Power Outage At 7th Street Metro Center Station

As it was seen on a Facebook post by Metro Los Angeles (LA Metro), a piece of rigid catenary wiring fell off the ceiling along with some of the supports broken off. This resulted in rail service disruption with the A (Blue) and E (Expo/Gold) lines between 7th Street/Metro Center and Pico stations. This also might have resulted the power outage inside 7th/MC station's light rail platforms. Hopefully LA Metro fixes the catenary wiring soon. I want more new cab ride videos of the new Regional Connector tunnel, especially from a Siemens P2000 train on the A Line from Long Beach to Azusa.

I'm surprised the train's interior lighting didn't black out and go dark.

pretty sure the overhead wires are on a separate power source.

@@unstableatoms3456 More than likely the overhead catenary wires are on a separate power source 750 volts DC current. Otherwise the train's interior lighting would have blacked out and the trains wouldn't be able to run at all. Just a handful of emergency battery lighting would have been lit.

@@theghostofmrcow1985 Yeah but if the trains did run on diesel in subways, the then the gas would get trapped inside the station causing unhealthy air quality

Of course the subway stations look very different when the lights are off. It seems rare to come across a subway train station going through a power outage in person

Does this power outage affect the overhead wires for the trains?

Yes it does. The train in order to work it needs power from the over head power lines

It was because a piece of rigid catenary wiring (it powers the trains) fell off the ceiling on that track, so trains had to share tracks from 7th Street/Metro Center station to Pico until it was fixed.

I wish metro would get those diesel light rail vehicles. Way better than electric light rail vehicles.

@@SuperheroJunior Diesel in a subway is a problem because of the fumes. Electric light rail is usually pretty dependable if it's maintained properly.

​@SuperheroJunior It is better to have electrict trains. The issue is maintance and maybe if they used thrid rail as opposed to catenary, it would be better.
