I’m glad Brent brought up being a rapper before he started singing. You can hear obvious traces of that in some of these other artist too. PARTYNEXTDOOR is an obvious example, TYuS is another one, you can hear it in Bryson Tiller’s music too. These guys have that sing songy type rap vibe going on where you can tell they know how to hold a note but aren’t necessarily polished vocalist. That adds to their appeal though.

Even though its all subjective in music, ppl are more in love with the "vibe" than the vocalist or rappers "chops" in these cases and don't even know it. 😂 Frank Ocean is another example. Ppl think he's one of the greatest vocalists, but I've always felt that he is an okay singer, but more of a great producer and songwriter with a VIBE we love. ✨. Even if you didn't know his earlier work, you can definitely hear he used to be known as a "rapper" first. I could talk abt this topic for days though. Lol. Its all so interesting....
