Are you talking about the metal piece that is the magnetic release bait dropper or the fish finder that the ball looking piece that you can hand toss in the water?

I dont think you can do that, but I never tried it. I know I have taken the fish finder and attached it to the end of my rod with a bobber to locate fish.
