I had to come back to comment because I’m so surprised how well this method works! My production went down again after my second mastitis. I started yesterday morning with 1 power pump session and production was 185ml. I pumped 3 other times that day for 20 minutes as I usually do. This morning I power pumped again and production was 290ml. Still have to see how it goes the rest of the day. But I’m already extremely impressed about this difference. My low production gave me so much anxiety. Thank you so much for sharing!

Been exclusively breastfeeding my baby for 5 months. She recently started solids and my supply has dropped in what seems like overnight. Baby has slightly less wet nappies (plenty poos though) but I knew my supply had dipped since my let down is usually within seconds but took about 5 mins to start. I don’t hear my babys deep swallowing like usual just small gulps. Definitely trying this to build my supply back up 🙏
@MommaNurse
@MommaNurse 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, definitely give this a try. While baby is eating solids go ahead and pump to make up for the loss. This will help keep the supply rather than losing it. Keep in mind also that beginning solids will alter the output (urine and poop) but you want to make sure baby is still hydrated and getting enough nutrients. Good luck 👍🏾

My baby is definitely getting enough milk from each feed (I can tell by weight gain and diapers) but I’ve been trying to start a frozen milk stash for when I need to be somewhere without him or so dad can start bonding with feeds as well and honestly the most I’ve ever gotten was 2oz out of both boobs and that was basically a miracle. I’m definitely gonna try this

My baby is 4 months old and I've been successfully pumping/breastfeeding till just a few days ago when my supply inexplicably decreased. I'm FREAKING OUT and have been trying all the tips. Drinking more water, eating more oatmeal, adding a pumping session, breast massage, supplements. I have yet to try power pumping and I really hope it works. Thanks for this video! I see my supply decreasing because honestly I’m not drinking enough water or eating enough, now that my baby is home I find myself just worried if she’s eating. After watching this video I’ll be trying out pumper pumping, & I also ordered brownies off of the Milky Mama website... Thank you for this. My baby is 2+ weeks old and I struggle to produce 1+ oz/day. I don't understand how other moms can produce like 1 liter/day. My baby is mixed feeding rn but I'd really like to have her on breastmilk exclusively. I've tried everything including organic milkmaid tea, moringga, fenugreek, sunflower lecithin (when my ducts were clogged with colostrum), lots of soup, water..... I guess this is my last hope, waiting to see results..
@MommaNurse
@MommaNurse 2 жыл бұрын
Be careful with fenugreek, some mothers have the opposite result with that (less milk production instead of more). Definitely give this a try, be consistent. Being that your supply is so low I would recommend 2 power pump sessions a day (if possible), if not then just do the 1. Also, check out my video on my overnight snack that also helped me increase my supply.

Thank you for this video. I have always breastfed but I had a micro-preemie born at 25+2 eleven days ago. At first my supply seemed adequate but I've noticed my supply tanking everyday over the last 4 days. Pumping is different from breastfeeding and comes with different difficulties. I'm going to try this.

I am actually very sad because my baby isn't gaining too much:( I was very upset about myself not producing enough for him. But as I just pumped, I have 4 Oz from both breasts :( I'm so stressed about it. His pediatrician suggested me to pump and add some formula into breast milk. I hope my baby gains weight soon !

Good info! Just to add to this wonderful info, what is important to remember is that adequate removal of breast milk is key, either from breastfeeding, hand expressing or pumping. Power pumping is great, however pumping in excess can also cause problem if the pumping parents stimulates breast and does not keep up with it as milk supply will increase, and if not consistent with removal of milk, this can trigger plugged ducts, or other breast issues. Always, get the support of lactation consultant if available, there are many breastfeeding resources and lactation clinic for support. Great educational video.

I’ve power pumped two nights on a row so far. Honestly hard during the day to do so because I also have a 8 year old special needs child. Should I pump more if I can ? Or is night time ok?. Any suggestions are awesome!. I’m back to eating normally and drinking plenty of water (all I drink actually). Any chance you can get to pump would be great, but if you cannot then just do your power pump sessions at night. If you can get in a quick 10-15 min pump session during the day that would be great to help you build your milk stash (I also have a video on this, check it out). All the milk you pump try to store it and only nurse baby, this will help build your supply and stash.

@MommaNurse

No problem. Yes, that is correct. By doing it for 7 days (max 3weeks) it trains the body and milk receptors to produce more milk, and should continue to produce even if you stop power pumping after you've seen an increase. After that pump on your regular schedule. If you do notice a decrease at any time again in the future you can begin your 7day count again and power pump again.

When power pumping do you stay in the let down mode each time you pump or do you shift between let down/massage and expression mode?
@MommaNurse
@MommaNurse 2 жыл бұрын
Preferably stay in the let down mode. The reason for this is because you want your milk ducts to think that it’s baby starting a new session. By starting these “new sessions” it works to produce more milk by increasing the demand. However, it will not hurt anything by being in the massage/expression mode.

@MommaNurse
@MommaNurse 2 жыл бұрын
Yes power pumping will still help. You can always build up your milk stash for later as well. It is very hard to go from bottle feeding back to breast. It has to do with the ease the baby gets from the nipple on a bottle because it's typically wider so they get their milk easier. I would recommend noting when baby is the most hungry during the day...typically first morning feed or at bedtime, try to use those times to incorporate a nursing feed (breastfeed session) slowly until baby is use to it.

Very good question. Your breast supply milk on demand. So if you pump before your baby nurses then your body will think that your pumping session is the baby. Then When it’s time for your baby to nurse, your body will naturally think baby is hungry again, resulting in your body producing more milk to supply your baby. The more you pump or nurse tells your body to produce more milk. I don’t bottle feed my babies, until I go back to work then dad will bottle feed, I avoid it if possible.

@MommaNurse
@MommaNurse 2 жыл бұрын
I would recommend pumping every 1-2 hours (don’t tire yourself out) for 15 mins per session. If you do decide to Power Pump twice a day then I would recommend an early morning session and a night session, that way it is spaced out. But, it is definitely ok to do only one Power Pump session per day. Or you can alternate days, 1 session Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and 2 sessions Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday. On Sunday, either do 1 session or rest. With re-lactating you will have to be both consistent and patient. It will take a while for the milk to come back. Just keep eating (healthy) milk producing foods, and drinking plenty of water along with above recommendations. Good luck 👍🏾

Like having a set schedule for pumping? Sometimes I have to go out and that interferes with a pumping session, so sometimes I can go 6 hrs straight without pumping. I think thatmight be messing with my production? What to do when you go out and cannot pump for many hours in a row? Because in my mind that messes up any schedule you might have had. Thanks so much!

Yes, those things definitely affect your supply and pump schedule. What I try to do is schedule things around my pump sessions. If I cannot then as soon as I am able to, I pump. It's ok to skip a session here and there but consistently missing sessions is what affects your supply. I try to pump around the same time, but sometimes I'm off by an hour or two, depending on when the baby wakes up and nurses.

Hi, thank you so much for this video. I'm struggling a lot to increase my milk supply for my baby. I have questions about power pumping. The time for pumping, 20 minute for one or two boobs? I just use one pumping machine by the way.

No problem, I’m glad you were able to find this video useful. For the 20 minute session it is for both breasts if you are using a double pump (1 breast if you are using a single pump). I discuss in great detail two different methods of using a single pump in my eBook available at www.themommanurseshop.com. Hope this helps ❤️

My favorite thus far is the Medela Freestyle. Easy to use and lasted 4 years straight pumping for 3 different babies.

Hi Mommanurse. Thank you for this video. Is the 20 mins pumping for both breast ( so ill do 10 mins each for the 20 mins pumping)? And the next 10 mins pumping will be 5 mins each for each breast? I only have one breast pump.. Hoping for your reply. Thank you!

Hi, so yes the instructions provided in this video is for a double pump session. If you are using a single pump you will still want to follow the same time schedule for each breast however you would either alternate the break periods to pump the other breast OR you can do two separate sessions. I discuss different methods of using a single pump in my Power Pump ebook available at www.themommanurseshop.com I hope this helps and thanks for watching ❤️❤️❤️

Hi dear...Thanks for this informative video. Got a question...Do we need to power pump for 1hr on each breast?
@MommaNurse
@MommaNurse 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, 1 hour per breast. But, if you have a double pump you can power pump BOTH breasts in the same hour (simultaneously).

How many times w day should you power pump?
@MommaNurse
@MommaNurse 3 жыл бұрын
1 power pump session a day is sufficient. Some people do 2...but I see results with just 1 session. Plus 1 session is easier to commit to.

Hello I am re-lactated . It’s been 4 months without breastfeeding my baby was a premi and because she was so tiny she never latch . I stared 4 days ago and I been pumping and nothing comes out I did power pump for 3 days . Do you think I’m dry ? 😔

Hi, definitely Keep going. Re-lactating takes quite a while but, can be very rewarding if you follow through. Keep up with your dietary intake and continue to power pump as well.

Thank you for this video! I've been exclusively nursing, but my 4mo is slightly underweight so want to increase my supply. O just started pumping 3 days ago. I have a question, I barley produce any milk while pumping. The 20 minutes on, is this just keeping the pump on even if no milk is coming out? And do I leave it on the let down mode or the expression mode? Thank you!

You are very welcome. Congrats on your new bundle of joy. Since you just began pumping it will take some time for your milk ducts to increase the supply based on the demand. Keep going until you start seeing milk, even though you cannot see any milk right now you are doing the right thing by increasing the demand for milk. Yes, for the 20 minutes on keep it on even if you do not get any milk. Continue for the whole hour (following the schedule) even if you do not see any milk. It’s preferred that you stay in let down mode because you want your breasts to think these are all new sessions.

Does power pumping work for everyone as far as milk supply increase?

I can't speak for everyone, but if the proper technique is followed you should see an increase. As long as there are no other contributing factors.

Power Pumping should be able to help. Now, with the information provided there may not be a big increase however, you will only know if you try. Also, make sure you have milk producing foods in your diet. If you need assistance with some milk producing food options you can check out my Milk Producing Foods checklist that includes a FREE recipe at www.themommanurseshop.com I hope this helps and thanks for watching ❤️❤️❤️

My baby is 11 months and I had a hospital visit made me anxious and want to build my freezer supply again. I’m very full in the morning but I don’t know if I should pump and take that milk since my baby fully drains them in that first feed. I don’t wanna steal her milk. But I’m not seeming to get a let down with the pump. Definitely feeling anxious before pumping. Feeling stressed and overwhelmed. Even though I exclusively BF I don’t need this milk but in case of emergency I do. 😩

I would recommend doing either an early morning power pump session or maybe an early afternoon session. With consistency and frequency you will hopefully start to see milk let down. Don't be discouraged with the first couple sessions, it started out slow but then will pick up in let down.

Also try breast massages and or warm compresses before and during your pump session. Increase your water intake and your calories (especially right before that pump session). Having a milk stash is an awesome thing, it helps out in those times when you aren't available and even when you wean off the breast you still have breast milk to feed baby for long after. Check out my How to Build a Milk Stash video for more tips on building your stash.
