Hi Jay, we will be back in January for the BAD BOATS.💪

I have been a marine mechanic/ tech for the last 58 years and been involved with the racing as well years ago but I have just seen something that's a new idea, to me, a solid jack shaft between the motor and vee drive with no universal's. That alignment must be absolutely precise. Beautiful boats. Obviously a lot more money around now than in the past.

Yes some major investment in these top teams, I have to look for the boat your taking about.

@@AstillDesign This will test the memory bank. Just to name a few. Bob Anderson in a 308 Hydro??? Bruce Peak, Barry Web and Norm day were the Eastern Chev original operators, Ian Harvey, " Srceamin' Eagle 42 stock displacement, Archie Robertson, " Shadrach " blown Hemi Chrysler unlimited displacement, Les Spear, Holley blown BBC the poor bugger got run over the top at Yarrawonga 19?? Pete Smith UHPBC, I can't think of the boat name. It was Pete who went over the top of Les around the pit corner. I think from memory that Les' Vee drive seized and Smithy was right up his ginger and the shit hit the fan. Now there's the Les Spears Memorial Trophy. Bruce Thugar, The Piece,, Wow, what a weapon that was. Huge twin turbo BIG cube's, first outing it blew the Aeroplane into the bank at Yarrawonga. It was awesome, never seen anything like it until the Fuller Tunnel from S.A came over and there was nothing that would even blow wind up it's arse. It's name was " Villan ". Big MerCruiser stern drive and went like shit out of a shanghai. I started my apprenticeship back in 1969 at Petterson River Marina in Carrum and we would get some of the offshore boys coming in sometmes and one fellow was Fred Williams from Williams Water Skis and he had this American hull with a Hemi Chrysler in it on an OMC leg. but that was a ski racer and I think that was the first factory stern drive race boat in the country. All of a sudden Mercury were starting to supply transom Ass's and drives to people to put in boats but they were using their own engines and a lot of failures came about because of set up and alignments so then Mercury decided they wouldn't split the units up and got into Racing in a huge way and now look at them. There's a huge history on all of this. I have now retired and I still get the hackles standing up when I hear any hot boat. Even the little 4 cylinder hydros use to go like they had a scrub bull up their arse, they were awesome little rockets. In fact the original boat name 'Ruff Nut " was a hydro with a twin cam Offenhauser head and mechanical fuel injection. The engine was originally in a Ford Cortina and it was one of those Lotus bottom ends with the Offenhauser top running gear.

I used to watch these boats at Paynesville "gold cup" every year. Back then, the man to beat was Brian McCosker in "Liberty" he was very fast, reliable and his boat simply screamed that little bit sweeter than the rest. Unfortunately the sport took his life and if Im not mistaken, his death was a big contributer to these boats adopting the capsules that offshore Racers had been using for only a few years at the time. "Tuff-eNuff" is I think owned by an SA family now, but back then it was owned by a Paynesville local, Tony Walsh, Who was a freaking maniac! He campaigned the boat as the appropriately named "Loose Cannon" and it ran without a rear wing, it was loose, and he never lifted... even when the boat was jumping and bucking waaaay out of shape! It was out of control, loud, dangerous and VERY spectacular.
