This is the first of a new selection of videos where we will look at the ART (Association of Ringing Teachers) Learning the Ropes scheme which contains 5 initial levels and how we can use a Simulator / Dumbbell to assist with the practice for each of these.
Level 1 is the very start of learning to handle a bell and therefore the simulator in this case, is there to provide noise feedback for a new learner as they go through learning the basics of taking a rope for the first time.
- IMPORTANT -
We stress that there is ALWAYS a significant difference between a dumbbell and a Tower Bell and this should always be taken into account when teaching on a dumbbell and special care should be taken with a learner who is confident on the Dumbbell when first going to a tower to ensure that the transition is both safe and uneventful as far as the steeple keeper is concerned!
The ART Website is a great resource for anyone who is starting to ring or who is teaching others - ringingteachers...
For those using Learning the Ropes (LtR) the ART SmART Ringer resources are extremely useful and informative - smartringer.org/

The Dumbbell used was built during 2020 in the Covid-19 Lockdown, in this video we are using Virtual Belfry ( belfryware.com ) on a Fujitsu Laptop connected via SIMBELL (www.simbell.co.uk) Wireless Hardware.
