Line and Color Quick Start Guide: www.thedrawing...
In this video I do a real time demonstration drawing some fantasy characters.
This is a 1.5 hour demo so pretty long but I go over my process for how to use the concepts of Loomis Mannequins to pose and plan out character drawings and then build muscle on top.
This is a demo where I focus on how I would do this... it's a bit more messy and unstructured compared to the drawing lessons elsewhere on this channel. If you want to learn about the techniques I am using based on the Loomis Method you can check out these videos:
Building The Figure - • Learning To Draw The F...
Posing The Figure - • Learning to Pose Your ...
Different Body Types - • Learning to Draw Diffe...
With most types of stylised types of art - There is often a mix of structure and perspective and technical drawing.... combined with symbols and abstract features.
Once you get good at blocking in proportion and posing with the Loomis Method you can use it to suit your own style.
It's just a tool you can use to help you draw cool stuff!
Happy Drawing!

Let me know if this format of demo is useful! If you would like to see longer or shorter demonstrations let me know here. (Or perhaps simpler demos to follow along with?)

I would like to see your opinion about drawing comic digitally vs traditionally. Have you suffered lack of sensitivity in digital drawing (I feel like in traditional is more sensational contact with process).

I really liked this video! I like how it feels like a nice draw along where you're still talking about concepts that are important. It's a good video for me for warming up with my own sketches (which is what I did here) IMO.

No cuts, no time compression. Just what I like in a video. Thanks! The length demanded some commitment though and couldn't watch everything in one sitting, so ended up not following along with the subject completely. Probably gonna have to redo this one to get it right!

One small tip I would give for these types of videos Don’t start drawing at 15:44 or more in a 2 hour video 16 minutes of talking, while yes useful ( you talk about important things here ) can slowly become a drag if you go on for too long I would at most 5 minutes for prologue talking and then directly into drawing The drawing parts, explain what you are doing while you do them not after Anyways this a just nitpicking from a person with a short attention span, just if you find any of what I said reasonable then please use it

Man, you are on fire! Thank you so much for these longer instruction videos! I hope you can do somethin similar for the other fundamentals too, besides anatomy/figure drawing, but I understand it takes a lot of time an it takes you from other endeavors. Thank you so much, this has been so helpfull! Maybe this could add value to The Line and Color Artisan by having all the fundamentals there, too.

Best advice in this video. Day in day out all day EVERY day! That is the only "short cut." That is the "how do you." That mileage and repetition gives you more understanding then any video or book. Although this is a great video. Thank you for the demonstration!

It sounds good but its not really true. Ive watched several people at this point stuck drawing the same way for over 3 years and make no progress. A lot of artists find a way of sinking themselves into a rut where they repeat doing the same thing forever.

@@americancheese7383 What's not true? Just because they didn't know how to practice doesn't make it not true. I didn't say if you are just drawing a line every day, day in and day out you are going to get any better. However if they actually learn what to practice and do it every day, day in and day out they will get better. BEST advice simply is draw and draw often. I didn't say its the ONLY advice. So your comment. Not true at all. As matter of fact its doubtful these "several people at this point" are even real......

@@ducksoff7236 I like the new version of your advice (draw often) better. Drawing non-stop every day is the direct path to burn-out.

Challenging lesson! I admit my page turned into several figures without forearms and some random inspired doodles. Hoping to find a compromise between this kind of structural process and keeping a degree of looseness, too.
@TheDrawingCodex

Haha that sounds fine to me! I'm glad you found this useful by following along and trying some of the ideas out! It be a huge challenge to get the mix of looseness and structure to balance each other out. Often there are periods of focus on structure that make you stiff in comparison to earlier work... so you need to go back to loosening up and focusing on the flow of the line etc. It's a constant back and forth :)

hello Tim - curiosity on my side - why not use-colored pencils to help indicate different elements? zillion of 1 color line, namely pencil - gets somewhat confusing.
