I had two power record comics as a kid. The Batman and Robin Versus The Joker and Spider Man versus Draco the Dragon Man. The art in both was beautiful. Especially the Neal Adams Joker. That story was also memorable because the Joker killed people in it with his poison that contorted their faces into a hideous smile. This was a return to the dark murderous Joker of the early 1940's and was a big change from the watered down version on the 1960's Batman TV show and on Saturday Cartoons! I admire Power Records and DC for allowing Neal Adams and Dick Giordano to show the Dark Knight Detective version of Batman that reemerged in the late sixties and early seventies in this format! There's a company that produces vinyl pressings of horror movie soundtracks that decided to do their own line of horror comics, each with their own 7" EP for a soundtrack to accompany the comic. The company is called Waxworks Records. Can't speak on the quality since I haven't picked them up yet, but it's sort of similar to this I guess.

Had 2 or 3 back in the day, Batman and Superman I believe. I loved them for years. When I got older I enjoyed the 'radio announcer' style the actors had. Very old school deep, resonant voices to give the impression of square-jawed heroes. really fun. now... how much for that Stan Lee turd?

Chris, your comic spinner rack is a nice touch! A few years ago I bought myself a white magazine spinner rack to serve the same purpose. At the time no one was producing comic racks. It's fun to periodically change out what's on display.

As of now, that mega-rare comic is still for sale on eBay, and the seller increased the price. It's also been confirmed that it is fake (in the picture you can see extra staple holes, indicating that he did replace the cover like you said), but oddly enough, that error was a real thing that happened. It's not really a collector's item, more like a weird trivia fact. That seems so bizarre. It's like someone counterfeiting an issue from The Clone Saga assuming that because people talk about it decades later that they'd actually pay good money for it, then selling that counterfeit issue for $250000 and being surprised that no one buys the thing.

Those "Star Trek" changes to Sulu and Uhura may have raised a few eyebrows among hardcore Trekkers, but I doubt anyone else would've batted an eye. There's an episode of Netflix's "The Toys that Made Us" covering the history of Star Trek toys, and there's a consistent pattern of companies not giving a hoot about remaining true to the spirit or content of the show itself. Then again, most of those other merchandise pieces at least, ahem, "color" Uhura and Sulu correctly. I don't know what Neal Adams' studio was thinking here. In fact, if I didn't know any better, I'd think they'd suddenly promoted Lieutenant Chapel to communications! As for the new guy at the conn, I always thought there must be a huge rotation of crew members at that position; it's not like Sulu can handle that console all the time, right?

Theoretically he does 8 hour shifts and he's only 1 of 3 people who man that console. We never see the night shift though. Mind you they're supposed to be the equivalent of a navy ship, so maybe it's two 12 hour shifts. I wonder who takes over for Kirk when he's sleeping?

What really gets me about those Star Trek comics is that Kirk, Spock and Bones are clearly all drawn from reference photos of their respective actors and look quite close to them in all panels. So it's not like the artists had never seen the show or had no idea what the cast looked like. I guess it's possible that they didn't have clearance to use the likenesses of Takei or Nichols, but...was there really no way for them to still draw them as an Asian man and a black woman, just not modeled specifically after the actors?

The artist of the book & record interior art and the Star Trek single cover art for "To Starve A Fleaver" appears to have confused Lt. Uhura with Lt. Palmer (Played by Elizabeth Rogers) in the episodes "The Doomsday Machine" and "The Way To Eden" But the artists of the back cover of the Star Trek Volume 1 album and the front cover of "The Crier In Emptiness" book and record more resembles Nichelle Nichols. Elizabeth Rogers' Wikipedia and IMDB pages have images of her as Lt. Palmer that strongly resemble the Power Records comic art. The art for Power Records' Star Trek: "Dinosaur Planet" and "The Robot Masters" resembles Nichelle Nichols. As for Sulu, I don't know if maybe there was an episode where he was replaced at the console by a black crewman while he was with the landing party or incapacitated in sick bay.

Graphic audio was fucking amazing!! Unfortunately not only does DC and marvel not work with them anymore, but you can't even find the old ones that they made! I used to have ALL of them downloaded and saved to a micro SD card in my phone. But then about a year ago I made the stupid mistake of factory resetting my phone which wiped the SD card and there all gone! I can't even find them anymore no matter how hard I try!

The Power Records albums had the Book & Record stories without the beeps. The only ones that don't have unbeeped versions are: Man-Thing: Night Of The Laughing Dead The Adventures Of Holo-Man Robin Hood 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea Robinson Crusoe Davy Crockett Huckleberry Finn Little Women A Story Of Dracula, The Wolfman & Frankenstein And although they are unbeeped, the Power Records singles that were not released on albums had to be turned over to continue the story causing a break in the action on titles like: The Monster Of Frankenstein Tomb Of Dracula: Terror In The Snow Werewolf By Night: The Curse Of The Werewolf Shazam!: The Mighty Dr. Illusion And from the albums: Star Trek: The Crier In Emptiness Batman: The Christmas Carol Caper Wonder Woman: The Secret Of The Magic Tiara Space 1999: Death's Other Dominion

Also, one of my earliest memories for my birthday was getting the Hulk Meego you showed in the video. I had many of these back in the 70's. There was a Hulk story I had with the record I really liked. There was also a 33rpm record of a an original Spider-man story I owned that had original songs on it and such to compliment the story. Great channel!

I think that Teen Titans / Marvel Two-In-One must be for real. It was graded by CGC. I'm not a fan of CGC and entombing comics in a plastic shell, never to be read again...but I'm pretty sure they could spot a fake. It's interesting to note that CGC calls this a New Teen Titans #6 with a Marvel Two-In-One interior, and not a Marvel Two-In-One #74 with a Teen Titans Cover?

Apparently it's been confirmed as a fake (the original staple holes can be seen). Bizarrely it's confirmed that such a misprint exists though. Presumably they wouldn't have tried to fake it if it wasn't already documented as a misprint that's in the wild.

I had that Spider-Man record with Man-Wolf as a 5-year old; I think I had a Batman one as well, but I remember the Spider-Man record, as I was absolutely terrified of the Man-Wolf for some reason and my parents had to take the record away, as I would listen to it, but cover up the panels of Man-Wolf with my hand as I read along. Ah, 5-year old me. So impressionable. Re: podcasts, I’m sure someone must have already mentioned the Wolverine podcast in the comments already. I haven’t listened to it myself, but it’s fully acted w/sound effects, and I’ve heard it’s quite good.

There is a fantastic comic series called Skin & Earth which is written and illustrated completely by the indie pop singer Lights. The first collected TPB and a hardcover version came out recently and last year her most recent album came out and each song was written in correlation to a certain section of each issue of the first 6. It is insanely well done and not only a great read/great listen individually, but listening while reading through it truly is a fulfilling experience. I recommend and hope you check it out, it was released through Dynamite comics.

Wolverine: The Long Night is being advertised as Marvel's first scripted Podcast. It will be free on iTunes September 12. From the audio trailer, it sounds like a murder mystery in Alaska. A local cop investigates missing women killed in the woods and it all leads back to Logan. The acting sounds great and I'm very excited to listen.

There was a American Godzilla lp from 1977 that was loosely based on the Marvel comics incarnation of the character. Titled Godzilla: King of the Monsters, it was produced by Wonderland Records, it was re-released in '98 to cash in with the awful '98 remake. The two episodes, Godzilla vs. the Alien Invasion and Godzilla vs. Amphibion can be found legally on KZbin and YT music.

I don't think that it was based on the Marvel Comics version, but it did use the cover art from Marvel's Godzilla, King Of The Monsters #1. Wonderland Records also produced albums for Emergency!, Baretta and The Bionic Woman who I think Power Records would have done a better job with like they did with The Six Million Dollar Man who at least mentioned Jaime Sommers at the end of the story "Operation Deep Freeze" on Volume 2 of Power Records' The Six Million Dollar Man.

I know this is an old video, but I felt the need to comment. Graphic Audio; an audio book company that makes production with full casts, sound effects and music, used to make Marvel and DC audio books based off of the comics. They haven't for a while so I assume the licensing fees have increased. But some of them are pretty good since the company's production is top notch.

I used to have two of comic - record combos, or to be precise the mexican spanish speaking translations of the Spiderman vs Draco man and one Star Trek one, these versions used the same voice actors that dubbed the Spiderman cartoon and the Star Trek series that were continously on reruns in Canal 5 of Mexico City durings the 1970's. They were great.

A slight shift in topic, I think that 1960s animated Spider-Man - since it was mentioned here - is definitive for 2 things: the awesome theme, as mentioned, along with most of the incredible Ray Ellis soundtrack; and Spidey's voice: since the 1st time I ever heard that voice, it's the one I always hear when I look at the comics. The Romita Silver Age issues in particular. It has so much personality. Intelligent and sarcastic. (Per all the high-pitched sissy voices in all later adaptations, y'know, not every male teen has a high voice!)

One of them was the 'Rocketeer 3D #1' (Neal Adams art, 3D by Ray Zone) and it had a cassette tape to go along with the story. Might be you find interresting. (Also a look at 3D comics in general might make a fun episode :) ).

I always like how the background pictures change based on the seriousness/silliness of the topic. Like if it was a serious episode is was the one where Green Arrow & Green Lantern find out Speedy was a junkie & if it was a silly episode it would be the background with Superman punching ball sacks.

I had a pretty good collection of Power Records, the G.I. Joe, Marvel and Planet of the Apes, I loved it! I actually do aspire to make my own comic book and record, using a downloadable MP3 file that readers can get from the web. wish me luck and turn the page when you hear the sound!

I had that Spiderman vs Draco comic an record, as well as the Star Trek Mauve or whatever it was comic record. For some reason I always felt really creeped out by the Star Trek one. Maybe it was that funny little creature, maybe the way they drew the book, I don't know. It was just strange.

Well they aren't readings of comics, but Marvel released a Deadpool audio play a few years ago and recently released a wolverine audio drama. DC has also made an audio drama, but it was a Batman audio drama with steve blum as Batman released only to the Navy.

Marvel recently partnered with Stitcher to do a scripted podcast called Wolverine: The Long Night. It's currently only available with a Stitcher Premium subscription, but Marvel is going to make it available for free next month. I listened to it, and was actually pretty impressed. I would definitely listen to a sequel/second season if they did one.

I think the artist who drew Uhura as a white woman mistook Lt. Palmer (Played by Elizabeth Rogers) in the episodes "The Doomsday Machine" and "The Way To Eden" for Lt. Uhura. If you look at Elizabeth Rogers' Wikipedia and IMDB pages you will see photos of her as Lt. Palmer that look identical to what is depicted in the earlier Power Book & Records. Uhura looks more like Nichelle Nichols on the back cover of the Star Trek Volume 1 album and the front cover of the "Crier In Emptiness" Book & Record but the interior art resembles Elizabeth Rogers. The artist who drew the later Book and Records made Uhura black again, but they drew the cast in Star Trek The Motion Picture uniforms even though the stories are still set in The Original Series. I don't know of any episode where Sulu may have been replaced at his post by a black character though, but it may have happened in an episode where Sulu didn't appear or was in sick bay or was part of the landing party. Lt. M'Ress also doesn't resemble the Filmation version, but that probably had to do with copyright issues and they also didn't use Lt. Arex from the animated series in the place of Chekov.

This is pretty interesting and I didn't know much about these. The closest I remember is the Spider-Man Reflections of a Rock Superhero album. Any chance you'd look at some older Legion of Super-Heroes stuff? I liked Giffen's dark reboot but the Levitz era would be fun too.
