Prabowo Subianto - #2: Military Career
Prabowo Subianto is known as a brilliant figure in his military career.
After graduating from the Indonesian Armed Forces Academy in 1974, Prabowo joined Kopassandha, the Army's elite force that later became the forerunner of Kopassus. His early journey began as a platoon commander in Group I/Para Komando, which was involved in operational missions in East Timor.
In 1983, with the rank of Captain, Prabowo served as Deputy Commander in the Antiterror Unit of Detachment 81 of Kopassandha.
In 1994, Prabowo was trusted to serve as Deputy Commander of Kopassus with the rank of Colonel. Shortly after, he was promoted to Kopassus Commander with the rank of Brigadier General in 1995.
In 1996, Prabowo was appointed Commanding General (Danjen) of Kopassus.
In March 1998, Prabowo was again promoted to Commander of the Army Strategic Reserve Command (Pangkostrad).
In 1998 Prabowo finally took early retirement from the institution and chose to leave Jakarta.
