Jack Sock is improving rapidly and becoming more consistent. He's entertaining to watch and brings a lot to the sport. I expect Sock to be ranked top 5 within 6 months.

Funny how the commentators are saying how they'd expect a tennis player to have a big backswing. Like yeah they'd have that when playing tennis cause of the energy you'd need to generate for it, pickleball in comparison is practically ping pong for them

When Alshon hit that tweener and then went right into the net on the next serve he was done. That's when you slow down and get it over the net. Brad Gilbert talks about it in Winning Ugly. How often players fault after a big play because of the energy and adrenaline.

I have always been a Sock fan. But he was a way better tennis doubles player than singles player,. As his career hit the latter half, his competitors exploited his weaker backhand. He could get away with that side in doubles. I put Jack in the top 10 doubles player of all time.

Not too surprising, he only started the PPA tour in the second half of last year so he hasn't had as many opportunities to get points. On top of that, this year he has skipped some events or has not performed super well. In 2024 he did not participate or lost in the round of 32 once, lost in quarters once, lost in semis three times. For the most part, the guys above him have either participated in more events or have medaled.

He's #5 in this year's race even before this tourney, just wasn't playing a full schedule last year.

Alshon looks like tennis player Denis Shapovolov. I don't think he could beat Shapo in a tennis match. Is Alshon still thinking about playing pro tennis?
@hdwagyo9 ай бұрын
Hey look, a tennis pro with less experience and time in the sport beating someone who is a full time pickle nerd. Guess Alshon had that karma coming making a ridiculous statement about pickle being harder than tennis. He might crawl to arcade pong and say that's harder on the hands and eyes 😂. Jack beat him so bad the first round, he felt bad and made it a close 2nd match

Alshon said something about whether Sock really "wanted it enough" to be a good pickleball player, pretty stupid of him.

@@anthonyng8800i mean he kinda is conquering pickleball at the moment. Last year he went in the end of the 4th for mlp and this year he went 7th overall. the poor production and lack of knowledge of the commentators are the reason why pickleball is not as popular as it should be. for most people pickleball is still way more enjoyable to play than to watch. considering how the sport has exploded and how accessible it has become, it doesnt make sense ppa is at 84k subscribers while tennis tv is at 1.5mil
@kabob219 ай бұрын
Why doesn’t it make sense? Most people had never even heard of pickleball before the pandemic (or at all), especially outside the US. Modern tennis is 150 years old, professionally been around for 60 and is the 4th most popular sport in the world

Jack Sock is fun to watch and all, but I wish the announcers would be a little more honest about the fact that he’s a multi-millionaire and this is just a hobby for him. For the majority of the other players, this is their job, their career.

Players like Jack Sock elevate the game, make it more competitive and drive players to improve. Regardless of his net worth, Jack is making the game of Pickleball better and bringing some attention that it might not get otherwise. I’m here because Alshon became a thing on Twitter earlier this month and I needed to see what it was like when an ex tennis pro beat the world #4, after what Alshon had to say. I’ve never watched too much of pickleball but I watched most of this. I don’t understand how this is a legitimate money-earning sport. The commentators are going wild for points that showcase skills I too possess. And the entire match goes for 28 minutes? I feel like I’m in some parallel universe…

It's funny how pro tennis players with little effort can become top pickle ball players but the reverse situation is not true. The best pickle ball player would probably be ranked like 50,000 among high school student players because pickleball is a fake sport lol
@jev28677 ай бұрын
Sock is a doubles slam champ and an Olympics medalist. Not exactly a run of the mill former tennis player. Yet, he's got some losses in pickleball. You'd think he'd be mopping everyone, but he hasn't. He lost to Staksrud in the same tournament. Little effort, pfft..
@LP_08206 ай бұрын
While yes, tennis is harder than pickleball, (more running, harder hits, long racquet so you need better hand-eye coordination, etc) pickleball still requires (in my humble opinion) a certain skill set. But once tennis players get it down, they definitely dominate. Also,… the “fake sport” and “made up sport” arguments aren't very good because every single sport ever created is made up. Pickleball IS a sport, but more of a leisurely one. Which makes it more enjoyable to me!
