Just one point regarding the melted shore power receptacle. It fried due to a poor connection at the terminal of the receptacle. The connection can loosen because of vibration, or salt and water can get in causing corrosion. In either case, it’s a high resistance connection that causes the terminal to heat up. You should check, clean and retighten your shore power connections every year. Don’t forget to use dielectric grease on the wire ends and terminals to your help slow corrosion. This is the cause of many boat fires. Just a tip from your friendly marine fire investigator.⚓️🚒🌊⛵️

Thanks for taking the time to share your trip with us. I found it very entertaining & interesting from your perspective as a novice & traveling in a somewhat unconventional type boat for that trip. I've lived on a lake most of my life & have been looking into the small yacht traveling thing. Your trip really opened my eyes about why most people prefer larger & slower boats for doing the loop and the ICW. I really enjoyed your novice commentary, since I think in the same terms. A big gray metal military looking boat's a "battleship" to me too. It's funny how many people bothered to correct you, as if it "mattered". Getting the name of a bridge wrong sure ruffled some feathers too, lol! And you'd better not call the joints that drain your credit card to refill your gas tank a "gas station". You weren't pretending to be seasoned lifelong sailors or experts, so I'm not sure why some thought they needed to "school" you over it.

at around 24:51, youre cruising past Holden Beach NC. You can see the boat I spent many summers aboard growing up, Intimidator, to port. Learned a lot about boating working on that old beauty. I saw you pass the sort of turquoise tower building off starboard at around 24:45 and was just going "wait a second, thats gotta be it!" with a grin getting wider and wider until you passed by. Its amazing how seeing something that holds so many memories for you show up in a stranger's travels evokes a totally new feeling.

What a great video. Enjoyed all of it. One of the best things is you were a newbie to this adventure and so many of those who want to do this are too. You explained the processes and protocols that others don't bother to. That is so helpful to so many others who may not take the leap because they are so unfamiliar with the do's and don'ts. You seemed to be happy with the marinas you chose, it would have been nice to mention their names. Thank you for sharing your adventure. It was fascinating.

Outstanding job, thanks for the efforts. Couple of suggestions for the novice boaters, not you guys, but there are books relating to rules of the road. Good stuff that you folks found out by experience. Speed, passing, locks and other need to know items are helpful. As an ex Navy flyer, the Battleship near Charleston is an aircraft carrier (Yorktown). The hint is airplanes are on the flight deck, Battleships do not have more than one or two birds, with a catapult to get them airborne. Choppers work well also. It was an enjoyable video, thanks for the memories......

Nice video! And very nice boat. Something to consider about buying a larger boat. I just restored a 1992 50' Riva with twin MAN 510s. She has 2 large cabins plus a crew cabin, a large salon with an L shaped couch that opens to a bed, galley, large aft deck, large flybridge, and 3 heads with 2 showers. But to get the gph you got at an average of 18 mph (around 15 knots,) I need to keep my average to about 8-10 knots max, even though cruising speed on my yacht is 25 knots, and she tops out at 31 knots at 2,000 rpm. At 25 knots, fuel consumption is about 30 gph. At 31 knots she's rated at 45 gph. But at 12 knots, it's less than half of cruise. For me, almost retired, it's worth cruising slower to have so much space. I would have doubled the time (maybe took a month...) of your trip down. I'm not in a rush. However, I will also pay more for docking fees, maintenance, etc. and I have 540 gallons of fuel in my tanks to fill. If you don't mind cruising at displacement/hull speeds, or if you have money to burn, larger is best for longer cruising. More than 50', costs rise quite a bit. On the other hand, a larger boat can handle heavier seas...

Just a little advice. You should slow down more when overtaking another vessel. You can see the Chris Craft having to turn into a pretty sizable wake around the 41:45 mark. I travel the ICW up and down the east coast in my 41’ aft cabin and things get tossed around in the cabin with those wakes. Also always pass barges slow. You can see they have a tender tied up alongside the tow and it can cause damage banging against your wake. Safe travels!

Review Outlaw yea... you want to pass them only slightly faster than they are going. A lot of the ICW travelers live on their boats and wakes throws their things about the cabin. When you see a boat that you’ve passed turning into your wake after the pass, you know you’ve gone too fast! I know there’s a lot of critics about anything and everything on here... just thought I’d throw it out there! I learned the hard way too... mostly by getting yelled at on 16! Lol

Nice trip- you passed right by our house. We love watching the migration of boats, but please remember that it is a no wake zone within 50 feet of any dock or pier whether or not there is a sign (NC Law and just plain courteous)- you may not realize it, but the wake from a large/ go fast boat like yours causes significant damage to the docks (particularly the floating docks) whether or not the boats are on the lifts. Plus you will cut your fuel costs down dramatically and get a lot more waves from the friendly folks on the ICW.
@quadcomputers4 жыл бұрын
It's one of biggest abuses on the ICW (wakes) they have no regard for docks, piers, or slower moving boats. S.C. is cracking down as this was noticed during my travel last year. Over the past 15 years the shores in both N.C. and S.C. have been bulldozed level, with high rise and townhouses now replacing the trees and banks. We had time to not only simply wave to say hello but actually exchange words with people who had been on their floats fishing or sun bathing, they found no fault with our passing bye.

I live between Annapolis and Baltimore and there are many amenities in this part of the bay, and you are never far from shore. The only known major hazard north of Calvert cliffs is Thomas point shoal. Great video, love your boat.

Wow glad I ran across ur vid! I had no idea how much the fuel cost was, owning a small 2 engine 35' boat....and that was going down hill!!! going with the flow!! from north to south!!! 500 here, 400 there, wow!!! have not added it up but it looks like about 3k just going to the top of florida Jacksonville. Cost will be twice on return trip upstream!! I also did not know how much time was involved! BTW super flat water is called "glass" I lived on island in florida cocoa beach and launched my boat into where banana river and indian river merge at merrit island tho i only had a f16 jet boat and stayed in the river..wanted to buy a 32 to 36 twin engine to launch out of sebastian inlet to travel to bahamas sense by miles it was less than 100 from me but taking a boat that small can be really dangerous and weather has to be great. I know most who told me of the trip i wanted said id have to go upstream on ICW to make sure the current did not push me past the islands..but now after watching this im just going to stick to the $400 4 day 3 night carnival cruises that leave from port canaveral 20 miles away..they feed u on them and u get a bed and bathroom...
@rontank135 жыл бұрын
Day 4 headed out of AC, you should've used the ICW to avoid taking a pounding in the wind and waves. It would take you all the way to Cape May.
@quadcomputers4 жыл бұрын
Running inside N.J. requires time coupled with bridges and shoals; during the summer months it is loaded with local traffic. Therefore most cruisers prefer making the Atlantic City stop; then crossing open water to Ocean City, Maryland. Or (alternate) round Cape May and go up the Delaware. As for sail it is far better to run the outside shores whenever passing N.J.

Your attitude "don't listen" is the very reason these people run aground. I have seen 1/4 million dollars yachts get swamped after running-a-ground.

Very interesting. However, being from Newport, RI myself, home of Naval Station Newport and the US Naval War College I was surprised that you kept referring to aircraft carriers and destroyers as "battleships". Coming from guys who know boating I had to laugh, it seems like it was lots of fun.

Great vid👍👍a dream trip in the future for my wife and I. *I’m certain someone corrected you already...when you left jersey city, you went under the Verrazano narrows bridge. The GW is north up the Hudson👍 Good job

You went under the George Washington Bridge? Are you sure that wasn't the Verezzano? To go under the GWBridge you would have to go up the Hudson River to the top of Manhattan.

GREAT video travel log and a lot of GREAT tips for us wannabe boat travelers. Wonder if the Raymarine folks had thoughts on their GPS showing your boat on the land a few times? One quick tip... it was very nice of you to offer a tow to a local boater but it can be quite dangerous to tie a tow line to a deck cleat (30:04), which can tear loose and become a projectile heading straight for the tow boat. It's always better to attach the tow line directly to the eye tiedown on the bow stem, which is through bolted into the superstructure and not attached with screws into the deck or gunnel/gunwale of the boat. Thanks for sharing your experiences!

Well, all I can say is ... god bless ya for taking that small gaser for that trip ... I certainly wouldn't want to do it! Hey, do yourself a favor and take a boater's safety course. When passing, overtake down the starboard side ... not port. And when you pass, make sure your stern isn't drafting a huge wake ... having a boat pass drafting a huge wake is a major pet peeve of many captains. Five grand in fuel cost ... LOL! Anyway, you did it. Good on ya. Again, do yourself and other boaters a favor ... take a safety course. And, keep checking those caps!
