How do you like it after a year of use? I’m in the market for this size jointer. Also, what style plug does it have?Nema 6-50?
@pepepepepe333 жыл бұрын
What would be the need to adjust the out feed side? I have the same jointer and I can't even get it to move after loosening the set screw.
@JonFordWoodworks3 жыл бұрын
Hey Joe, the easy answer is there aren't many instances where you would need to adjust the outfeed table. I've never moved either side of mine. Why are you trying to adjust it?
@pepepepepe333 жыл бұрын
@@JonFordWoodworks I guess I wasn't really trying to adjust it, maybe just more curious how everything worked.
@JonFordWoodworks3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, mine came perfectly setup from the factory, and I have never felt the need to change it. Honestly, I don't think I'll ever move either side of the table unless I have to. The infeed side is a 32nd of an inch lower than the outfeed side, which is perfect. I know each side has a bolt that you would start by removing, and then I believe you adjust the knob underneath to move the table. This is all just an assumption though. I also know that you ideally don't want to move the tables anymore than you have to.

@@JonFordWoodworks I'll set mine to a 32nd and leave it. Thanks for the fast reply.

I'm always happy to help - although I wish I could have been a little more helpful! I'd love to hear how the setup goes. Hopefully it's fairly simple.

About the safety part, search Perkins Builders Brothers on youtube and you'll see one of the guys on that channel wears a prosthetic. He was using this same jointer and had the guard pulled back for some reason. Not sure how the accident happened but it ate 4 of his fingers, 3 past the second knuckle. He has a bunch of videos showing what happened and the recovery and they're well worth a watch but also there's a lot of other interesting builds on the channel.

Very informative video. I'm trying to decide between a powematic or jet jointer. At the moment neither are available.
@JonFordWoodworks3 жыл бұрын
I haven't used Jet, but I have heard good things about them. This Powermatic has been great - worth every penny. I think you'd be happy either way. Hopefully supply gets back to normal soon. A lot of stuff is unavailable these days. You'll have to let me know which way you go. Thanks so much!

Jet is a cheaper version of the Powermatic made by same company (JPW Industries whom now owns Jet/ Powermatic/Wilton/Edwards/Baileigh/ Axiom Precision ) The Jet and Powermatic are made in the same factory in Taiwan . I did that two step dance between the two Jet and Powermatic and settled on Powermatic after exhaustive review and hands on with the tools. Powermatic has more robust build quality, better electric motor. Jet will do everything a Powermatic will do at a cheaper cost. Now that I think about it I could have saved thousands going with Jet over all my Powermatic and purchased more woodworking machines. But those Powermatic machines That I own will last my life time with care and maintenance. Only thing I would do differently is purchase a Powermatic Shaper/ Spindle molder over the Shop Fox, But the ShopFox will do everything I can ask it to do. Powermatic is just built somewhat better and has upto a 1 1/4 inch spindle where the ShopFox only 1 inch.

The larger depth of cut or the cutting depth allows for doing tapers for table legs. Also you can cut tapered miter joints via the tilt of the fence. I upgraded from a 6 inch dovetail style jointer planner the Powermatic 8in huh parallel jointer planer. I have only used it once but I was totally in awe by the smoothness of the jointed edge that the helix head.
@JonFordWoodworks3 жыл бұрын
Good comment. I knew it could do all that - you can also use it to cut rabbits, but I have never really intended to use any of those features. It is strictly for milling lumber. You're right though - it works beautifully!
@jwar21633 жыл бұрын
@@JonFordWoodworks I was told by a Powermatic Tool Representative that the helical head units are not ideal to use for the rabbet (American English) or rebate (British English) function due to placement of the cutters on the helix head. Hence why I did not mention it. The straight knife 6in thru the 12 in units will still perform the rabbet (American English) or rebate (British English) function. Btw nice video.

Very nice unit.. I recently got a jet long bed 6 inch jointer what a game changer as far as getting nice flat square edges. Have you had a chance to check out the laguna fusion F2 table saw yet I absolutely love mine. You guys are colder than us here in Alaska. Stay warm and safe see you in the next one
@JonFordWoodworks3 жыл бұрын
Hey Sam, I was looking at Jet too. I caught a sale on the Powermatic and went with it. You're right though, it's so convenient being able to quickly flatten/square up lumber. I did check the Laguna out while I was at the store. It would be a fine option! I hope to upgrade my table saw soon. Haha I didn't realize it was colder here than it's been in Alaska. Thankfully, I think it is supposed to start warming up today!
