Gosh, I wish Power Rangers had a more dire, mature, and dark tone to it’s shows 😩 I would have never stopped watching. I went through the originals, zeo, turbo, space, galaxy, rescue, timeforce- started falling off with wild force, ninja storm, clapped back with Dino Thunder, and capped it off with SPD and didn’t give Mystic Force a chance 😩 I was born in 93’.

Trini died after being off the show ! she & a friend were driving they lost control of the vehicle Trini wasn’t wearing her seatbelt which could have saved her life Trini was paralyzed & in a wheelchair same as her friend her friend also paralyzed in a wheelchair Trini died from her injuries but the other lady survived but still paralyzed from the car accident ! i don’t know how many years or months it’s been since Trini was written of the show but she died on September 3, 2001 Trini’s friend that was with them on the trip survived but still was paralyzed from the crash

Totally a side note but I always felt that Trini was Jason's second in command. To me it seemed as if she was the one making the overall decision when Jason wasn't around or in the group split up. Maybe I was wrong but that is how I saw it. At least until Tommy joined them then it felt like him and Jason bounced back and forth.

From what I remember from the dialogue in episode white light part 2. Zordon did indicate that Tommy was the new leader because he was now more powerful then the others. This was not indicated directly but rather casually revealed. However the reason was not strange or unexplained. Also if Jason didn't see anything wrong with Zordon's choice why should we?

The real reason Tommy became the new leader is because the actor and character was more popular lol And it wouldn't have made sense to keep Jason the leader when you have a completely different costume look for the white ranger. It just made simple sense to make the white ranger (if they were going to include it regardless of Tommy coming back) the new leader. And in my personal opinion, the only characters that really stuck out were Tommy and Kimberly. Maybe even Billy. Which is why Jason, Trini, and Zack were expendable and later replaced. Clearly their absence had no affect on the show. But it would have been awesome if they did bring them back for a storyline like the video to explain their abrupt leave. Just my two cents. Maybe they'll do a live action series again or several movies (like Saban wanted to do originally with the 2018 film) that will showcase this more in depth.

The dialog was changed due to the 3 already leaving the show. The original line was "the new 6th ranger" and changed to "leader".

@@supermanalexk The change could be for several reasons. Not necessary because of the last minute change. Lots of dialogue change in the script and filming process. You could be right. With the new unknowns taking their place, Tommy was the natural next leader. Anythings possible.

Tommy was meant to be the new second in command when he joined the team. We will never know a in universe response why Jason was happy for Tommy being the new leader when he came back as White Ranger, but the real life answer to that is that Austin, Walter and Thui left the show waaaaay before the two - parter White Light episodes debuted on television. The original three recorded all episodes after White Light but in reality they left sometime before when aired the episodes when Tommy was loosing his green powers for good, before the two - parter Green No More episodes. You can actually notice that they talked less, or used the same old ADR sessions of Zack's and Trini's voices, or used Brad Hawkins' ( this one i discovered recently by Austin himself ) voice as Jason in those episodes where Tommy was loosing his green powers forever, and later they used new voice actors for Zack and Trini for some parts where they were morphed, actually the new voice actors recorded only morphed Rangers, with a few exceptions here and there, because the original three left the show earlier even if they recorded all the scenes after the White Range's episodes. And i read somewhere that because of that, and it makes sense, they deleted Bob Manahan's voice lines, or Zordon's, and rerecorded a new line. That being the one where Zordon's saying « ... the new leader of the Power team », since Austin was gone from the show loooong after this episode aired. From a real life answer it makes sense, they wouldn't use a body double as a leader so they used Jason David Frank, now from in universe explanation we will never have that answer, like many other in universe unanswered questions this one is another one of them. Now.... I loved when they did that, putting a Sixth Ranger in charge, more than the Reds, and because of that i mixed things at the time thinking that the next Sixth were also leaders of their respective teams, they're not unfortunately, but i love them anyway, at least till Mystic Force bacause after that, Disney, Neo - Saban and Hasbro turned Sixth Rangers into nothing, they used to be badasses and stronger than the other five, or four members depending of the team, to the point that they were real rivals to the Reds and could match each other, or they're natural enemies, best friends or brothers, Sixth and Reds, that's why loved the Sixth Rangers. I wouldn't mind if they became the new leaders of each team, well... now i would because in the past few decades they not only became weaker and aren't in the spotlight along with the Reds anymore, Sentai also made them use the same colors over and over again to the point where now the Sixth is only Gold and Silver, and that annoys me. I would love them to be leaders at the time where they were badasses and had more variaty of colors, because a leader doesn't need to be red all of the time, every color can lead, and the Sixth were better candidates for that because they changed colors in each season, now they don't. But welcome to Sentai, they chose red. But funny enough i liked when Sentai also chose ( rare ) Big One, Ninja White, Time Pink and Zenkaizer as leaders of their teams, it's a new step... But doesn't last long enough. RED AGAIN...

For starters, I don't think there was ever a "second in command" when it comes to the show. I've been rewatching it and there's 0 evidence to support this idea. I do agree though the replacement of Jason as the leader does come out of left field in rewatch. I think from a production standpoint it made sense, and as a kid it never seemed odd to me (but to be fair I wasn't watching it on air I was watching through VHS and like pretty much the same ones over again) but like we (90s kids) were kids so like I don't think we really gave a shit. The title of leader felt very superfluous in the show I'd say once Tommy was introduced it became meaningless maybe before Jason felt more like a leader, but once Tommy was brought it he definitely felt like a sort of- co-leader, or like on the same level as he was a part of the team, but didn't quite feel a part of the team either, like he was his own boss just stepping in to lend a hand, so maybe in that way it makes sense he was just made leader. But I think when you know the production side of things it's easy to just get over it too? But yeah it is odd.

Nah. The video is wrong. There were a couple episodes where Red & White had to resolve their leadership/ comradery role. They resolved it because if they didn't they would have lost the fight. So after that fight they basically let whoever was best to lead that mission.
