You do NOT need to solder all 40 pins. You can just solder the two 5v and a ground port and it will work
@AmirAkhlaghi4 жыл бұрын
Instead of cutting off the rest of the pins you could stack another card on there as long as there's no conflict with which pins it's using and the pins in use by the juicebox. I'm curious what are the advantages to using this device instead of plugging in a mobile battery pack to the USB. (Besides freeing up the USB port)

If you are using.the HDMI then make sure the screen is connected to the same battery because the HDMI on the Pi doesn't protect against different zero volts levels

Soldering 40 pins on the top side... really? And why use a big board like this with that huge standoff gap and not a small Chinese boost converter charger or the adafruit powerboost 1000c ?
@runnhunt6 жыл бұрын
Same question here. Why wouldn't the existing GPIO pins work with a smaller standoff?
@obsoletepowercorrupts5 жыл бұрын
@@runnhunt Perhaps custom heatsinks and overclocking-vs-underclocking can be done that way for performance and power consumption tweaking.
@chrisw14624 жыл бұрын
@@obsoletepowercorrupts Maybe.. but you could mount it on the bottom of the Pi Zero with a much smaller header.

@@runnhunt I like the PiSugar - 900 or 1200 mAh and compact. With the big battery it's about the size of this one without. It's a little newer than this, though.
@obsoletepowercorrupts4 жыл бұрын
@@chrisw1462 Even though you could do that (i.e. mount on the otherside) in a nifty project, there are instances when having it on this side with a heatsink (one which fits) could work, and then the heatsink is thereby enclosed.

Couldn't I just connect a battery directly to the 5v and ground gpio pins? Why do I need a separate board that's as large as the pi?
@Howchoo6 жыл бұрын
So there are a few reasons why you’d want a board like this.. most importantly, powering your Pi directly from the GPIO header can easily fry it as there are no protection diodes or other circuitry. It would only take a small fluctuation to damage it. Also, you’d still need a dedicated circuit to charge the battery.. in addition to not being able to monitor the battery’s status to perform a safe shutdown. And shutting down your Pi improperly will corrupt your SD card pretty quickly. :) Also, most small batteries are 3.7V, not 5V. You need a voltage boosting circuit

can i stack another bonnet on top? i want to use this with the pi-zero and adafruit oled bonnet, but im not sure if this interferes with other GPIO devices
@Howchoo6 жыл бұрын
It really depends on which pins are used by which boards - look up each PCB on pinout.xyz and compare the two pin usages

Can i connect standard cell phone power bank to raspberry pi zero w ?
@AmirAkhlaghi4 жыл бұрын
As long as it can supply the milliamp draw of the pi and the voltage isn't too high you should be able to. Keep in mind some chargers may say they supply 2.4 amps but they mean through multiple ports simultaneously. It doesn't necessarily mean it will output that much through a single port. But it might.

Okay so I can still power things like screens with the header pins while using this module? And also would this work on all raspberry pis or at least the 3B+ ?
@Howchoo5 жыл бұрын
This one is meant for the Zero and probably won’t provide the amperage you need for the Pi 3 - something like this is a better option: howchoo.com/g/ntfiytbjote/raspberry-pi-ups-uninterruptible-power-supply - And you can definitely still connect other things, it just depends which pin they rely on. You’ll need some kind of header splitter. See Pinout.xyz to check for conflicting pins.
@AmirAkhlaghi4 жыл бұрын
The purpose of the extra tall header pins he added is so you can stack multiple hats so as long as you can fit it and there are no conflicts with the pins used you should be fine.

Can you still use the other remaining pins for sensors etc?
@Howchoo5 жыл бұрын
That depends which pins -- this site lists which pins are in use by the JuiceBox Zero: pinout.xyz/pinout/juicebox_zero -- you can use any other pins without issue

Why is that board so big? A 5V buck regulator and liion charging chip are tiny. This couldve all been on a small 20x20mm adapter board with a male micro USB connector.

You’re better off using a higher capacity battery then - AAAs won’t do the trick. You want a Lithium-Ion or Lithium-Polymer battery; not sure how many mAh it would take to power a Zero for several days but it shouldn’t be hard to calculate!
