Love your videos on both channels, dude! Quick thing I noticed; I think a large part of your problem (which seems confirmed by your comment about it being easier to swing your arm straighter when you were less buff) boils to two things: tight pectoral muscles and your swing and throw relying heavily on trunk rotation. I asked my wife to watch some of this video and tell me what she thought and, while she knows very little about bowling, she has been a Physical Therapist Assistant for over 14 years and has a great understanding of body mechanics. She basically confirmed my suspicions. She suggested that, if you're going to continue to rely on so much trunk rotation for your power, torque, and speed, that you spend time on resistive exercises such as high-to-low diagonal cross-body axe chops, horizontal twists, etc. with resistance bands or weighted pully systems to strengthed those core, pectoral, and shoulder muscles, as well as protecting the back. Additonally, she strongly recommends stretches for your pectorals and shoulders since they definitely seem tight. She said that's very common on people with strong chests and shoulders, and that to get around the limitations those large muscles cause, a lot of people wing their arms out sideways or twist their cores. Try those adjustments, man, and keep practicing what you're learning for Forrest and you'll be well on your road to wearing a version of your "unprofessional bowler" shirt with the "un" crossed out yo attend your first match as a PBA pro! 😎

@@220vlogs No problem! I definitely understand the lack of will/desire for certain routines. When I struggle with that, I try to think of it as a "must do"; don't give yourself the option. You're clearly already dedicated to bowling and dedicated to working out. Think of it as another small thing that you just need to do, like brushing your teeth or eating. Start with a few extra minutes stretching at the gym or a few minutes before bed or something. Then slowly add time or more times a day or more days a week or whatever works best. You got this! I wanna be one of the first to buy that "unprofessional bowler" with the "un" crossed out shirt when you're battling Packy at your first pro competition 🤣💪

This is actually better than your other "viral" videos that you make. The short backswing drill is indeed a very good drill. It's very nice of Forrest to work with you and I'm glad you're finally fed up with getting last place and hope you're ready to say screw all the fun videos and bowl seriously. Speaking of which, I saw a guy on EXPN channel today who had absolutely no backswing at all LOL! Very interesting release, and he still throws the ball a good 15 MPH on the scoreboard (though he's one big strong dude).

Bob Learn Jr. was the one to teach me free swinging when he moved to DFW to work at the USBC Center. I'm not an expert, but you have a problem I had which was a low set up and barely any push away. That made me grab the ball and pull it up because I wasn't using any gravity to help. He adjusted my set up to hold the ball higher (ironic since he started so low himself) and literally he told me to just drop it into the swing. Over time I adjusted to having a push away that was straight ahead instead of this small circular downward motion and that really helped a lot. Good luck in improving your swing! I used to take 6 steps and he moved to me 4, that way my push away and my first step were in sync and it made better timing with my swing as it improved.

I don't know about you, but something I tried to keep me from "muscling" my swing was to hold the ball like you normally would in your set up, but have a buddy there to hold the entire weight of the ball instead and allow them to drop it at a random point in time without letting you know and without you looking/focusing on the ball. Also tried it from the top of my backswing as well to "feel" the how the swing should be when it is just free flowing. (Not sure it will necessarily help or work since you are quite a bit stronger than I am so it might be harder to feel.)

Hey 220. My sister was a pro bowler and I was always known in the alleys as “her sister”. I didn’t believe that I had what it took to be a great bowler. One day, I attended a bankers seminar and was on top of the world feeling confident and ready to take on the world. I bowled in league that same night and bowled a 300. My point.... When you believe you have what it takes to be great, greatness follows. You have to believe it before you see it. Just my thoughts... Hope it helps. God bless.

Interestingly I have been finding more and more correlation of the bowling swing to the golf swing (I actually know a little bit about golf, having trained and competed for nearly 30 years). If you watch people like EJ Tackett, Kevin McCune and other heavy hitters, or some of the 2-handed greats like Belmo or Kyle Troupe, you will notice they get all of their power from their legs and hips, just like in a golf swing. They finish with their hips only slightly open and during their down swing they are opening their hips and then nearly closing them towards the fowl line. Their right leg finishes far away from the fowl line (between 7 and 8 o'clock). If I were coaching you guys (and I probably shouldn't), I would recommend a drill where you keep your shoulders and hips square to the target at finish. Feel like you are pulling your shoulder and arm (and thus ball) forward with your right hip. This is something I started working on myself and have found that even someone like me, who isn't nearly as beefed up as Michael and Forrest are, can still whip the ball down there pretty easily without having to use much upper body strength. This allows me to keep my upper body more relaxed which makes the ball travel in a much straighter line during the down swing (relaxed arm and hand). Gravity and centrifugal force automatically keeps the ball path on a straight line (rotational pivoting at the shoulder). This also frees up my arm and hand muscles to concentrate more on release and shape, better controlling axis rotation and axis tilt. I have noticed that most of the very top players, even 2 handers, seem to do this sort of technique pretty well. I dunno, something to think about. Maybe I'm way wrong and that's why I suck at bowling .. LOL .. actually, after further analysis of your practice, Forrest is doing what I am talking about, pretty well. You can see that little move, almost a "twitch" in his hips at delivery. You can tell Forrest is using his legs and hips to deliver the power. That's why he looks so incredibly fluid. His upper body is very relaxed, allowing him to better control the manipulation of his hand and release without using effort to do it (controlled and precise).

@willjames6437 Жыл бұрын
When you get your swing high, you really open up your shoulders and even open up your body well before the release. This causes your arm to come through away from your body. When you do this, your left plant foot turns to the right way early instead of pointing to your target. It also causes you to come around the ball prematurely with your hand so you are losing speed and revs. I think that Forrest is right about focusing on using a lower and freer arm swing. A lower arm swing AND keeping your elbow in will help keep your arm swing on the right track and path to your target. You may need to turn your hand to the right to over exaggerate it to keep your fingers inside the ball and forearm facing your target instead of your forearm turned in and facing your body in the early parts of your swing. Doing this will naturally keep your elbow in so that your swing path is straight and in line by your body. The revs and ball speed will come when you relax, stay soft with your hand, and use foot speed. Just my observations… take them or leave them. You got this!

Switch to 4 steps. First step with right side foot. But still line up with like you normally do with left toes ahead of the right side. Doing so will eliminate the short pause where you are winding up, the whole approach...backswing...release will smooth out for ya.
@NickLeo777 Жыл бұрын
Everything is looking great One suggestion I have is continue to work on keeping your elbow inside and make sure your forearm is forward throughout your follow through so that way your hand will stay behind the ball at release point instead of coming around it too early Keep working hard brotha it's time to unlock your full potential

@leehaijian6743 Жыл бұрын
Im not a coach but i wanna try give some ideas, hope it helps😊 You got that Kris Prather swing, extremely cupped wrist with almost no elbow bend all the way, you can pretty much use Kris as reference Kris also have the ideal backswing height you are looking for too with the hands/elbow close to the torso The reason your elbow is not close to your body at swing down is because of the wrist shift(to the right) you make in the apex of your swing, you can imagine twisting your wrist outward at swing apex this shift cause you to pull the ball to the right at release in order to "throw" the ball to right while generating revs, the image you want would be to push the ball to the direction you want and releasing it foward, you will see the ball read the lanes better with a lower PAP as well .... again im not a coach, im just a self coach bowler bowling for 10 months who likes to watch slowmo bowling vids🙃 fun fact: you can watch a video frame by frame using the < > keys

I dont know if you will see my comment on your previous video or this one but I have another tip to try! I feel like you are focused on the ball more then your body. A high back swing is not a bad thing to have especially if its a habit so I would not worry about that. What I want to see is for you to really just focus on trying to keep your elbow as close to your body as possible the whole swing.

I've noticed in allot of your videos that you tend to drop your shoulder (almost like your bowling two handed), you also tend to get pretty low in your approach. I would recommend trying to stay upright more itll help keep your shoulder from dropping so much and straighten your back swing out. And keeping your back swing no higher then your waist it'll also help you from powering through towards your release.

Forrest keeps his hips much more closed and facing down lane, which is good (so I have been told). If Michael played from the right side of the lane more, he would probably foul with his right foot about 70% of the time. Even Forrest could keep his hips closed a little more, not allowing his right foot to get so far around him, instead of ending at 9 o'clock, ending at 8 o'clock or even closer to 7 o'clock. Michael is more like 11 o'clock.
