I always look forward to a Dr. Joel Fuhrman interview...he is like a walking encyclopedia on the whole foods plant based lifestyle. What I like about him is it's not a religion...he realizes not everyone is going to be exclusive with this lifestyle. Though many of us are practicing this as wfpe participants, his point being we are individuals capable of responding differently to different foods and exercise. He treats his patients as individuals, not as a demographic. No cookie-cutter approach here. I also appreciate how direct he is in his responses, sometimes sparing no one. He's been a breath of fresh air for decades with his unique touch of New Jersey smarts. Thank you, Mark and Wanda! Namaste.🙏

Crazy format but really good information - we're probing things that may not be addressed in a more general outline of the nutritarial diet.

Rainwater is a very cool and pretty easy thing to set up. I think Rain Harvest has most of the things you need. Consult a permaculture book. You need a rainhead (which screens out leaves and mosquitoes), a first flush diverter (which collects the first flush of rainwater - so the rain washes your roof and gutters before you start collecting it, And resets itself with a little drip between rains), then you need a sediment layer which is never stirred up except, perhaps for cleaning. The water enters in a J so it doesn't stir up the sediment layer. You need an overflow (it will be always overflowing). Oh, you need a tank - you can get an IBC tote that's food grade, which means it used to contain corn syrup or something, not cleaning supplies or chemicals. An IBC tote is a steal cage with a plastic bladder. They're 250 gallons (cubic meter so a thousand liters) and they cost about $75. You need a bulkhead fitting and you put a hole near the bottom above the sediment layer. On the inside of that hole you have a hose that connects and on the other end is tied to a float and a string. The float makes the hose ride a few inches under the top where the cleanest most oxygenated water is. The string is tied to to the outisde top of the tote so that when the water is low the hose can't reach the sediment layer. The tote should be painted black or wrapped., so only a little algae will grow. Which it will because there will be chinks of light. But that algae will line the tank and handle any residual dissolved bird poop. You should put some limestone rocks in there to buffer the PH and it will make anything disolved in acidic rain come out of solution and end up in the sediment layer. With all that, I just drink the water directly, but you could easily pour it through a Berkee. And, of course, you could plumb this into your house and have a pump and filters of decreasing size and a UV filter, but I don't mess with any of that. You'd want a bigger tank at that point but with decent rainfall it'd be easy to supply all your household needs. I just want it for drinking and gardening. Although I'll maybe expand at some point. This rainwater tastes fantastic. Looks perfectly clear. And I've been drinking it for around a year with no problems. I basically collect the whole 250 every time it rains, So it's kind of all going to waste. I could easy supply a bunch of other people. You want it right where you live, though. I fill one of those water cooler bottles with a little pump on top.

Please could you advise about taking D3 and zinc? I am going to start by getting a blood test to determine Vit. D levels. It is not clear how I sould combine D3 with zinc for better aborption, and it seems there are few scientific papers on the topic. I really enjoy the lectures you give, the valuable information offered, and believe that tweaking my nutrition and exercise is likely to lower my comorbidities and decrease my risk of Endometrial Cancer recurrence. I have Stage 1B Grade 1 and will be having vaginal vault brachytherapy, which I am not a fan of, even though I have been told it will reduce my risk of recurrence from 25% to 10%. Thank you for your passion for a topic that is near and dear to my heart, pun intended!

nuritional yeast - good or bad?
@wandahuberman8703

Dr. Fuhrman sells Nutritional Yeast which is preferable to some other versions because it does not contain synthetic folic acid. Evidence suggests synthetic folic acid, which is chemically different than natural folate, promotes cancer growth and disrupts normal folate metabolism.

all “fortified “ foods include folic acid… a cheap synthetic version of folate which is abundant in a high leafy plant based diet… you need folate, not folic acid… folic acid is associated with increased cancer risk… avoid all fortified foods such a cereal and breads and “fortified” nutritional yeast… buy and use only unfortified nutritional yeast.
@slendermiracle9653
@slendermiracle9653 Жыл бұрын
Dr. Fuhrman highly recommends nutritional yeast IF it is unfortified. The reason for this is that the fortified versions contain folic acid. You might remember that folic acid helps prevent birth defects like spina bifida, but you may not know that it ALSO causes breast cancer and prostate cancer. Folic acid is SYNTHETIC folate. In supplemental form folate costs 10 to 20 times as much as the synthetic known as folic acid. Health promoting folate is plentiful in green leafy vegetables (foliage) and in beans, both of which you should be eating plenty of. Folate prevents birth defects but does NOT promote cancer like folic acid.

Country with the highest rate of diabetes is India and they don’t eat meat. China is not far behind. In India, type 1 diabetes is rarer than in western countries, and about 90 to 95% of Indians who were diagnosed had type 2 diabetes. Only about one-third of type 2 diabetics in India have a Body Mass Index about 25. India diet The Indian diet is rich in nutritious foods like grains, lentils, healthy fats, vegetables, dairy and fruits. The diets of most Indian people are heavily influenced by religion, particularly Hinduism. The Hindu religion teaches nonviolence and that all living things should be valued equally. There you have it the diet that causes type 2 diabetes. Diabetes causes heart disease.

shame on you Brenda… i just listened to this in detail and Dr. Fuhrman answered every single question competently and in depth… and mentions of his retreat and webpage (zero mention of his supplements) are VERY sparse and brought up by the host Huberman, as follows: -Water question: answered -Psoriasis question: answered -Cholesterol question: answered -Hypothyroidism question: answered -Fuhrman answers Huberman question saying he isn’t taking new patients but gives free advice on his website -Huberman mentions retreat -Zinc question: answered -Protein power question: answered -Osteoporosis question: answered -Exercise question: answered -Covid question: answered -Fuhrman family daily diet question: answered -Lettuce difference question: answered -Fermented foods question: answered -Smoothie question: answered -Prostate question: answered -Parkinson’s disease question: answered -Soaking Nuts question: answered -Stress/snacking question: answered -Fuhrman age question: answered -Huberman mentions retreat, upcoming conference, and website, NHA membership. spewing falsehoods to smear a doctor’s reputation who has literally saved thousands of lives (including mine) is just horrible… please do some sincere self-reflection.

Everything he sells on his website donates 100% of the profits to the Nutritional Research Foundation. I have heard him on multiple occasions recommend to people that they NOT buy certain products from his site if they have time to make them on their own. I've heard him say to several individuals something like, "Oh, that's a supplement for people suffering with_________. You don't need that. Save your money". He creates supplements that scientific research convinces him will extend his own lifespan and healthspan (healthy lifespan) as well as those of his patients and he sells things that he thinks are important that are difficult to find elsewhere. I have been amazed that he rarely mentions the products that are available on his site. Every doctor who has a facility that caters to very sick people who have trouble getting well on their own promotes their own facility. He certainly answered many important questions in this interview. His website has the function of answering far more questions than they have time for in a video and in much more detail. The Nutritarian diet is the result of Dr. Fuhrman making his niche among the so called plant-based doctors, putting out the real results of the science with no compromises with what people are accustomed to, would prefer to do, or are addicted to. Nutritarianism is designed to check every box in the attempt to achieve longevity and allow people to become healthy centenarians. He feels many people are going to compromise anyway, so it's better that they compromise with the gold standard of scientifically based healthy eating than compromise with a diet designed to appeal to more people with compromises already built in. I was once the manager of a facility owned and directed by Dr. Fuhrman. I found him to be the kindest and most honest person I have ever known. Brenda, I challenge you to read his latest and final book "Eat For Life" with an open mind, perhaps with the mindset that you have to win a debate with this information. THEN compare it with what you have believed before reading his book. I will give the respect of believing that your opinion of him will then be very different.
