The reasoning they went with a "space" theme instead of following the theme of Megaranger is Toei sent them a compilation of fight footage to give Saban an Idea so they could start writing it earlier than previous seasons. It had them on the galaxy gliders, the megazord, etc. so the writers thought it was space themed and were frustrated when they got the finished episode tapes because they had already started planning the theme of the USA version

I agree, its like headcanon to cver the plot hole but make senses S1 shows in a brief flashback em MMPR that Zordon physical body should be the good wizard from Zyuranger ( NOT the blue alien from comics..) , so we know he has a physical body at some point...the writters probably forgot about it or are not able to take de costume and just hoped we forgot about it. So i think what you saymake sense, it take too much time and he became spirit or energy being that posssed the tube..maybe it has something about him linking himself to the morphing grid too

18:00 The mega vehicles are supposed to represent Space vehicles. mega-V5 is a moon tank. Mega-V4 is a U.F.O., mega-V4 is a rocket, Mega-V2 is a space shuttle. And Mega-V1, my favorite, is suppose to represent an E.V.A. spacesuit like those used by NASA astronauts when they exited the space shuttle to fix satelittes, etc... Mega Voyager did appear too early and you'll notice that it gets used like only in 1 in 3 episode until the Psycho Rangers arrive. That's because in Japan, the Mega Voyager arrived much later. In fact, Mega Silver was the one who built the Mega Voyager which is why his Mega Winger is later able to detached his wings and give them to the Mega Voyager. Fun Fact: Mega Voyager is the only Megazord who doesn't change name from the japanese to the american version

If memory serves, I believe the team for Power Rangers was given a lower budget for In Space since Turbo was such a bust. Yes, I wish we saw some more familiar faces from previous seasons towards the end of the series when the universe was in EXTREME danger. However, they pretty much did the best with what they had for one of the BEST seasons of the show's history. Though there are some filler episodes that could've been removed and replaced with episodes with a bit more substance.

Billy was supposed to be on the last episode as the phantom ranger. The plan was for the Phantom ranger to take off his helmet, and be Billy, but the show ran out of time to explain that. They thought for him to be that ranger, they would need another episode to explain that. The network did not give the creator enough time to explain that.

Well, Selwyn Ward was allowed to shine more as an actor when he took over as the Red Turbo Ranger in the second half of Turbo. So, that explains a lot. Plus, we needed a new character to be revealed that he is the original Red Ranger of the newer season because Andros had already lead of team of Space Power Rangers in the past before he made TJ, Carlos, Ashley and Cassie part of the team.

My understanding is that Zordon 's body is trapped in the tube, he is trapped in the tube in a morphing grid energy form. If the tube fails his form reverts to a dying physical body. Also I believe it is stated that every ranger we ever knew is spread through out the universe. Many on earth, some on other planets. They are fighting and losing on all fronts we just don't see it all on camera, just know it is happening.

The space shuttle can combine with the astro megaship because it was built to. In Turbo, they imply that Zordon was in contact with NASADA to build it. It's sort of why theres the joke of Zordon having a million backup plans.

Just to add my two cents about Zordon and the confusion of why he's still trapped in a tube despite Larigot sending him to Eltar, as I understood it when I watched it, the tube actually contained Zordon's spirit/soul in raw energy form, and the ghostly head that manifested when he was talking was just that, essentially his ghost. Breaking the tube unleashed the raw magical energy of his actual spirit, essentially his very essence, into the universe. I took the time warp as a necessity to keep his spirit from scattering on its own, basically locking the spirit down to the present time.

I loved megaranger and the final 3 part ending was so good and was a big moment for the franchise since Sentai doesn't have the rangers have secret identities so Megaranger was one of those few series to have the rangers have secret identities, so when they had their identities revealed in episode 49, it was such a big moment that it made the rangers not want to continue being rangers cause the whole world doesn't want to put their lives in the hand of teenagers. I haven't seen Turboranger yet as that was the first high school season in sentai so they might have had the rangers have their identities revealed at the end of that season.

Fun fact: originally all villains were going to be purified, but do to time constraints as count down to destruction was supposed to be 3 parts instead of just 2, only rita , zedd and divatox were purified , rito revolto was also going to appear and be purified but his costume was in disrepair and he was cut out if the finale.

Thunderbirds was powerful in Japan, so I understand the inspiration. I was thinking about that. Thunderbirds seems like a really old precursor to Power Rangers, as they share a number of similarities. Five members of a team with technologically advanced vehicles go to save people and fight against a mysterious opponent (more so in PR than The Hood in Thunderbirds). They have to keep their identities secret so no one steals their powers/vehicles.

Fun fact, the sound for the Tradis, from Doctor Who, was also used in Megaranger. And the English text, used in the morphing sequence for both series, are album titles from a band, named Electronic.

This has been a good show so far, granted I got to watching this after getting done with Linkara's History of Power Rangers playlist, and this has been a nice additive to the Power Rangers deep dive I have been on lately.

Way I always figured it, Zordon IS the energy in the tube, contained within it so that he doesn't disperse like he did at the end of this series. The image is a manifestation that he can project onto the inside of the tube so he can interact with people. Whether that's the form he's always existed in or just the form he takes in the Power Rangers dimension, under that dimension's physics, I can't know, but that would explain a lot. If he is an interdimensional being he can't be perfectly suited to every dimension he visits. Supporting the idea that he's energy, he's able to just give of himself to the Rangers several times in the form of energy, and doing it too much will use him up. Also he says once that the morphing grid is sustained by his struggle, via the Rangers, with the various evil forces (he says Zed specifically, but that's just because the Zed was the baddie at the time). This implies that he could be energy just as the grid itself is. Maybe he's even a sentient projection of the grid, or a being who was changed by it so completely that he doesn't resemble his original self anymore. The grid is another dimension after all so being from there, or having visited there, would make him interdimensional. Meanwhile the time warp is simply how they describe a time-space sink that trapped him in that one location on Earth, hence why the power chamber had to be underneath the command center. Freeing him from the time warp just allowed him to move between different containment units somewhat freely, and he was trapped similarly and bound to the specific containment tube that the villains used to threaten him.

Either that or he was reimprisoned in the time warp, but considering the finale, probably the former.

I recommend to watch the vs movies in order as it makes more sense in order then watching before you watch the season. So for this case you should have reviewed the megaranger vs gingaman after you watch gingaman so you are not as confused. This starts to become important when you get to seasons in the 2000s where the vs movies start to become more canon.

I think Megaranger's finale is the biggest damning thing about it, which is a shame when everything else about the show is good, and as said elsewhere, is the REAL saving grace of 90s Sentai, not Carranger. It's probably the worst example I've seen in toku of "ungrateful citizens who deserve to be stomped on by all the giant monsters". A kid gets hurt in the crossfire, the heroes are publicly revealed as his classmates in the process of their asses having gotten kicked, and all of Tokyo turns on them. As if most toku citizens don't already have a perfectionist hair trigger, they unload it all ON FIVE HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS WHO'D BEEN BREAKING THEIR BACKS SAVING THEIR UNGRATEFUL ASSES FOR AN ENTIRE YEAR. What's worse is that in toku, all the citizens get to do if they're not running is cheer in droves. That's why that hilariously comical scene in Ryukendo is simultaneously amazing. In Space, though? Execution is wonky (it didn't take long for the people sans Bulk to think the Rangers abandoned them) but unlike the Japanese toku populace, they stand their ground, pulling an "I'm Spartacus" at risk of their lives, and then actively join the last stand brawl, since they have nothing else to lose. And this is a recurring thing in the differences between the civilian population of PR vs all of toku. Is this a cultural thing? I don't know

Well how would you feel if you had entrusted the fate of the world to 5 high school students and not 5 trained military soldiers. You would get pissed. Plus it was a big moment for the Megarangers to where the whole city loves them to hating their guts. You would feel puzzled like the Megarangers. Would you give up being a Megaranger just because the city hates you or would you continue being a Megaranger knowing the consequences? It’s a great multipart finale to Megaranger that works.

That reaction to knowing your heroes are high school kids only works if they knew that the heroes that were GOING to save them from this new threat are kids. Yes, if the knew from the start that their new protectors were underage youths, they would feel annoyed. Except, but it's been one whole year. By now, they should no longer doubt that, whoever they turned out to be, these five had been doing their damnest, risking THEIR young lives, for everyone else. If anything, what should follow the people's horror that their heroes are just kids are admiration that these young'uns have been saving their skins time and again. Also, you're assuming I said the Megarangers SHOULD have abandoned these people. Maybe they could've, if they were lesser in character, and the people of Tokyo would kinda deserve being abandoned for throwing their heroes under the bus. But they're not going to leave the people, coz the Megarangers are good kids, good people. That's why they're heroes. Even if the world unjustifiably hates them for the stupidest of reasons, they will still save those people. If nothing else, that's what makes the Megarangers better human beings than the ungrateful dumbasses who easily turn on them for the shallowest of reasons. It's a good finale...but the starting premise is ridiculously stupid. The citizens in X-Men stories are more justified in their mindless hate than these metropolitan morons.

This video is what i needed in life. As a die-hard Zordon-era Power Rangers fan and a recent Mega Ranger super fan i can absolutely agree with everything you said. I was completely sold on the season when they played Mars. Although you described Megaranger as "mega", i would honestly describe the season as simply..."charming". The only thing i'd really add is how powerful Miku's character development became. Her tears wrecked me every time. Like the kid from the boy who cried wolf episode, Miku actually became my favorite ranger of the season. Although she wasn't the strongest ranger..."Miku is Miku!"

I can understand the people as there are many cultural differences between the original and the adaptation which is basically why Power Rangers was born in the first place instead of Sentai being dubbed.But I can fairly recommend to watch Sentai as a former PR fan (good childhood haha). The problem with Power Rangers adapting is compared to the original Sentais that through adaptation, rewriting and a different Setting for the franchise, that there are too many errors and plotholes and unexplained things happening which makes the franchise go worse as it goes on over the years without it aging well.For In Space it is the nonsense plots around the Psycho Rangers Arc when the Psychos would try to look for the rangers "secret" identities trough voices or communication device ALTHOUGH their boss Astronema and her generals are well aware of the Rangers identities actually and could have simply told them, but no tey have to translate the whole Sentai episode plot.

I met Johnny Yong Bosch and brought up the Zeo powers, he said they filmed the Zeo powers being destroy by shorting out in water in the Turbo movie, but the scene was cut. They show this (sort of) when Kat morphs while falling, clearly starts to transform, but is then shown not morphed. So the Zeo powers were meant to have been destroyed, they just didn't show it.

On the Ninja Powers being destroyed (and why nobody uses the Dino Coins like Adam does): If the Dinozords can't be upgraded into the Thunderzords anymore, why would they use the original Dinosaur powers? No more Dino or Thunder Zords. No Ninja Zords obviously since they don't have the proper coins. So how would they protect themselves without Zords? Even then, Dino Coins are weaker than Ninja Coins, so they'd have a way harder time defeating monsters... all things considered, swapping to Zeo powers was in fact the best decision, even if the former powers COULD be restored like.. however Adam's Mastodon Power Coin was restored. If anything, the Rangers using restored Power Coins would have to be a backup / assisting team. Which would actually be kind of cool but wasn't the point of the tangent in the video.

@40:40 No she hadn't. Though it would have been nice to see a team-up. Let's not forget the original three left because of pay reasons. So bringing all those rangers back for one episode + considering the costs of in space season, it would have no doubt been extra, and unnecessarily expensive. Perhaps not in hind-sight, but at the time, I don't think they would have done all this without knowing the series would be around 30+ years later. And before anyone tries to correct me, let's wait and see if power rangers will still be around in 4 years from now, and think about what I said about "hind-sight." I think it will.

Here’s how Zordon works (as far as I’m aware): Zordon used to be a mortal Eltarian (footage of Barza from Zyuranger is used to portray Zordon in a flashback), and Rita imprisoned him in a time warp after the war that got her sealed in her space dumpster. Zordon remained outside of normal time, with the technology of the Command Center/Power Chamber tethering him to our timeline (this is more apparent in the comics). When Lerigot freed him, he did have a physical form of some sort, but immediately beamed to Eltar and witnessed the power transfer via hologram (sort of like how Dimitria would interact with the rangers). Before the events of In Space, Zordon is captured by Dark Specter during a war on Eltar and confined to an energy tube. At this point his physical form is in the tube, so when Andros destroys the tube, it kills Zordon

I think they always had him in the tube, in theory at least, because they never really had a concept of what he'd look like without it (the only time we see him outside of one is in a photograph from his younger years, and thats just his Zyuranger counterpart), and its just what we know him as.

The reason they didn't bring back other past rangers to the show is because typically when a ranger swaps out it's because the actor wants to leave the show for one reason or another. Meaning they don't bring back other past rangers because they cannot convince the actor to come back to reprise the roll.

If you think the thing with the ninja turtles breathing in space is bad. Wait until you get to Forever Red in Wild Force. 9 of the 10 Rangers unmorphed on the moon and they don’t float away or instantly die. You just have suspend you belief in real science. Zordon says gone not destroyed and he is talking about the original Dino and Thunder Powers because if you listened to Tommy’s narration at the beginning of Zeo he specifically says that the Ninja Powers, and Zords are back in the temple with Ninjor. Which is why Rocky is able to use those powers in Dimensions in Danger. He and the others use the Zeo powers in Legendary Battle. Thuy Trang passed away in 2001 during Time Force.
