Power BI Update - December 2023

We’ve got a lot of great features this month. Here are some key highlights:

We've made lots of improvement for reporting, for example there are many more options for styling your column and bar charts.
If you are a fan of our PowerPoint add-in, you'll be happy to know we've made it easier to find and insert Power BI content into your PowerPoint presentations.

Thank you for your answer. I installed this version. After installing the December version, I cannot open more than one previously created report at a time. To fully use the new version, I must first open an empty report and then use the "open" option to select the report saved in the older version. Is this normal behavior or maybe an error?

Glad to see that the "classic" option will be available alongside the on-object interaction option. I also appreciate additional in line educational resources, but maintain that those are only necessary because the new UI isn't intuitive.

Appreciate all the work that has gone into the on object formatting, but I still feel like the original panes options were superior. It's great that you are allowing people to choose, however the major issue I find is that "Collapse" doesn't truly collapse the pane, it closes it. Would love to see the pane collapse the way the "filter" pane does and the way the panes originally used to. I find atm that the panes close and then it's pretty much trial and error clicking buttons till I get the pane I need.

​@@GrantHartleyBrown I sincerely don't understand what you don't like about Ryan's style of presenting. If you don't like the voice or smth like that - it's not really what you can change. But the way of presenting the update in general for me is basically same, main features as before are being explained by responsible specialists with shared desktop - that's most important part

This version is awesome. As an enhancement, I think it would be beneficial to have a more generalized approach to conditional formatting. Not just for specific visuals or for certain use cases of visuals. For instance, when using the line and clustered column chart, there's no option for conditional formatting when multiple columns or lines are involved. Also, for slicers, there's no way to set default values in the classic version of the slicer. Thank you so much for the great work !

I think that bar chart column outline setting is useless unless it can be connected to a fx(measure). I am just wandering what is page resolution set for the report in the back? There is lot of space for visuals. Deafault page size is different i guess. I am just courious

I noticed in the data pane that it looks like there is the ability to mark tables as favorites to push them to the top of the list, and at the 3:44 mark there is a view of the tables expanded which appears to allow favoriting of columns. Is that something I missed previously, or is it something that hasn't been released yet? I don't see any mention of it in the blog post.

my guess is they just included the star icon in the table names. you can tell because 3 of the tables had 2 spaces between star and table name, but the 4th only had 1 space. i noticed the same thing you did, so i was looking closely at it!

Looks awesome. I was dissappointed that there were no mention of bug fixes with the new slicer button - images displayed in servce but not on desktop; shared Sharepoint images are not visible by others; filter selections do not "stick" .... it was a mess. I'm hoping these are in-fact resolved.

Hello Microsoft I am not able to select preview features in my power bi desktop when I select the feature it gets deselect every time and in conditional formatting there is on ok and cancellation button plzz help how I can fix it

Just out of interest, why do you specifically want this? Do you do something with the version numbers (rather than the month and year) somewhere?

@@RichardOliver yes some times I download the update twice in a month and have my IT department update the file because of admin rights so I dont have to do it twice and with the vesion number i can just wait till the version with the updates is ready for download.

why not update more features for the power query area which I know Microsoft doing updates for power query, but it is a very powerful tool and super helpful. just an suggestion and idea if that is possible to update.

Is there any way to create repotee views eg if I select the managers name it should show the employee details of selected manager

You can do this with Row Level Security (RLS) if you want the manager to only see the employees that they are manager of, however, your data source has to be designed correctly to enable this to work. Another scenario is if you want to drill-down from manager to employee instead you could use a hierarchy, but I think your scenario is RLS based.

FOR THE LOVE OF GOD LOOK AT EXCEL AND DO THE SAME AND THEN INNOVATE, THE BASIC IN MANY THINGS IS NOT BEING DONE. THEY HIRED A FRONT-END WEB DEVELOPER TO MAKE THE SYSTEM. WHICH EXCEL DEVELOPERS SKILL IS JUST FOR THE SAME TOGETHER WITH A WEB-DEVELOPER. The presentation itself often had to use third-party visuals.
