shut.
@stepfracturemaster85565 жыл бұрын
The "loose" jaw is under zero tension...the jaw the dog is over has all the tension. You can step on both ears, or push them down by hand to set the trap... I just had the trap staked and pre set to shorten the video

If someone saw me doing that on their ground I would be booted instantly... not going to tell someone that are wrong but I hope your no where near anywhere where tires are gonna be... there are better ways to bed traps... I wouldn't reccomend this one. Make your bed different and it will be damn near rock solid without the need for any fasteners. Happy trapping.
@stepfracturemaster85566 жыл бұрын
If you watched the whole video...you would have seen that the fasteners freeze rock solid in the ground...this is not for normal weather conditions...we all know how to bed traps in good ground...and I also mentioned to please ensure to removed all screws when finished...but of course that's just common sense...happy trapping to you, as well

I'm mushroom hunting in a bad coyote spot i can smell piss all down the creek banks huge dens everywhere and just found a deer they got ahold of there's nothing left they picked it clean
@torinklotz64836 жыл бұрын
I will often have trouble with traps freezing to the ground especially when it gets -20 or colder I've had them freeze so bed they wouldn't fire and had to chip it out with an ax and thaw it before it would spring. if it gets up to -1 or 0 with the sun out it will melt the snow or ground moisture and freeze in a couple hours
@stepfracturemaster85566 жыл бұрын
Absolutely...even dry dirt will draw moisture from underneath and freeze...wax dirt seems to be the best thing when it comes to battling mother nature...its not fool proof obviously...you still have to battle top layer freezing at times...but it definitely keeps you in the game
