That is one of the most efficient machine shops I've personally seen. I used to be a traveling machinist. Shops like this are at the top of the industry for a reason. Family owned and ran right, changed with the times. 10 years in the trade now (I know... not as long as some of you) and unfortunately the pay for machinists is really falling behind the other trades. Makes me with I would have picked a different trade but hey is it what it is.

We had (3) DMG MORI 5axis machines that were nothing but trouble. Two of them had an electrical problem straight from the factory that they refused to fix until we threatened them with legal action and they finally just took one of them back with a refund, and it took almost 6 months of back and forth for them to finally fix the second. The third machine worked beautifully (and eventually the second) but they have a ridiculous maintaince schedule, if MORI didn't service it didn't count. They had to enter a code to register the maintaince and bypass the notification. If you went past the countdown on the maintaince the machine locked out and you couldn't use it until a technician came out. It went off machine runtime so it wasn't like you could just schedule someone to come out every 6 months, you pretty much had to schedule them when the maintaince notification came up. It was a nightmare, we finally got rid of it and our boss practically threw the sales rep out the front door when they came around last.

What is the software that tracks all the tools for each job etc?

It is our own custom-written software. We couldn't find anything like it in the marketplace, so we developed it ourselves over the last 15+ years.
