Power Ranger fans rejoice because the Green Ranger has made his triumphant return in Boom! Comics, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #55. Although it hasn’t been confirmed who the new Green Ranger is, fans have speculated that it’s the evil Lord Drakkon, an alternate timeline Tommy Oliver.
If you watched our previous CBR Power Rangers video, you know that Jonathan Entwistle is in the process of rebooting our colorful heroes, and this reboot will reportedly feature time travel. If that’s the case, then issue #55, along with the groundbreaking comic series Shattered Grid, are the perfect stories to adapt to the big screen and give us what we want. A return of the true Green Ranger Tommy Oliver.
This Tommy will be different from the one we know. Lord Drakkon was a tyrant who ruled with an iron fist. In his universe, he obtained and fused the power of the Green Dragon and White Tiger power coins which gave him unbelievable power. Like always, the Rangers defied the odds and were able to put a temporary stop to Drakkon’s evil ways not once but twice. However, now that he’s back and assisting the Rangers is Drakkon accepting his second chance or is there something else up his sleeve? In today's CBR video, we will answer this question and more by breaking down who Lord Drakkon is as a person, ruler, and ranger to get ready for his eventual return to the big screen. One of the most compelling aspects of Tommy Oliver as a character is him struggling with his past demons. I honestly think if the 2017 movie did adapt Green With Evil as the basis for a sequel it would have made more money than the first film. I don't really see a problem with the 2017 film. Sure, it had its flaws but it was still entertaining and it managed to flesh the characters out more. It wasn't a totally outright bad film.

Chances are if Tommy Oliver is going to appear in the next Power Rangers movie, it won't be Jason David Frank that plays him, that role will have to be given to a younger actor handling that role.

I actually really enjoyed the 2017 film... It had its flaws but I like how all 5 of the rangers were real people with real-life issues that they all had to overcome in order to be the heroes that no one, including themselves, thought they could be. To me, it was a combination of the breakfast club and PR lore and I thought it really worked. The sequel to that movie would have been so dope 🤦‍♂️Hopefully we get some form of continuation in the future.

I genuinely feel like it'll end up going the way of the 2012 Dredd movie. Eventually being a fondly remembered cult classic that did almost everything right but never got the dues or the sequel it deserved. The mishandled marketing is likely a big part of that; As well as the zord and monster redesigns going a bit too far rendering them unrecognizable as the characters they were supposed to be.

Hasbro has been thinking of a Transformers/Power Rangers crossover movie since they bought the rights to Power Rangers. How would you feel about that? I personally (as a lifelong fan to both franchises) would love it. Imagine seeing the M.M.P.R. Megazord versus Volcanus (in Transformers Combiner Wars, the Dinobots could combine into Volcanus) or the Turbo Megazord vs Menasor (the Decepticon combiner force known as The Stunticons, combined to form Menasor), the Train Megazord could fight the T.F. combiner that was all trains... The list is endless. Only difficult aspect would be the ground combat. Only Transformers remotely humansized are the Minicons or Hatchlings. Sure you can use the Minicons that get enslaved by the Decepticon forces as the catalyst to where the Rangers fight. But they (the Rangers) I don't think could destroy any Minicons. Not in that form. But if you made them WILLINGLY fight for the Decepticons, then yes. Sorry to have driven you mad with my thoughts. But would you think that idea could work?

@@Cr7edits117 not 100% sure what you mean. I've been a fan of Transformers since Generation 1 back in 1984. As a kid. Then as a teen M.M.P.R. was released. And when HASBRO announced the purchase to the rights to P.R. my mind started working on possibilities. They are endless with Zords vs Transformers. But as I said. Minicons and Bayverse Hatchlings are pretty much the only real humansized Transformers. Sure you have Laserbeak in Dark of the Moon, Ravage in Revenge of the Fallen, and Rumble/Frenzy in the first Transformers (Live Action.) movie. But these would be based off the cassettes that Soundwave (introduced first in Revenge of the Fallen) would eject when he was the cassette player back in the 80's originally. The other smaller ones we've seen (Wheelie for example) were in Bayverse just as the character says, a salvage scrap drone. So sentient yes. But not considered the same league as the others. The kitchen appliance drones were just on a seek and deliver of the shard from the AllSpark. But in the 80's out of that group Wheelie was humansized yes. But a child and to a lot of fans, a very annoying child. Rhyming all speech. ("You get ship if I get trip." Is one line.) This stuff isn't copied or pasted. All memory observed from over 30 years of Transformers shows, movies, comics, books, and figures collected. The P.R. info is more recently watched as after the original P.R. switched from Zeo to Turbo, that was the last season I watched, till the abomination of a remake movie came out. So I got back to watching the other shows. But this time with my nephew who liked the shows that were more recent, so we watched M.M.P.R. up to that Dino Thunder one. In order. I tried introducing him to the TFormers universe to show him things I thought he would like. But the G1 show (84-87/88) didn't interest him beyond any episode with the combiner characters. He liked the combiners.

I agree. Rebooting the franchise all over again is going to divide fans. The 2017 film wasn't perfect but that's with anything. Nothing is 100% perfect. If a sequel had been made it could have possibly exceeded the original in the amount of money made off of it. Making a Power Rangers movie that is overly cheesy is not going to bring in a lot of viewers in my opinion also. The show has not been in the best shape since the Neo Saban era started.

What people need to realize is that Tommy didn’t come in until the second season, So when they were going to put him in the second movie I agreed with that that made sense they should’ve just continued it the only thing that I didn’t like about the last Power Ranger movie was the suit other than that the story was great it was the way I always imagined it to be for the word on to be part of the original Power Ranger group and all of it

Technically Tommy appeared in Season 1 about 10 episodes or so into it when Rita revealed she had the Dragon Coin the whole time due to her rivalry with Zordon thousands of years prior to the 1st episode and used it as a trump card and selected the one who rivaled Jason's own ability as Jason was the strongest among the rangers and could fight Goldar in a one on one fight. When she realized this, thats when she made Tommy the new green ranger. In fact, out of all of Rita's and Lord Zedd's plots against the Rangers in every season or movie they were in, Rita's creation of the green ranger was the greatest but as we all know, Lord Zedd continued her work of destroying his power and did so more efficiently as the green ranger was the strongest ranger when fully powered due to his dragon shield (Aka the gold vest) being able to act as a barrier when the dragon dagger was used in unison with it. Unfortnately the green ranger's successor, the white ranger, didnt share this ability but supposedly, according to Zordon....the white ranger was incorruptible unlike the green ranger which made it impossible for Zedd to use the same trick on Tommy that Rita did in Season 1 if he wanted to try that route again.

I see what you mean. The odd part is he does morph into the Red Turbo Ranger in the Soul of the Dragon comic. I guess it has something to do with TJ being the second Red Turbo Ranger but still I now understand your point. Having a bunch of Power Coins is very different from the regular Turbo morpher. Adam and Zack have both been able to morph into the Black Ranger in different team up episodes. Jason and Rocky have done the same. The situation really should be no different for the Turbo power set.

I'm sure the movie from Entwistle will have some ideas from the comics. They talk about OG rangers and time travel. Maybe a Ranger Sentry from the future travels to MMPR era to assassinate Tommy Oliver and end up becoming allies as the threat from the future has followed the Sentry. Borrowing elements from Terminator of course.

Honestly I'm tired of Tommy oversaturation. There are other rangers just as important. We've had rangers die for the cause (Kendrix, Magna Defender), rangers with more compelling backstories (Eric, Cam) teams that were really underdeveloped and could use better writing (Megaforce, Alien/Aquitae, Ninja Steel), teams we haven't seen in a while (Ninja Storm and Dino Thunder). I don't want just the Tommy Oilver show featuring the Power Rangers, aka season two of MMPR.

Just imagine...Phase 1 Stage 1- Introduction of the Rangers and the defeat of Rita Repulsive. Stage 2- Revenge of the Evil Green Ranger and introduction of Lord Zed. Stage 3- Tommy becomes the white Ranger, and together with the team defeat Lord Zed in an Epic Battle. Phase 2 Stage 1- Tommy was corrupted when Zed was defeated and fused his White Tiger Coin with the Green Dragon Coin becoming Lord Drakkon. Stage 2- The Rangers quest to gather the Zeo Crystals to stop lord Drakkon. Stage 3- Power Rangers vs Lord Drakkon You can add the evil rangers some where in there jajajaja
