Power steering belt - X Type Jaguar

A quick run through of replacing the power steering belt on a 2.0l Manual Diesel X-Type Jaguar.
Tools:
Pump pliers to remove air filter pipe
10mm socket
Ratchet
3/8" square something to move the tensioner. I used a 3/8"to 1/4" socket adapter on a breaker bar.

My PAS/water pump belt did snap today on my 2.0d X Type, the temperature gauge immediately soared as well as losing PAS but I pulled over after about three hundred yards to a safe spot. The AA reckon no further damage has been done. Is this really a quick, straightforward job for a mechanic (I'm not attempting to replace it myself)? The part looks ludicrously cheap on the internet, what should I expect to pay for a top quality replacement? Thanks.

Hi Thomas, this was my first go and I am not even close to a professional so it should be easy for someone in a garage, I'd be surprised if it's more than an hours labor? 🙂As for price, the belt alone in the UK is ~£10-15. There's a kit with new idlers etc. on euro parts for ~£150 and that would take longer to fit as well.

@@CraigManning Many thanks for your prompt and reassuring response, it always seems like a good idea to replace any ancillary items at the same time. I had the power steering pump replaced a couple of months ago and I'm a bit surprised that they didn't do a cursory check on the wear of the PAS belt.

@@thomasgray5406 As a driveway tinkerer I might have been tempted to swap the belt while I had everything open at the same time but for a garage it might be so trivial they didn't worry? I don't know if you get much of a visual clue when they are close to going?

Excellent Vid , short to the point,, might make it easier to just take the battery and holder out , loads more room and only an extra 2-3 minutes of time
