Really appreciate this, Chris; thank you for being such a great leader in this sport and a positive force in the community.

My instructor had 'the talk' with us a few times during training and it really stuck with me. Great video. Lends a good balance to my KZbin consumption.

It’s not “brainwashing” if it’s good sound advise! This video needs to be watched every time the “new , next best glider “ is released. Thank you for this.

Great video and couldn't agree more so often flying people try to go to the smallest wing possible and pay for it in their glide and climb.. the knees don't last forever

A month or two after this video was released Gaggle (a PPG-oriented flight nav/data app) added SafeSky integration, which uses the same sort of data as FlightRadar24. It can show planes right on your navigation map and can give audio proximity warnings for when you are not visually focused on your screen. It probably hasn't saved my life yet but it has certainly saved me some jarring and distracting feelings from suddenly spotting a nearby plane that "came out of nowhere," and it has made me more aware of how much traffic is really around at different times and areas. In turn that has got me on the airband radio a little more and I am way more comfortable communicating with random planes now. It also shows other PPG pilots in your group, and can show some additional (as compared to FlightRadar24) aircraft that are using a SafeSky-enabled app or FLARM but don't have ADSB out. Thanks for making these videos. I like the direct technique tips, but especially the perspective-changing ways of thinking about things. Keep it coming! Hope to visit in person someday.

Your message has me thinking, turning 50 this year also and believe I can do anything as I look at my left swollen knee and I don't know why! Hope I can do this for a long time as it's one of the best things I've ever done. Thanks for this video!

I got into pretty large XC for a while. Loading up on 5 gallons of gas, moster, 315 lbs all up. I now have a knee that hurts all the time. I worr out cartilage, no big accidents, but running and walking at 315 with the awkward weight is rough on legs even if you do strength training and the weight doesn't bother you.
@jimsutton8874 Жыл бұрын
Three great points. I have no more knee cartilage to donate at my beautiful coastal site that has become more popular this year especially with visiting pilots.

Really good stuff, Chris! A lot of this has been on my mind so thank you for sharing. I’ve been worried about planes as well and just got a radio to hear and communicate with traffic if needed.

This is such a great video, many of the things you’ve talked about here have been weighing on me heavily over the past few months, and has me very concerned over the future of our sport. Thanks for taking the time to create this! Gonna share this around

I can see the future of our hobby/sport be slowly regulated more and more as sites disappear. Locally I can just look at Gaggle and see half a dozen pilots buzzing around the local private airport, sometimes for hours on end. I've even had a relative reach out that lives nearby and ask if I knew who was flying right above the tree tops. Won't be long with that type of flying until any ultralight is told they aren't welcome to fly there anymore. I see people trespassing private property or not asking permission to fly places. Even with permission I felt like I was encroaching so I bought my own property that I can fly from.

Don't skimp on strobe lights, you get what you pay for. I laughed at the Skyflar price, however my buddy has one and I'm constantly reminded it's worth the price because of how easy he is to spot.

Careful pilots, there are hardcore tough farmers out there who care about their cows feelings if you enter their airspace. I'm not saying buzzing the animals, I mean your just cruising through their cows airspace.

I've heard vastly different opinions on if an Atom 80 is enough for a 190lb pilot (body weight, not all up). What does this comment section think?
@SuperFlyParaglidingSchool Жыл бұрын
It might depend on where you live ( altitude and wind ) - having said that, it will totally work. Lots of us have flown the Atom 80 tandem. The real difference is if you want to make a several thousand foot climb on a timeline. The guys flying Moster will make it without going full throttle the whole time. If you are on an Atom 80, it will happen, but it will take longer ( you will be full throttle the whole time but its ok, the Atom can handle it ). Holler with any questions.
