The SPC block is the greatest thing Summit has done for a while. At $2099, I don't even work for Summit and I'll advertise the 11/2024 price for them. I hope Brian is right about an 8.2 Windsor. What the world needs is this awesome SPC block in a Ford 8.2 at the same price. This block is the best aftermarket SBC that is currently visibly available. It is *clearly* meant to last 300,000 miles if you want to have another old 210hp farm truck. The Summit engineering/marketing team deserves huge credit, as well as Summit's management and stakeholders. I hope Summit gets huge returns on this awesome episode. Pat and Frankie pulled out the stops to demonstrate all that his block is capable of. If Summit had made it any 'stronger', you would start *losing* options. Summit, this is the best-positioned aftermarket block I've ever seen. Your Ford 8.2 is going to change the game. And that Dart 2JZ is just ultra-exciting. That thing is ridiculous. It's a great new world! I literally have those valve covers in my Summit cart right now with *that* block.
@TheFogLakeshore29 күн бұрын
I'd also like to point out that Holley offers the perfect-solution Hi-Ram for the SBF 8.2/9.5 and the LS . The SBC is the King of aftermarket, but the SBF is imo the simplest motor to take all the way out with tech. I think the SBF is actually the most vanilla of all worth-it engine blueprints and I think Holley does too. And that makes the 8.2 deck height Ford The One.

@@BCars_Garage I would love a 4.125 bore FE block. It would be 1966 again. The FE blocks are controlled by one person and he controls availability and price. They are twice what they should be. I just want a poor guy option. A $2800 428 block. Not a 1000 hp one, a 700 hp CJ. The Windsor doesn’t belong in Cobras. Or in Sportsman cars. The FE vs the SBC is classic. Please don’t kill the FE🙏
@RacingRon4725 күн бұрын
SBF’s were in cobras before FE’s, so that’s ridiculous to say that. Il take a cobra with a 600 hp 427 Windsor over a 600 hp 427 FE anyday of the week
@Bbbbad72425 күн бұрын
@@RacingRon47 I disagree. The 8.2 deck 289 was in the Cobra first. The 351 W was never in the Cobra from Ford. I think that the FE is a truly great engine. The 390 can make 1.5 hp per ci for as long as you want, and you must maintain any engine. What is your point? If you like the W then have fun. But it was never part of the “ Total Performance “ era. It is the cheap option now and they can be capably built. But I will always choose the FE on principle and from the great power that they still make. Can you deny this legitimately? I can’t. The FE, 50s and 60s The 289 302,60s. The tall deck 351s- 400s were held down by emissions. The 429-460, a great engine but they were very heavy and the exhaust was restricted for emissions. My opinion, and you are free to yours. The 289 was replaced with the FE for some reason. Was it the hours on a computerized simulation of LeMans every upshift and downshift, fixing every failure point that trickled down to regular FEs ?

Two interesting things. First, block oiling is like dart: [priority] main galley, then drivers lifter galley, then the passenger side lifter galley presses up. I think this may be a good candidate for a prelube pump [don't forget the check valve or an interlock to disable cranking]. Second, the LS pattern won't solve the two plane crank dilemna: a pair of cylinders on each side is firing 90 degrees from each other, which makes equal length primaries on headers a mistake. What it can solve... is control options where coil packs are used - lots of LS stuff out there, and interesting move by Summit. Take a typical ecm, tweak fuel curve [or in this case of carburetion, other options need flipping] and you're running.
@faustthehammer8706Ай бұрын
I do think the ls firing order is stupid it only keeps the center 4 from the crank hitting the ground it isn't about cylinder to cylinder a/f distribution

It's nice to have some alternatives to Motown and Dart blocks that are more affordable. I would love to see some comparisons to these blocks. I have a Dart SHP 427 in my Vette and it makes 550hp. The biggest difference here is the heads and cam vs my setup. I use the DART Pro1 215 heads and a howards cam with a .545/294 in 565/300 ex. The Dart block is over $4000.00 and the Motown race block is $4728.00. With a $2100.00 price point the Summit block can save money that can be used for other go fast parts. I heard the SHP blocks have an issue with hydraulic lifter oiling. I already had one lifter fail on my engine. Howards doesn't know what could have caused it.

The AFR 195s are what I have in my dream cart, even at 383 they're going to run so good off the line for near-stock converter with bigger torque. It would be nice if one dyno run was about smooth run in from off-idle.
@KingJT8027 күн бұрын
a 427 like this with 230cc heads isnt gonna be something that you wanna pull starting at 1000 RPM the stall on this would AT LEAST be 3500 RPM so thats pointless. id say build a 400 stock block with an air gap intake and small aluminum heads and thats what you're looking for.

500 HP on a what $15,000 fully built custom motor with a specially made boat anchor cast iron block that weighs 175 lbs by itself. $2300 + tax and shipping for a bare block that you still have to throw another 2k easy in machine work to get it to fit at crazy machine shop rates. So basically min $3500 if you get great rate at a shop just into the bare block ready for assembly. Then the internals are probably 1500-2000 heads another $2500. Intake and ignition another 2K. For that money you can get a fully built NA K24 making 350+ HP at a fraction of the weight that would run circles around any boat you throw that anchor into. This is why the classes are divided because $ for $ you cannot compete with power to weight ratios outside of full pro mod drags where the 4 bangers are catching up with Carl Brunets 5.8 in the 2023 World Cup. Look I’m not bashing v8’s here they sound way better look better but when you decided to throw a jab at them expect punches coming back.

Love bb in sb clothes idea, but they didn't build a "street" engine. The only time my engines got to 6 grand going to work in the morning involved a missed shift with a sneeze. That engine makes 300 hp @ 3700 rpm and 430ish trq. - To get the juice you paid for out of it would draw a significant law enforcement escort with helicopters. I would like to see this built as a real daily driver street engine. Smaller loper cam, fuel injected (TBI), etc. and see the numbers then.
