I am completely addicted to watching your restoration. It makes me tired seeing all the work you do and all the heavy lifting you do. I'm from Southern Vermont and had to do a double take when I heard you say you got a card from Vermont!! Very exciting. Johnathan was so cute when he opened his gifts and the love in your eyes watching him. The patience you all have with him while teaching him so many new skills! I've got a long way to go with your episodes. I'm a retired upholsterer and I think I heard Terry say that he was also an upholsterer. More power to you on your great adventure!!!

Here I am in a little coastal town of Goolwa in South Australia, Australia and I am completely enthralled with this family. I am captivated by your tenacity, vision and you all do it with shared focus and commitment. EVERY SINGLE one of you, Jonathan included seem to have grown in your dedication to excellence and to do THE very best with every single task. I am in awe of how you all can just maintain your focus for each task and not become overwhelmed with the magnitude of what you have ahead. I pray that you REALLY are loving it still. I am sure you have your 'moments' but you seem to be doing a fantastic job of holding each other up and your cohesion as a team is awe inspiring. If I am lacking motivation to do some of my jobs around the yard, I just watch an episode of yours and I'm set!!! I am only up to Episode 38, it's so hard not to binge watch, but I just have to :) 🥰❣

The brass fixtures for the turret are perfect. Terry you’ve become a master electrician. I’m a new subscriber and have been binging all the old videos. Thanks for this series. I hope it continues forever.
@EastLondonKiwi2 жыл бұрын
Lovely stuff team. Terry: in the Turret I would insolate the Turret ceiling cavity, with R24 or something suitably thick, while you are up there doing that electrical work. That hall way will act as a chimney for heat so you'll want a nice heat barrier at the top to prevent it sucking heat from the second floor straight up and out. Ash: re the joint compound. it looks good, but your doing it the hard way. Use two rough coats on unpainted walls and ceilings the aim here is big holes filled in and the area flat. The final coat of filler should be after you use a primer. You can not see the dips and imperfections when there is too much going on, the primer gets rid of the noise and highlights the dips and holes. Which means you can be more focused and accurate with your finish fill. If you are doing a traditional English plastered wall, I'd always primer even before any fill for the same reasons. you use less filler and get a faster and better result. I would not use a orbital sander either. I use a long board (12 to 18 inches) with paper double-sided to that, its faster and you get a flatter wall. keep the layers thin per coat and your sanding work is just a few strokes per area. I hope that helps.

Just going to mention. You have a tower, not a turret. A tower starts at the ground. A turret hangs off the side of a building. You can have a turret on a tower, but not the other way around. Tha paneling in the tower is going to be lovely when its all cleaned up.

In regard to your kitchen can I recommend you have drawers instead of cupboards as they are much easier to keep clean and you can see everything when you open the drawers. Have you heard of the product Restofinish? This might be extremely good on your panelling and save you a lot of hard work. You can view the product on line. I love what you are doing, I have enjoyed DIY over many years furniture restoration, upholstery, curtain making etc. My only regret is I am too old to climb a ladder!! All the very best wishes from Brisbane, Australia.

I'm really curious what the electrician is going to say about using singles in that old timber trunking! The French regs are fairly strict in a lot of ways so I'd expect wiring has to be double-insulated and the timber doesn't count as insulation.
@mojogaucho2 жыл бұрын
@@Ragnar8504 yes, I would have removed all the old wooden trunking (in Australia we call it troughing) and put the wiring behind the panelling. We use TPS cabling here which is double insulated and we only use corrigated conduit if the cable needs mechanical protection. All that conduit had me scratching my head. In fact in Australia all electrical work can only be done by a licenced electrician.
@Ragnar85042 жыл бұрын
@@mojogaucho That's more a matter of local preference, in Austria we pretty much do the same as in France, in Germany they mostly use cable. Conduit, if installed properly, does make it easy to replace damaged wires or add wires without disturbing walls. I think in France it's actually required by the regs. whereas elsewhere in Europe it's just considered good practice.
@hughw85432 жыл бұрын
Well done boys! I'm catching up as I've been too busy to watch recently as your videos come out. Great work with the wiring and plasterboarding. Just found your channel. Love the work your both doing. Keep it up. Wondeful. If you haven't figured out yet, one tip when doing any work behind the walls. Hook everything up, make sure it works. Then put the walls back. If it doesn't work you have to take all the walls off again.

Since you have so much wood panelling may I suggest the wonderful wood cleaning and conditioning product called Murphy’s oil soap. You add some to warm water and wipe it across the wood. It also smells wonderful and clean. Amazon has it for 4 liters for about 9.00 BPS.

Lady LaLacelle is really beginning to come into her own again. Can't wait to see the view of the turret lit up at night and....wow does that panelling fit nicely in the bathroom. Terry you mentioned that you didn't know what the pipe in the turret is for. I believe that it's an air pipe for the drains (sewage). Instead of putting the pipe through the roof like with most homes it was cleverly hidden in the turret. At least that's my best guess. All the best.
