There are people do tree farms. And the tree farms never get so called "wild" fires. California planning should plan on forests or land grass management to prevent or reduce wild fires. Electricity lines cannot be above ground. Trees need to be cut down and replaced systematically. Otherwise, forest fires are necessary for forests to manage their own life cycles. Private houses should not and cannot be built within close trees and bushes. We don't plan well, which will cause forest fires.

ah, *no* The Camp Fire in Paradise was similar yet still quite different. [Oddly, I lived in Paradise and Magalia decades ago, and have long called Maui home although born on Oahu.] 102 confirmed died in our Maui nei, and Dora - a hurricane delivered winds from the south to take out countless trees and downed power lines which lit fires that were then spread in conditions *impossible* to battle. In both of those fires towns were 99.7% obliterated and 85 and 102 *humans died* in horrific conditions. This fire is being pushed by the legendary Santa Ana winds and has taken many structures but no report of lives lost . So far it appears that evacuations have been feasible and and although terrible losses are occurring, out of respect, maybe don't make these comparisons.

ftr, homes and forests were burned in Kula 8/8/2023 too (I think it was 22 total.) Lahaina was immeasurably worse, but the losses of homes was still significant upcountry. [And other losses, including cars. I saw two within a half mile in Kula that were absolutely annihilated by enormous trees felled by the gusts. Trees of diameter 5 - 6'+ and dozens of feet tall, with downed power lines lying by one of those cars.]

Nature intended these dry bushland to burn in order for it to regenerate and thrive. Its the same in Australia. We " protected and preserved " these woodlands by preventing these annual fires, causing dry and dead organic material to accumulate.
