@@stoempert I definitely believe it's genuine. Don't underestimate perfectionism. I've had sets in the moment where I didn't even want to upload, and months later when emotionally detached, it's absolutely buried. It's a weird thing. I've noticed it in others too. Some people automatically get hypercritical after good sets, to reign in expectations. A good way to think about it is why do they squat so deep in the first place? Or pull with great form? It's because they're the type to be hyper-concerned in the first place. A blessing and a curse 😂
@stoempert4 жыл бұрын
@@CanditoTrainingHQ You're maybe right. I have definitely recorded sets where form and/or speed felt terrible and when you watched back it was absolutely fine. What remains are hyper critical or insecure people who can't objectively judge themselves.

@@stoempert Not everyone knows about the crease of the hip below the knee or can separate what they feel from what they see in themselves. I'd prefer to give people the benefit of the doubt so that they aren't potentially embarrassed when they read these comments. Edit: I think the female squatter could have gone lower if she wanted to.

The only thing about ketan’s that you didn’t mention. If he sets his head down a bit that can help with being more “neutral”. Not a big thing, I just found setting my head with my back helped with pain

I think Matt could try either leaning over less/trying to maintain a straight bar path. You can see as he gets to the bottom of the lift he definitely leans forward more. I also think the bar may be too far up on his back.

For myself, RDL slowly gave me the flexibility I was missing in my DL. Now, I am able to have an excellent bentover position while maintaining my back line.

I think Matt should try to get the bar down a little bit lower on his back, and get rid of the heels, or at least try without them. They seem to be doing nothing but forcing him forward because he is squatting low bar and isn't worried about staying upright. However I do think he could also take a different approach, he could keep the heels, move the bar position up and squat high bar, but he may have to lighten the load. Given that he doesn't want to compete the latter may be the better option for just lifting since he won't have to force himself into an uncomfortable position to move heavier weight. At the end of the day he just needs to experiment more with the variables he can control.

Matt is not doing a high bar squat despite being in a high bar start position. He is thus unbalanced when getting up as he is bent too far over. He should practice the high bar squat groove and pathway first. Basically more upright stance and a feel of the weight in the middle of the foot with heels anchored down ready to push up.
@bigmonkey30894 жыл бұрын
I'm a powerlifting noob, but my squat looked very similar to Matt's not to long ago. I found that my wrist was way too vertical and stiff, and was pushing the weight forward in the hole of the squat, causing the good morning pattern. I think that he could try tilting the wrist back and letting the weight sit lower on his back in order to achieve a better bar path.

It looks like Matt is squatting low bar with the bar in the high bar position. He should try repositioning the bar in a low bar position on the spine of the scapula

Matt just needs to get the elbows situated cause they are flaring out quite a bit. I think if we get a side angle of the lift we’d see the bar path getting curved forward at the bottom of the lift.

KZbin recommended this playlist to me. I'm a weightlifter so I'm used to analyzing my snatch & clean+jerk, so it's cool to see all the nuance and technique breakdown in powerlifting! I've watched several of these now, and I like how your advice like 50% of the time is just to "go lighter". To truly get better you really have to leave your ego at the front door! So I love your advice! What software are you using to draw on the screen? I'd love to use something like that in my analysis videos!

Matt, try bringing your legs closer together and backing off the weight a bit. You seem to only get the first 3 reps until you run into major form break. Also, try to maintain posterior tension from start to finish and you'll avoid the classic good morning squat. Once you get that down we can deal with the chicken winging.
@Bram-gb5oc4 жыл бұрын
I think Matt could put the bar lower on his back. maybe also try a wider grip since his shoulders are very up instead of depressed, which probably pushes him forward. It also looks like he is not very comfortable going into the bottom position so maybe he should try out different foot placements
@Darkz3rlz4 жыл бұрын
For Matt, I'd suggest keeping the ribs down and just embrace the lean. His back looks like it's arched at the bottom because he's trying to stay too upright and bracing into his chest, rather than the belly. Other than that, maybe program in some pause, tempo, or pin squats to keep your knees out at the bottom. I'd wager the hips shooting up and back that much is just weak quads coming into play.

Question about the first guy: What about his elbow position? Arent they too wide? He seems to have less than optimal position at the bottom with too much stress on the elbow and unnecessary triceps exhaustion. Shouldnt he tuck them under his wrists more?

Matt shd work on his ankle mobility, so that he can keeping his torso more upright at the bottom. He is using more hip hinge than knee extension to squat. And his elbow position need some adjustments, they flare too much.
@jorgeegrojful4 жыл бұрын
matt’s squat is good for not competing. might want to try a wider stance and going further out with the knees to reach more depth/get off the toes, but it’s still decent

Matt should control his bottom position and his ascent, since torso angle flattens and the bar is pushed forward. Though the rpe makes this understandable
