Power BI Organizational Hierarchy or Chart of Accounts with Parent child functions in DAX

Great video on COA hierarchies. A pity that Microsoft Power BI does not have this as a first class feature of the tool. Hierarchies are everywhere and it should not be difficult to create a parent-child hierarchy. I love RADACAD videos. Keep up the good work !!

This technique is very use full in case you have one table with all information. What if you want to filter Headcount and Termination tables at a same time with one slicer ? Please guide

Hello , If you need to embed this report into an application where employeeID will be passed to this report and report should show both parents and child’s of the employee record that is opened in the application.

Thanks! some visuals give you the ability to filter it. but remember; blanks are the data of that member itself only not with direct reports.

depends on the source I may suggest another way; for example; if SQL Server database is a source, CTE queries are a good way to do that

@@RADACAD Thank you. That's helpful. Source is Azure synapse, with read only access, thought of doing this in power query. Also can loop through to add new columns based on the path count (Max path items is 18)., Instead of adding them manually.. any suggestions?

112|23|18|1 As per my understanding when we use PATH function, 112 denotes the Org Lvl 1 and 23 denotes Org Lvl 2 and so on. Can this be bi-directional like below, 1|18|23|112 1 denotes last Org Lvl N and 18 denotes Org Lvl N-1 and so on. Basically I want to have Child-Parent Hierarchy. The reason he if one persons belongs to 2 difference regions how we can take care of this using PATH function. Basically what I need is Child-Parent relationship instead of Parent-Child relation ship.

Excelent video. Cant you hide blanks? But not all the row, only the levels of the row with no report (blanks)

You can set a filter to be not blank

@@ulises3610 Filtering always filters the entire row. If you want to just filter a value, you should not be using filtering, just use replace in Power Query, or similar to that a function in DAX to replace blanks with a default value.
