Isn’t it crazy how many of us are old enough to be Jami’s mom/grandma and LOVE her as if she were our own daughter/granddaughter!!! It warms my heart to see so much love poured into her life and soul!!! I truly believe Jami Cakes has been brought to so many of us in our ending years to remind us that there is still lovely humans on this planet bc our last years can be the hardest for so many of us that no longer have family members so we loss contact and then it becomes unbearable once we are either home bound or bed ridden! I am so thankful for our precious Jami who has brought sunshine back to my soul 🥰 and I am so thankful for people like you Sherry who share their love n joy n memories along her beautiful journey! Much Love n Peace to you sweet Sherry 🥰

Almost everyone has moved to shavings, but I remember how the horses just loved freshly changed straw bedding in their stalls. They would lay down and usually just sacked out on their sides for a great sleep. In the winter they would fluff it up and snuggle down with it pulled up around them for warmth. Love the barn plans! Have fun.

Pollyanna was so proud "I found daddy!!! Oh! Mommy's here too!! Happy days" lol Great job on winterizing the barn. Sounds like some great plans. You're going to want a nice sized shed, so you can store all the tack there too. Saddles take up a lot of space. and you can have lovely shelves so things are nicely sorted/organizes. make sure a workspace/workbench for easy comfort doing whatever you need to do in your tack room.

Hi Jamie- good idea- When Dad built our horse barn, we had it set up going East/west instead of North and South- Our storms comes in from the South West and Colder winds come down from the North (once in a while)- Would suggest getting more lighting, so at night you can do things easily. :D Also suggest getting cross ties. :D

Looks great Jami n Lester. ❤💖 I put out fresh straw in all the stalls today in NW Cali as it'll be the first hard frost, at or below 32-F for the year. My mares filly has still got a thinner coat as do the other horses cuz it's only been in the upper 50's to 60's at night. With a week plus of cold rains and temps coming... it is needed. I'm not in southern Cali, so it can get cold here much like you, about 10-15 times over a winter. The cement flooring has these coils in it that are warmed, with horse mats on top, plus straw to keep their feet warm during cold snaps and it keeps the stables around 60-F. That cold air from the Northern Pacific Ocean is laden with moisture as the rains arrive to quench the Redwoods thirst. The Therapy horse arena is heated so if necessary the horses can be put up there for extreme cold, it's rare though, but... it's a backup option when needed. Blankets are ready, hay moved around, restocked stable grains etc and I think we are ready... until we get into winter mode. I know you are prepared. Busiest week I've had since last Feb-2024. I can't wait to see your completed project Jami ❤💖❤

As for Pollyanna…. Maybe a harness and a spoon to keep her inside the paddock?? I remember when Lester did that for Shirley.

Hi Jamie, I love your idea for the barn. Enclosing the one side is great. It will be more like a barn when you’re done. If Lester is afraid the horses will feel they don’t know where to go, just train them. Walk them in with their lead into the stall so they will know where to go. You can even have them get use to which stall is theirs. I just love it and so will they. I can’t wait to see it when it’s done ❤

Jami looks good another idea for inside of barn stalls instead of using timber you can put rubber matting on the walls great for horses they can't hurt themselves . A storage container would make a great tak room for all your stuff. Enjoy the enclosed barn wall
@pattdunn9845Ай бұрын
Jami, on the outside storage area. Could you put a thick concrete pad? That may direct your water runoff away from the drive . I would make it a tall building. That way, you can store horse blankets in totes above your head.[ You don't use them that much] and then saddles. Leaving your lower shelves for tack and meds and on the doors put in a shoe divider like a pocket organizer for brushes and picks and lead ropes.Maybe a refrigerator for meds. [ though it may be too hot for your compressor in an enclosed shed in direct sun.]

I like the barn ideas to give the horses a warmer place in the winter. I am also proud that Lester agreed to such a thing. Now I grew up in South Dakota so our barns were huge closed in buildings. haha I was thinking that if you had a barn like this for all the littles to go into come night...that would surely keep the predators from getting them BUT I do know in the normal Texas heat, it would require an air conditioned barn in order for them to be closed in like that. Lester said your idea doesn't give the horses an extra out for opposite side but as I recall the Plum Grove barn stalls don't have an out on the opposite side.
