I have already installed this, waiting on the ppe intercooler…where does the coolant recirculate back into the charge air cooler
@DemonWorks6 ай бұрын
Front most radiator is for the charge air cooler, there is a pump attached to it that flows the coolant through the charge air cooler then back through the charge air cooler radiator.

I recently just purchased and received the PPE inter cooler for my truck but I am confused on how the inter cooler will self fill/replace the coolant on its own. Looking at the cooler, the coolant reservoir is lower than the fill hose(liquid goes down hill not up hill), wouldn’t this not allow the cooler to self replace like the stock cooler? The stock cooler hose from the reservoir is flush so any coolant loss will natural replace itself. I watch how you had to lift the coolant reservoir up 6 inches or so to fill the cooler up, that doesn’t make sense to me unless the unit has a pump that pulls the coolant up into the cooler itself. Is there something PPE told you on how the unit works in that matter. I would hate to put this on and later on over heat due to no coolant in the intercooler. Or every oil change do we have to raise the reservoir up to refill the cooler? Sorry for the essay but I hate to ruin my truck engine over this. Thanks
@DemonWorks Жыл бұрын
Understandable, there is a pump that runs the coolant through. Fill the way I did and you are good to go.
@johnspurrier0001 Жыл бұрын
I would be extremely interested in the numbers. While a larger surface area will lead to faster heat dissipation, a larger unit does not necessarily equate to larger surface area. I'd be concerned the larger housing on the replacement unit is thicker, and causes a heat trap. Those engineers at GM are pretty sharp when it comes to efficiency and effectiveness. Granted, regulations may require them to leave a little left under the hood l.

@@DemonWorks No, because that was the deal breaker when I did the research on the engine when gm introduced the motor and secondly gm claim 150k miles service intervals...no thank you I am not replacing a belt every year and a half or so. I do alot of driving so I'll just keep 08 6.6 GMC but I really think gm should have produced the baby 4.5 v8 dmax for 1/2 ton that they shelved in 07 or 08 that motor had the same output as the LB7 dmax and the 4.5 was gear driven valve train and crankshaft driven oil pump just like it's bigger brother the 6.6
@markw-2025 Жыл бұрын
It really sucks that Duramax decided to shelve the LM2 for the LZ0, and especially frustrating that anyone who wanted a LZ0 diesel SUV is out of luck for 2023. So you have to purchase for 2023 a discontinued engine. Its not cool to keep changing after only a few year run. Parts will hard to get after awhile.
@DemonWorks Жыл бұрын
I hear your frustrations and I just want to point out that the LZ0 is based off the LM2 but with some improvements or changes. The LM2 was not shelved, it was just updated to the LZ0 for the trucks only. Most LM2 owners are very happy and many have commented that the changes seem minimal to them and they don’t plan on changing their vehicles from just this update. In 3 years, there will be another update to this engine, much like the 6.6 has received continual updates.
@jrwstl02 Жыл бұрын
@@DemonWorksYes, mainly the LZ0 got steel pistons, slightly smaller bore (thus thicker sleeves), and slightly longer stroke (to maintain 3.0 displacement). Seems engineers want it to be more robust than the LM2, and agree there will be future updates. Our LM2 is a ‘23 Yukon and what a great combination! More power than our previous 5.3, very quiet, great fuel economy, way less gear hunting, and no DOD.
@DemonWorks Жыл бұрын
@@jrwstl02 Incorrect. The LZ0 received steel pistons, yes. Thicker sleeves, yes. The stroke and the bore is unchanged. I did a full video on this before the engine came out, believe I have done 2 or 3 because this misinformation is just crazy. The stroke did not change, what did change is the height of the piston and where the wristpin attaches to the piston is raised, so a longer connecting rod. The bore and the stroke remain the same. There are turbo changes, intake valve length changes, head gasket and. cylinder head changes. Coolant valve is different, the way the trans cooling system works is also different. kzbin.info/www/bejne/mqmznH5_jZJnl68
