I always have a seat belt on when on commercial or construction sites. You can be fined for not having it on. On residential sites I only have the seat belt on in the loader or skid steer. If I feel comfortable without a seat belt in the excavator i won’t have it on. Great video Bryan👍🤙

I knew the seatbelt portion of this would be controversial which is why I made sure to put it in 😂 safety here in the states is pretty lax on most job sites when it comes to seat belts

@@DieselandIron 😂 You really don’t see to many safety inspectors anymore. Used to see them on all sites. I haven’t seen one on site since 2016. Guess here in Canada we are getting pretty lax when it comes to safety 😂 👍👍

Great tips! Around here overhead wires, especially in the city, seem to be the hazard. Homeowners don't realize how tall a concrete or dump truck is and most of their electrical service lines are only 12-15 feet high. Sometimes the drivers themselves are used to working in wide open spaces and don't think about those overhead clearance issues.

On one of our big road jobs I almost watched a semi take down a low voltage wire running across a 6 lane highway. Just about everyone in the vicinity was jumping off their machines screaming at the driver. Good times...

As you know Bryan I record all kinds of machines at different kinds of sites. Sometimes I will be at a site recording for 30-60 minutes and am always surprised that if I talk to the operator later on they had not idea was even recording them. They are often focused on their work that they don't see me. I totally understand and leave a lot of space between me and them. These are good tips that even apply to me in a small way and I'm not even an operator 👍🏻

These machines require a tremendous amount of concentration and it is very easy to get tunnel vision. Especially when you have taken for granted that no one is around you. Often times I will get into a zone and be oblivious of what's going on around me. At the same time it is very easy as someone in the industry to take for granted that you know what is going on at any given moment. That's where a lot of operators and laborers get themselves into trouble. Never take anything for granted on the job site. Thanks for commenting Alan!

@@DieselandIron I can tell, I always try to make sure I am a good distance from the operators or let them know where I am going to be and stay in that one location. I can definately see how dangerous it would be on these busy sites and how risky it can be if you aren't paying attention. Unfortunate what happened to the guys in the pickup, tough for the people they left behind.

@@ConstructionMachineryChannel and that's really unfortunate that the operator has to deal with that for the rest of his life. It's something that he will blame himself for for the rest of his life even though it wasn't really his fault. Accidents on the job are really sad all the way around

I would have to agree with just about everything you said. I have personally been involved or witnessed all those scenario you spoke about good and bad. I think a big part is making sure everyone one on the site is educated of all the possible risk involved. Then receiving proper training with OSHA and NUCA standards along with first aid. Great video 👍

Nicely done, good video for anyone planning to be around big equipment. I've got a family member that was a safety consultant and worked in workers comp. Just about any situation he has a story about someone that got injured in that particular act. Long story short, don't be an idiot! That being said, obvious isn't obvious to everyone.

Good points for Pro's and Non Pro's too. I found myself wanting to add pictures and visual examples throughout your commentary. What great opportunities for future videos. Otherwise, you could simply have a white screen and delete the mundane music and us 'listeners' could truly do that - listen. Thanks

When you were working for a company did they make you take a first aid and cpr class incase there is an emergency and someone is seriously injured? Also have you ever experienced an emergency on the job site before where you had to give someone first aid or cpr?

I was not required to take any sort of CPR Course. I have only been involved directly in one job site accident and I was not required to administer CPR
