Day 274.
Today, amid freezing cold conditions we have the latest updates on the power outages across Ukraine after massive Russian strikes. We also discuss the latest US military aid package and look in detail at a grumpy CSTO meeting in Yerevan, Armenia, in the context of Russia’s fast declining influence in Central Asia.

I just have to say that it's hilarious to see the Closed Captions for this video typing out the word 'criminal' every time that the the word 'Kremlin' is used by the brilliantly informative James Kilner. What a fatal transcription by machine that is! Could not be more apt, even if by mistake!

Just to add a little comment...in Canada there's a company used to build the bank vehicules. ..they're now making vehicules for Ukraine. They put a feeler out with that information and are employing 25 or 30 Ukrainian refugees at the moment to weld and stuff. It's a win win win. They feel like they're helping in the war effort, they get paid so can send some money back in Ukraine to family and afford to stay here, employer has very motivated staff and the army gets strong vehicules.

I hope those 200 generators are big. That seems like not enough for millions in a blackout.
@Chironex_Fleckeri

It's likely the sort that can power hospitals. Like those large diesel generators that are the size of a van. That is what I had in mind. It better not be 200 small generators that can power a few appliances each. I don't think so. That effort may be secret, but I think the idea may be to create hubs where people can warm, get food, medical care, etc. This seems less straining on the war effort in that it won't require as much effort to supply them vs. distributing 300,000 small generators and the parts and fuel needed to keep them going.
@OAlem
@OAlem Жыл бұрын
@@Chironex_Fleckeri Thanks for answering. I've just pulled this up. Military-grade, ideally. The TEP program consists of a variety of generator set sizes. Small Generators: 2kW Military Tactical Generators (MTG), 3 kW Tactical Quiet Generators (TQG), Small Tactical Electric Power (STEP); Medium Generators: 5, 10, 15, 30 and 60 kW TQGs; Advanced Medium Mobile Power Sources (AMMPS), trailer-mounted Power Units and Power Plants; Large Generators: 100-200 kW TQGs, Large Advanced Mobile Power Sources (LAMPS); 840kW Deployable Power Generation and Distribution System (DPGDS); Power Distribution: Power Distribution Illumination System Electrical (PDISE) and Management and Distribution Control (microgrid intelligent power management and distribution). The STEP, AMMPS and LAMPS are the third generation of mobile electric power generation systems and will replace the TQG over time.

Well personally i think this war is too costly both in terms of Ukrainian lives , and indeed Russian lives , I do not see this weakening the Russians one bit, in fact they are actually becoming stronger , both in terms of their military prowess as their soldiers are becoming hardened and their military techniques better equipped even if they are getting others including the Chinese and Iranians to help them out , and only a fool would discount the Chinese being a major player in this even though openly it is the Iranians getting the blame. The Russians have large stocks of capital in gold etc to buy what they want. The economic war is not hurting them as much as the Yanks make out in fact its hurting us as consumers in the west . Continuing on with this dum war whilst we should be concentrating on climate change is completely folly we need a statesman to sort this out now and get a peace agreement one which is observed instead of Minisk which was not observed , because if it doesn't happen this is going to drag on and on until we go into world war 3 with nukes flying . Even if Putin goes and watching him i see him fairly restrained and a deep thinker , we are likely to end up with more of a hawk who may not be so restrained.

As cities in Ukraine lose electricity, the sanitary water systems will shut down. That, along with substandard heating means diseases like pneumonia and dysentery will arrive, run wild, and millions will need to evacuate the cities. EU countries should be preparing for an influx of at least 5 million people. This will be rough on the weak and the elderly of course, but it is a difficult situation all around. The sooner they start peace talk, the better.

question from South Carolina, in the US: Along the line of thought of prosecuting war crimes, can frozen Russian funds be directed toward war reparations? Is there legal precedent for that?
@RobBCactive
@RobBCactive Жыл бұрын
There are moves being made to allow that, it's part of the reason the European Parliament declared the RF a terrorist state and the UN General Assembly vote to hold the RF liable for reparations. Various countries were impounding luxury yachts and looking at this idea. I am not sure there's a solid legal path, though there's many working on it.

I think that the Russian soldiers in Belarus have three purposes. 1 Prevent the current regime from falling 2 training, after spending the winter training in Belarus the Russians will have some competent troops for a summer offensive who havent been demoralised by fighting Ukraine with hopeless odds. 3 threaten Ukraine but not attack in order to tie up Ukrainian forces

If Russia still exists by then. The mother's have mobilized and that movement could snowball over winter. More mobilized soldiers mothers and wives are mobilizing themselves. They actually called out Putin publicly for not having them at the meeting he had with 'mothers' which were all hand picked women instead... Mother's protecting their sons are a formidable army and I'm guessing won't be so easy PR wise for Putin to arrest and jail for protesting!

@@livinglifeonlifesterms2450 It's more effective militarily for Ukraine to use its artillery and missiles to target Russian troops in Ukraine. NATO has been reluctant to supply Ukraine with long range weapons due to the risk of escalation so there may be an agreement that Ukraine will not use such weapons against Russia, or at least not target Russian civilian targets.
