We prefer Petzl Zipka headlamps for lighting - wherever you go the light is going with you. These are small an operate with usb chargeable replaceable battery or 2xAAA. The price is affordable, and we have many around the house at hand's reach.

I have lots of Ryobi tools and many batteries. Ryobi sells several lights that use my batteries. I charge the batteries with a 120 watt solar panel. With a few lights i can light several rooms for several days. Other cordless tool makers sell lights besides Ryobi. So that 2000 watts are going run that battery down in a half hour. Its not a 2000 watt-hours system. The battery decides the watt-hours, the inverter determines the watts it will provide to loads. I have a similar unit by another company. Plug your refrigerator into this and expect it to last maybe 12 hours. Do the math 1050 kWh by the load to be powered and you get the time you’ll have power. Adding batteries increases the time not the load that is limited by the inverter.

Larry - thank you for your informative videos - I just watched this one on KZbin on my tv.. I don't always understand amps, watts, etc. but trust that if you recommend a product I can look at purchasing it. I am going to get the radio. The recent tornado that went through Cole (east of me) and Etowah (north of me) Oklahoma knocked out my power. I had the flash lights but had no radio communication. It was a horrible feeling! I would appreciate it if you could do a review on battery powered tv's. Spent all my childhood vacations in Peoria - still have family there.

You are so welcome, Angela. So sorry you had to go through power outages. The Kaito radio will come in handy for the next. I don't currently own a portable HD TV. "Antenna Man" has done some reviews on them. From what I understand they don't have very good picture quality. What we do is run our 47" Samsung TV from a portable power station. Hope this helps.

Having been off the electrical grid for years, this more of less sums up our day to day life… I also buy rechargable AA and AAA batteries for our cheaper lanterns and headlamps too, as well as out many smaller power banks. We keep an eye out and buy the power banks whenever they go on sale, with regular use they only last a few years, but it’s significantly less expensive than buying name brand “disposable” batteries
@larryware1
@larryware1 Жыл бұрын
Yes. Rechargeable batteries save a lot on buying the disposable ones. Most lithium batteries are good to about 300 - 500 charges. Most of the power stations use lithium iron phosphate batteries which can cycle up to 3500 recharges.

I don't understand how the power units work. How do you keep it charged? Is it always plugged in using your home's electricity to be able to work when needed? If fully charged, this unit can only power a fridge (not other items) for a day and a half? I want to make sure I am understanding correctly. Thanks for your help!
@kimmer6
@kimmer6 Жыл бұрын
It's a lithium battery pack with built in charger and inverter. Charge it up to 100% and put the charger away. The unit will stay charged for months, ready for use. It puts out 120 volts, 12 volts and USB 5 volts. It will power a home fridge for over a day. The unit will also accept power charging from solar panels. It can be used indoors right in the kitchen and gives off no fumes or noise like a generator. If you are without power for a week, this unit can be recharged in 4 hours with a small gasoline powered generator in the daytime so you can run it silently all night.

@@truthseeker6370 We had a 3 day power outage in 2021. It was a dreadfully hot week with peak temperatures between 102 and 110 degrees F. My power backup unit kept the fridge and freezer running and allowed me to sleep in front of a box fan. I was thankful for it. Most of the neighbors had to throw away everything spoiled in the fridge. In March of this year, we lost power 4 times thanks to terrible rain storms and flooding. It was cold and the unit powered my electric blanket as the central furnace was dead. Power backup is very useful to me.
@larryware1
@larryware1 Жыл бұрын
Hi, Truthseeker. You can charge it from the line current with the adaptor I showed in the video, the car cord that comes with it (very slow), or solar panels. You don't have to keep it hooked up to power. It will store the power for months. It's like your cell phone or computer in the way it discharges and charges. Hope this helps.

I heard something this week about them wanting to get rid of am radio…? It’s very important to have it for emergency purposes isn’t it?
@UndertheMedian
@UndertheMedian Жыл бұрын
We heard that, too. Part of the problem is that the entire EBS (emergency broadcast system) is based on AM radio stations. Each area has a local AM radio station that is designated for EBS usage. In the event of a national emergency, by law that one station will stay on the air and all other stations would sign off the air. The whole idea is that if information comes from a single source in any given area that it will reduce confusion and conflicting information. To my knowledge the system of using AM radio have never been changed. So, getting rid of AM radio stations would involve revamping the entire system - which has been in place since the late 1940's. In our opinion, AM radio will not go away any time soon.

Do they have one to power an RV?
@gabor.legrady
@gabor.legrady Жыл бұрын
I think it really depends on the RV itself (if it has some 12V lights and a small fridge it's not impossible - but if it has cooling/heating that eats up lots of power.). I recommend talking to a professional. Also, I would recommend finding someone owning the device and test it out - real world data is the best.
@larryware1
@larryware1 Жыл бұрын
I would contact Pecron with that question. I don't see any with the typical 30A connector that most RV units use. They do have a 3,000 watt unit but it just has your standard AC outlets.
